  1. I believe that all of them teach us that we are to be thinking of Jesus sacrifice when we partake. Jesus gave His body to be broken and His blood poured out in order that we could be forgiven and participate in fellowship with Him at the table.
  2. I believe that the meaning that has the most value to me at this point in my spiritual journey is "in remembrance of Me". I reflect on not only all that Christ has done for me but also on remembering what He expects of me as a follower. Am I remembering Christ and all of the lessons that he taught while he was here and am I doing my best to be Christ like? Am I remembering the sacrifice He made in order for me to have the opportunity to fellowship with Him? During the Lords Supper I remember the prayer that Christ taught us and I say that to myself slowly and deliberately making sure that I am doing my best to live up to the priciples and the values that are taught in that prayer. If I can say that prayer and not think of anything that I have not dealt with then I feel that my heart is right with God and am able to take my place at the table. If there are things that I have not dealt with or are not right in my heart then I do not partake until they are made right. Some one made a comment in this study that they would have to answer many questions if they did not partake in the Lords Supper......This is between you and God...No one else should even be paying attention to what you are doing....if we are paying attention to others then we are not focusing on our own heart and our own relationship with God in preparation for partaking. I believe that NO one should ever say anything to you about not partaking in the supper.
  3. I believe that the Lords Supper is the same as any other " religious ceremony" if we put too much emphesis on the how we forget the why. Jesus gave us a command to do this in remembrance of him...that is just where the balance lies in carrying out the command and not getting so caught up in the details. If it were really important whether the bread and wine were figurative or literal, or how often we should observe the Lords Supper, or whether we all drink out of the same cup or seperate cups etc. etc. then the Bible would have made it perfectly clear. Sometimes we can stumble by trying too hard to be "perfect Christians" which we know we can not be. So we just have to do the best we can with the heart and knowledge that God has given us and His grace covers the rest. Praise God that He sent His Son to bail us out as we can really make a mess of anything if left to our own devises!
  4. My belief is that Jesus was being figurative but I am not sure that one belief or the other would make you feel closer to Jesus when partaking of the Lord's Supper. I believe that it is the condition of your heart that makes you feel closer to Jesus at any time. Whether taken literally or figuratively Christ suffered the same amount of pain on the cross for me. It was still my sin that caused him so much pain and suffering and I am still not worthy. The same profound sense of awe and thankfulness at what Jesus sacrificed for me would take over no matter whether I believed that the bread and wine were really the body of my Saviour or not. It was still his body that was beaten and nailed to that cross and his blood that was shed for me. That is where my heart should be when I partake of the literal or figurative elements. Thank you Jesus!
  5. Hello everyone! I am really excited to be a part of this study. Isn't it amazing how much there is to learn about our Lord, We are always discovering new and exciting things. God speaks to us in many different ways and I believe that studies like this is one of those ways. I am from a small town in Kansas...no Toto is not here but I do have a grandma named Dorothy! I have called myself a Christian for 30 years but until recently (in the past 4 years) I really didn't know what that meant as I thought I knew all the right Bible answers but didn't really know about having a relationship with God. Now I know better and thirst for all of the knowledge I can get my hands on.
