  1. a. They cannot, effectively, people need to hear by the Spirit, mostly they are trusting in themselves, not on the power of God. b. Our Ego - Afraid it won't happen. We are not believing what the Word says. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” (Mark 16:18c) We need to know who we are in Christ and that he has given us Authority. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. (Luke 10:19) c. You know them by their words and actions and being led by the Spirit of God. d. Get in the Word, Believe, pray in the Spirit, and look for the Spirit's leading and guiding. e. People need to know - This song comes to mind: Be bold, Be strong, for the Lord your God is with you. I am not afraid, I am not dismayed, because I'm walking in faith and victory, Come on and walk in faith and victory, For the Lord your God is with you.
  2. a. Paul was into multiplication. He did not evangelize but taught daily his students to be missionaries and to spread the truth of the Gospel over the province of Asia, thus multiplying his efforts. b. In teaching his disciples for two years, their going out in the power of the Spirit, all the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord, and they in turn spread the Gospel to all that would hear. c. It is vital to evangelize in large cities, because that is where the needs are and people may be more responsive to the Gospel. People need to know Jesus loves them and is not mad at them but calls them to the Himself who saves, delivers and heals.
  3. a. They both had different styles of preaching: Paul's preaching was not eloquent ln speech or wisdom but in the power and demonstration of the Spirit. Apollos was eloquent, a trained speaker in the Greek tradition, and spoke boldly. b. There were contentions among the people as to who they were following. For while one says, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos, I am of Cephas, I follow Christ. c. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men? 4 For when one says, 'I follow Paul,' and another, 'I follow Apollos,' are you not mere men? 5 What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe -- as the Lord has assigned to each his task. 6 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow." (1 Corinthians 3:3-6) d. Yes, each Pastor/Preacher is different but each one has something to offer to the Body of Christ. And I believe God has made it this way. He has given each one special gifts, as he has the five fold ministry. It is like a puzzle fitting all the pieces together - revelation, truth, the witness of the Spirit and agreement with the Word of God. e. Love your brother and sisters in Christ. If it witnesses to your Spirit as Truth and agrees with the Word of God - receive it.
  4. Q4. (1 Corinthians 15; 1 Thessalonians 4:14-17) How important was belief in a bodily resurrection to the gospel that Paul taught? Why is Christ's resurrection foundational to our faith? What will happen when we die? When Christ comes? a. & b. Very important - Jesus' resurrection is the foundational elements of the gospel, for If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins."1 Cor.16-17 Christ is the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. c. Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We will be asleep in Christ, our bodies decayed, our spirits with the Lord awaiting our immortal resurrected bodies. d. We will all be changed in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed." (1 Corinthians 15:51b-52
  5. a. Very important. House churches are the primary way the church manifested itself in the first century. It was a way to communicate the Gospel in a private setting, as at times they were not allowed to preach in the Synagogue. Economically, house churches make gathering the church feasible in nearly any situation. Together, the house churches across greater Corinth constituted the Church at Corinth. b. Advantages: low cost, and as the house-churches multiplied, everyone had a place to attend and they did not have to travel long distances, also it was a smaller setting where people would feel comfortable to ask questions and share. c. Weaknesses: Maybe needing to have people on the same page, as they all had different beliefs, maybe arguing, maybe teachers not totally knowledgeable and leading them astray.
  6. a. He was a tent maker and a hard worker at that. He wanted to set an example for the people to follow. He believed in providing for himself and his own family and to have something to share with the needy. Not to be idle and expect others to provide for him. For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. 2 Thess. 3:10 b. Because the Pastor of the church is better able to devote his full time for the preaching of the Word, teaching, ministering to the needs of the people, visiting the sick, etc. Also, If the Pastor has a family, he needs also to spend time and care for them bringing them up in the Lord. c. Paul taught them by his example that it takes hard work to support oneself and one's own family, and by helping the poor and weak in the community, not coveting money, and to preach God's Word free of charge brings God's blessings.
  7. a. & b. Yes, he is close to non-believers and continues to draw them by His lovingkindness. We are his offspring, made in the image of God. It is their response that when they hear the Gospel to believe and receive salvation. c & d. It is a religious spirit that makes us that way. We have to remember that we were once in the same place. We are not to be judgmental, because sometimes it takes a really bad situation to truly surrender to the Lord. We are not to look on the persons outward appearance, but knowing what they are going through and their need of a Savior. Knowing how much God really loves them, we are to love them too from the heart of Christ in us. d. Yes, faith in Jesus is necessary for salvation. Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12
  8. a. Jesus Christ dying on the cross in payment for my sin and the sin of the whole world. b. For when we accept what Jesus has done for us we can have eternal life and fellowship with him forever and not spend an eternity in hell. He has paid to price for our salvation, healing and deliverance. He loves us. He has given us peace with God, His righteousness and he has come to make His home in us. Our body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, we can walk and talk with Him. We have abundant life and so much more. He made us and knows what we need, and it was Him all the time! Praise Him! c. He has given us His Holy Spirit, who is now our helper and teacher. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 8:1-4
  9. a. The Jews are the ones who crucified Christ and they might be offended. Christ crucified was a stumbling block to the Jews. b. I haven't witnessed to a Jew, but most Christians who know of Christ's suffering, death and resurrection but it is not real and living to them if they have not surrendered to Christ. If we tell them of the love of Christ and that God is not mad at them but wants a relationship with them. After they surrender the Bible becomes open to them and the Holy Spirit will lead them in a life lived for Christ. The Holy Spirit is gentle and it is His work to teach and bring the Word to life for them. And revelations come step by step and God gives us grace to overcome difficulties. c. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Rom. 1:16
  10. a. We are commanded to Rejoice always, because it is our way out of the situation we find ourselves in. As we rejoice in the Lord it brings happiness and joy back into our lives. b. Our natural tendency is to grumble and complain. c. As we rejoice and give thanks and praise to the Lord in faith, believing, even though we don't feel like it, as we do, the breakthrough comes. Our focus is to be on the Lord and not on the problem. d. When I am under stress and overwhelmed by a situation but then the scripture comes to mind. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
  11. a. Paul wanted Timothy to join him on his journey, so In respect to the Jews in the area, who knew Timothy's father was a Greek, he had Timothy circumcised, so as not to offend the people they would minister to and hinder the Gospel from being preached. b. Paul did everything he had to do to bring others to Christ. To a Jew, a Jew under the law; to a slave, a slave; to a Gentile, apart from the law. He had become all things to all people. In all humility, ruled by the Law of Christ. c. Jesus was our example and as He humbled Himself and became a servant of all , we too must in spending time in prayer and learning of Him become servants to win others to Christ. Matt. 20:26-28 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
  12. 1. At one time being Gentiles and Jews we were separate, we are now made one by the blood of Christ. He is our peace and has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of partition between us; And all believers in Christ are not two but one. We are the New Israel of God. 2. Jesus. The unity is in Christ himself 3. Jesus. The unity is in Christ himself. We are not to judge. Christ will judge, we must love. Jesus looks on the heart, we tend to look on the outward. We are one in Christ and we all have a part to add to one another.
  13. 1. Its nothing we have done to earn salvation, only God's Grace that saves and it is..... to whosoever Believes and calls upon the name of the Lord. 2. It would make us lazy in regard to Evangelism thinking that God controls everything. He has given us a free will and we choose. We can just pray for people to get saved, but what really works is being in partnership with Him and preach the Gospel. The Holy Spirit leads and guides us. We are to be in close fellowship with the Holy Spirit to hear from God. We preach the Gospel, people respond or don't respond. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” 14How then can they call on the One in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe in the One of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach? 15And how can they preach unless they are sent? Rom. 10:13-15 3. Jesus Saves. But, now that we have His Holy Spirit, we are His hands and feet and he uses us to proclaim the message of the Gospel.
  14. 1. Grace is God's favor and love for us even though we don't deserve it. 2. Legalism and works are not compatible with grace because legalism is doing works to please God and earn your salvation while Grace is not deserved but God's favor, a gift of God. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 3. A big part in believing who God says he is and Faith, a gift of God, is believing and putting your trust in Christ as Savior and Lord.
  15. 1. The Judaizers demanded that the Gentiles in order to be saved must be circumcised and obey the law of Moses. 2. Salvation is believing you are saved by Christ alone, no circumcision, no law of Moses. Eph. 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 3. The dangers of excessive legalism is not depending on Christ's work on the cross, but depending on our own works and our own righteousness to save us. "It is finished"
  16. 1. We are to continue in the grace of God, in faith, and abiding in Christ. John 15:5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 2. We need to be rooted and grounded in the Word and in faith in order to continue. If we are not when persecution or tribulation comes we cannot stand and be strong. The Word nourishes our spirit the way food nourishes our body. 3. So they will not fall or backslide. They need a good foundation, relationship with Jesus Christ, knowledge of the word, water baptized and filled with the Spirit. Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; John 8:31
  17. 1. Paul finds common ground with both. 2. With the pagans, He doesn't talk about the cross, He presents to them that there is Living God and idols are worthless, God is Creator of all things, He is invisible, He has provided what we need and is merciful. In the synagogues he points to history of Israelites, and speaks of the Messiah and His coming out of the lineage of David and that the Messiah is Jesus whom they crucified and is raised from the dead. 3. Getting to know the person and find out what their background is and what they know about God and the Bible. You may feel comfortable if you are a senior, to minister to other seniors or people you own age. Most of all, know your Bible, know scripture, so that the Holy Spirit can bring a scripture or scriptures to your remembrance when you need them.
  18. 1. Paul, by the Holy Spirit sees through the false prophet, calling him a son of the devil and an enemy of all righteousness and by the power of the Spirit he is made blind and the proconsul then believed, seeing this, and being astonished at the teaching of the Lord. After speaking boldly in the Lord, and bearing witness to the word of His grace, signs and wonders were done by their hands. 2. & 3. Miracles help, but then again we need to continue in God's Grace and in His Word and in relationship with Him. He will confirm His Word and make it alive to us and make us strong in Him. My experience was a troubled marriage and I was ready and open for a miracle. A friend told me about her testimony and I believed and asked the Lord to come into my life. He did, and being a personal God, gave me exactly what I needed to keep on believing. 4. The signs and wonders I have seen with evangelism is a changed life. 2 Cor. 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 5. The reason we are not seeing more is that Christians are taken up with the things of the world. You can pray for someone to be saved, but what gets results in getting out and witnessing for the Lord and telling others about the "Good News".
  19. 1. Paul states scriptures from the Old Testament about how the Savior would come from the line of David. Both waiting for and needing Salvation! 2. Paul goes back in history and spoke to the men of Israel and to the God fearing Gentiles. The men of Israel were familiar with the history of the nation but went on to explain and reinforce to both all that happened from the time of Egypt to the coming of the Messiah and his death, burial and resurrection. 3. That Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, (I Cor. 15:3-4
  20. 1. Paul is compelled to preach and views it as a sacred trust. 2. & 3. Not much. He does it willingly and counts it as an honor entrusted to him. If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward; if not voluntarily, I am simply discharging the trust committed to me." (1 Corinthians 9:16-17) 4. That various spiritual gifts are given to all believers. Your special gift is entrusted to you. You must not neglect how God has shaped you and gifted you. Let us never forget that we are servants who are called to be obedient. 5. Unfaithfulness/Disobedience.
  21. 1. It is for worship, seeking the Lord, drawing closer and for hearing from Him. 2. They hear from the Lord through prophecy. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, 'Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.' 3 So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off." (Acts 13:1-3) 3. Because many Christians do not depend on the Holy Spirit, are not totally committed to the Lord and not led by the Spirit of God. The world has a strong pull on them. 4 & 5. It is so important the the church at large and to chosen missionaries to hear from God and be led by the Spirit. Our dependence has to be totally on the Lord. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. John 15:5
  22. 1. Paul calls our Peter publicly because he did eat and have fellowship with the Gentiles, but when certain Jews were there he separated himself from the Gentiles. 2. Because Peter was afraid of certain Jews who belonged to the circumcision group. And by that, other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas was led astray. 3. That you cannot mix the law with faith in what Jesus Christ has done. Knowing that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith alone in Jesus Christ. 4. It is important because the foundation of our salvation is based on Christ's work, not on the works of the law.
  23. 1. Many times some Christian feel they are not doing enough. Having their lives so cluttered they don't have time to spend time with the Lord. We need to shut off all the noise and listen to what the Lord has for us. God has a plan and a purpose for us - For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10 2. We need to be patient. God has a plan and he is working it in us. He know best. By trial and error, that is how we grow. For God is the One working in you both to will and to work according to His good pleasure. Philippian 2:13 3 . We need to be built up and rooted and grounded in the Lord, spending time with Him and listening for His voice, walking in the Spirit and not in the flesh before we can be in a leadership role. Leaders should be a good example. 4. When we listen for God's voice and obey things always turn out right.
  24. 1. Because Abraham believed God by faith and because of that the Lord counted it to him as righteousness. 2. The same way, trusting God by faith to save you. Believing He took your sin and the sin of the whole world on Him when he shed his blood and died in your place and paid in full for your sin. When we believe and receive His wonderful Salvation, He counts us as Righteous. All who receive Him are The Righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. 3. A full surrender to Christ of your whole life and believing trusting Him in every situation.
  25. 1. We can't know Christ when we are depending on ourselves and our own ways and being prideful in what we do. It is not what we do to earn the benefits of the Cross, but what Christ has already done. He already paid for our Salvation, Deliverance and Healing, we just need to believe it in our heart and receive it. We just need to spend time with Him, thanking and praising Him. When we trust in ourselves, Christ does not show up and we can't get to know Him and trust Him in every situation. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6) And this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. (Romans 3:22) For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. (Romans 1:17) 2. I have to know that its His grace that keeps me. Sure, I make mistakes but I shouldn't let that keep me from coming to the Lord. I repent and come into His presence, knowing that He loves me and that His Holy Spirit resides in me and that He will never leave me or forsake me. The devil will put the guilt trip on you to keep you away from the Lord. The blood of Jesus takes care of that and I can go into His presence and meditate on His Greatness, the wonder of His love and thank Him for all He has done for me.
