Yes, I have had the shock of this. I went on a missions trip to Haiti. I had never been outside of Canada or the US to a '3rd world country.' I saw things that I could not absorb. I did NOT understand the language of the country and was dependent upon the interpreter 'who was busy.' I was being 'abused./ attacked by a customs agent because I had filled the form in 'in pencil'. I did not have a pen. Then I saw things that I could not believe were still in existence. e.g. garbage, raw sewage in rhw =gutters, chickens/goats running loose, a hole in the ground for a toilet. I felt a sense of disbelief, consternation, until I came to terms with it. This is all that some people know. I had seen some things like this in Africa on television but did not relate to it. I finally came to terms with it and will do my best through the organization I went with to 'help make things better nd to uplift the people.' I had applied to 'go as a missionary there BUT the earthquake hit two months later.

What does Jesus teach here about the nature of the Kingdom of God? Do you think Nicodemus understands him? Why or why not? Jesus was teaching that the nature of the Kingdom of God is 'internal' no 'external. The Kingdom of God iss within us. I do not believe that Nicodemus understood what Jesus was saying. Conversely, just the fact that he 'came to Jesus' to have a discussion indicates that he was searching. It is evident later in the Gospel that he and Joseph of Arimathea 'prepared the body of Jesus for burial.' To me, that also indicates that Nicodemus came to believe in Jesus as the Son of God.

It isn't just that 'I don't have time for friends'. It is usually me that makes the first move. So, I am never sure if they are with me because they really want to be OR they didn't want to hurt me. Unfortunately, I am a bit of a 'loner' because I do not trust most people. I've been burned and perhaps have burned others. My own family shunted me out to a boarding home when I was four and AGAIN to a boarding school for three years. Not a fun time. If you cann't trust your family, who can you? I don't mean to be negative, but .... I am enjoything this study. It is much food for thought

I admire Nathanael. I believe that he was 'hungry' for God and His righteousness. Jesus met Nathanael 'where he was and Nathanael responded. How I long to see my nursing home residents do the same. I think that Philip was wise when he said 'Come and see.' Nathanael was 'open' to receive and when Jesus told him something that only he knew, he recognized Jesus as Son of God and followed Him.

I lovee God so much yet I am very aware of the many times I have failed in tought, word, and sometimes deeds. When I read this scripture it reminds me 'how far short I come of God's absolute holiness. Just like with my natural father, I become afraid of His displeasure. Yet I will 'admit my faults and failings and ask for help. Sometimes it is discouraging BUT I do remember that Jesus died for all of us so that we CAN have a relationship with Him. He never requires anything that we caznnot do as we seek His help, forgiveness, strength. While I know that I cannot 'undo the words I have uttered, nor the wrong thinking I go through, I KNOW that God will help and I WILL grow and mature. It is a 'process.'

I cannot picture eternity. Yet the concept inspires joy, FEAR, AWE of my God who did so much for me.

I saw a post d'd TODAY, yet when I hit 'reply' it comes to this page dated 2004 (six years ago.) I live in Ontario, Canada and am excited to start the Moses study which is the latest. Am involved in a 'ministry to Seniors' in two nursing homes and a senior's retirement residence. I am the 'chaplain' as of Feb. 6, 2011 and, while it is 'scary' I am excited.
