  1. Jesus could have called upon the heavenly host and been delivered from the suffering and crucifixion that He was soon to endure; but because He loves us, He chose to stand fast and deliver the sinners of the world instead through His own death and resurrection. Had He actually called on the angels to deliver Him, the transaction would have been forfeit and humanity would have been left without our Saviour. Jesus conciously chose to refrain from calling the heavenly host so that we could be delivered from sin and spend eternity with Him. When Jesus DOES in fact call the heavenly hosts, multitudes of angels immediately report to do His bidding.
  2. Elisha's servant was afraid because he thought that he and Elisha were severely outnumbered by the enemy. In short, the servant lacked faith. But Elisha prayed to God that his servant's eyes would be opened...that he would be able to see the armies of the Lord all around them. Faith is all that it takes for our eyes to be opened. If we have faith, we know that the Lord is behind us, that the Lord never leaves us on our own, and that the Lord gives us strength. The Spirit of the Lord dwells within us and is far more powerful than the spirit (Satan and his allies) that rules in the world.
  3. The Commander stated that He was on neither side because the war is His and that we are to be on HIS side in all things. Joshua was amazed and reverent; he fell prostrate and asked what God wanted him, His servant, to do. After the encounter, Joshua was surefooted and confident in battle because he knew the Lord was with him.
  4. God is the most Splendorous, Honorable, Dignified, and Majestic of all. God is a great light and we should revere God and tremble before Him. The verse in Corinthians reminds us that God is transforming us and that His glory shines on us and through us as He transforms us to His likeness.
  5. God is elavated above everyone and everything in the universe...nothing is above Him. He is the Final Authority. He inhabits eternity means that He is forever. He always was and always will be...His name is holy and should be reverred as such. God sees all in all things, therefore I must always conduct myself in a manner that is honorable to Him, not only because He sees it, but because I love Him and want to please Him.
  6. I think that worshipping God Most High means humbling myself before Him. I think that too often we forget to tremble...the Lord is Mighty and Exalted. He has given GREAT gifts and is worthy of all of our worship. No other god deserves our worship...indeed, there are no others. God, 'El 'Elyon, the Most High God is the ONLY true and living God and all others are false. At one point, someone had asked me if there were other gods out there, and if so, is it ok to recognize them as long as they are not worshipped. The answer, of course, is NO there are no others but God Most High, and He and He alone is worthy of recognition, worship, thanks, and praise. The verses included in this lesson clearly show that God is the only god and that all others are false.
  7. Both Abraham and Melchizedek understood that others around them worshipped other gods; however they both believed that 'El 'Elyon was THE God--the ONLY God--and the Most High God, worthy of exaltation. God is the Creater and Posessor of all of heaven and Earth; EVERYTHING in Heaven and Earth is both the creation of God as well as the possession of God.
