  1. Jesus is worthy because he conquered (death) - vs 5:5 and Jesus is worthy because he was "slaughtered and by his blood he ransomed for God" vs 5:9-10.
  2. seated on a throne white robes, golden crowns give glory and honor and thanks worship the one who lives forever and ever prayers of the saints reign on earth worthy is the Lamb to receive...honor and glory and blessing Amen fell down and worshiped
  3. Holy, holy, holy; Lord God Almighty (I can sing it in my head, but I don't know if this is the name of the song) Thou Art Worthy Worthy is the Lamb
  4. To ascribe to God attributes of glory and strength means to give Him or credit Him with all glory and strength. If we don't, we deny God the worship that is appropriate to who He is.
  5. Praise is difficult in trying circumstances because we focus on the situation instead of on God. When we focus on God through praise, we put our priorities into perspective and bring ourselves closer to Him.
  6. The churches are criticized for abandoning love, being a part of Santan's synagogue, living where Satan's throne is, tolerating Jezebel, being neither hot nor cold (straddling the fence) They are praised for patient endurance, humility, not denying their faith, holding fast, love, faith, service, not denying His name. If we are to keep our name in the book of life and receive the reward of the crown of life, we must repent, be faithful, remember Jesus' teachings and obey them.
  7. A congregation can lose it's first love for Jesus if pride comes into the picture (they do what they do to look better, not for their love of Jesus). Genuine love for Jesus is shown by following his teachings, especially what he terms the two most important commandments - love God and love thy neighbor. The lack of loves shows up when anything else becomes more important than Jesus and can be regained by putting Jesus first in all things.
  8. "Into your hands I commit my spirit" brings peace by committing ourselves to God and letting him have control of our life. "My times are in your hands" brings peace to the troubled soul by acceptance of situations (for whatever reason we are experiencing them) and knowing that God is in control.
  9. According to Psalm 23, how does the Lord our Shepherd quiet his sheep and give them confidence? How many ways can you find in this psalm? green pastures still waters he guides me no fear comfort with protection and guidance (rod and staff) abundance goodness and mercy dwelling in the house of the Lord forever
  10. David quiets his inner person with humility and with letting go, letting God take control.
  11. It teaches us that he will protect us by sending angels and that we have the authority to vanquish our enemies. The promises are rescue, protection, response, support, deliverance, honor, long life, and salvation.
  12. A rock that is higher than I - a place of refuge and safety. A strong tower - also refuge and safety. In His tent - a place of peace In the shelter of His wings - a place of protection. It makes me feel like there is always a place to go for safety, refuge, peace and protection.
  13. One of God's blessings is hope. He lets us know that there is always hope, in any situation. When things are at their worst, we must rely on hope and we must praise God for the blessings he has given us.
  14. He could dare to ask because God is a loving god full of grace and mercy. He endows these on us when we repent of our sins, when we are truly sorry and long to be back in His good graces.
  15. We (everything that has breath) should praise with joy and singing and music and dancing.
  16. The topics of right living that are covered include walking blamelessly, doing right, and speaking the truth. As teachings for our children, these are very basic, easy to understand guidelines that can be expanded on with examples for them.
  17. We need to be reminded of this because it so often seems like the wicked are succeeding. verse 6 stands out to me: "For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish." (1:6) because it is another reminder that helps me see through the negative things around us.
  18. It is in the recognition of His love that draws us to Him, creates a desire within us to be close to Him, and as we grow closer to Him, gives us the capacity to return that love by being the person he means us to be. It makes me want to be a better person, one he is pleased with, in what I do, say, think, and feel in my heart and soul.
  19. He is feeling lost and deserted. He feels that God is not with him. He combats this with reminders to himself to put his hope in God and by praising God and asking Him for his light, truth, and guidance.
  20. To dwell in the house of the Lord - to be close to God. To seek His face - to see Him, become close to Him, build a relationship with Him. David builds hope when he says that he will "see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living", or in this lifetime.
  21. The wonder of the creation of him as a human being puts him in awe of what God has done and does. In vs 23-24 he asks God to search his heart and when he finds faults, to cleanse him and lead him back to God's path.
  22. It is how God communicates with us....silently through his creations and also through his Word. In God's Word he sees perfection, trust, joy, wisdom, revival, radiance, light, pureness, endurance, sureness, and righteousness. In verse 14 David is asking God to be his strength so that what is in his heart and what comes out of his mouth are both pleasing to God.
  23. The psalm teaches us of God's majesty, the weakness of man, and the greatness of Christ in lowering himself to our level in order to save us. Our responsibility is to serve God by being responsible for his creation.
  24. The bais of Paul's contentment is Jesus Christ. To achieve this, our focus must also be on Jesus.
  25. A "prosperity doctrine" can threaten Christian ministry because it implies that if you are a good Christian, you will prosper. This appeals to our concept of the law of reciprocity (you give me something and I feel obligated to reciprocate) - I'll be good if you give prosper me. However it would then inply that all those who are in need are not good Christians and we know that isn't true. The Bible teaches much about poverty and riches (that's a very open question)...but in relation to this passage, it tells us to be content with whatever our situation.
