I believe it makes you take greater look at your position in the church, and makes you more aware of what is expected not only in our 'public' lives but also our 'private, relationship to God' lives.
as a christian we were redeemed, one of the best examples I like to use is Gomer and Hosea, we were nothing before redemption, just as Gomer, but through grace and redemption Christ has lifted us up to sit with him.
