  1. Why does Paul need to remind Timothy about the prophecies spoken over him? Paul needs to remind Timothy about the prophecies because Timothy was very timid and needed encouragement. Paul probably did not want Timothy to lose sight of the main purpose of the "Good News". Paul wants to ensure that Timothy will always be a solider and fight for God! In practical terms, what does "fight the good fight" really mean? "Fight the good Fight" means to be and act godly, to assist in the spread of the word of god and not to turn your back on god. To be faithful to god and to stand up to what is right and not embarassed about god and admit to all that you are one of gods servants. Why does Paul tell Timothy to "hold on to faith and a good conscience"? Paul does not want Timothy to tuen his back on god, to keep going forward with the path of spreading the "Good News". Keeping a clear conscience will avoid Satan from coming in having Timothy sinning which would deter from Timothy in what god had set forth for him.
  2. Why does Paul comment on his own life after a paragraph on the law (1:8-11) I believe that Paul wanted to share his own life so that we could understand that change is possible, to turn away from sin and walk the good news. Why does he share this with Timothy and the church that will read the letter? Paul shares hos experiences with Timothy and the church in order to show us how god's grace will always be there for us and o forgive us for our sins. God will never forsake us. How might sharing this help get the church back on center? It is apparent that the church was not conducting godly. Paul wanted to church to understand that gods laws are not for the righteousness but for the needy and sinful.
  3. What were some of the results of false doctrine in the church at Ephesus? The results are that these people are not living the true word of god, godliness lives that the good book teaches us to do. It states that there are false teachers, usually that is the work of the devil to ensure that these people are arguing and divison of the church itself. How does doctrinal controversy hurt the spirit of a church? It hurts the spirit of the church becasue these people are receiving false teaching (inspired by the devil) and will not have faith and trust in god. This church will not have the correct teaching of the god and thus will turn away from god that results in living a sinful life (which the devil wants). How does it prevent growth? It prevents the groth of gods knoeledge and living a blessful life. It prevents growth in gods teachings and understanding of gods word. How does it keep the church from its mission? It will fill the people's head with useless tales and myths and it promotes useless questioning rather than promotes gods word and grace.
  4. Abraham was definitley blessed by the lord for his faithfulness which it seems that he was one of the few that "feared the lord". Abraham was blessed becasue he made a convent with the lord that Abraham shall become a great nation, Abraham would have a great famous name, that he would be a blessing to others, and a blessing to all of the people of the earth. I think that in certain ways of the people of the earth have been blessed, until they do not turn away from their sins. Eventually the lord will stop with the blessings when we refused to "fear the lord". Abraham is an inspiration of faithfulness especially in these hard times. I have been going through really rough times for the past two years and I did lose my faith in the lord. I think that if I keep my faith and "fear the lord" then my time will come with blessings from the lord but I need to be patient and not rush the lord's plans.
  5. I know that god has called me to do "something" big - I have spent years working two jobs and attending school so I can become an accountant (I have two classes left until I receive my Masters in Accounting).I know that right now my calling is to fully understand the bible, inside and out. I know eventually I will be called to use the bible to assist people. I dont know when and where or how but I know my god wants me to be a faithful follower just like Abraham was. I started reading the bible three years ago and I start it stop and etc. I told myself a couple weeks ago that I was going to follow though and learn the bible and understand it so I can accomplish my next task that god has in store for me. This is hard to find time to do this but I know in the end the rewards will be worth it. I also know that my life wills improve the more I grow closer to god.
