  1. Q.2 Which of the following is David's chief motive for marrying Michal, (1)pride in his military prowess, (2) obedience to Saul's desires, (3) love or desire for Michal or (4) enjoyment in killing Philistines. By reading the script it sounds more like David was pro-gaining the hand in marriage of Michal and would do whatever was requested of him to have her by his side. But then again there could be some pride in him when going in to battle. Not that he enjoyed killing but to prove that he was capable of a accomplishing what was asked of him and more.
  2. Q1. (a) Why does Saul send David into battle? Saul being afraid yet jealous at the same time needed David out of his way. Acknowledging the popularity of David and his strength, Saul thought it would be wise to send David out to battle. Not so much to have one more achivement or sucess under Davids belt but just to find relief from him. (b)What is the result of Sauls decision? To have David gain victory once more. ©What is Davids success attributed to based on the narrator? Because the Lord was with him.
  3. David knew the strength and power of his God. He knew that trusting in him would bring deliverance from all challenges. And Goliath was not only a challenge but also an obstacle in Gods work. The men of Saul's kingdom where able to face lions and bears like David but the only difference between them both is that David relied on God for strength. The men as well as Saul viewed Goliath as something different than a lion or a bear. And with this view they brought on fear. When we begin to analize the situation and ponder on all that surrounds the battle field we bring on fear which blocks us from seeing God's grace around us. We forget that God has already sent his Spirit in front of us to fight the battle. Saul made this mistake of forgetting the power and the strength God provides and allowed his flesh to get the best of him. David had all the strength and confidence provided by God to receive victory at war. Once Saul saw the determination David had to win the battle he was in some way reminded by the words David spoke of the God that he once served. And at that point realized David could do God's will and in turn receive the full victory and freedom from that huge challenge that was once in front of them. Saul you can say had faith but not the strong faith that is completly rooted in God. The strong faith we all need to overcome our battles with our own Goliath. His faith would come by seeing David in action.
  4. david being Gods child is angerd by the words spoken from a foolish man. David knows the power of the mighty King of heavens and doesnt understand why no-one has responded to his accusations. Davids brother on the other hand is upset like any older brother tends to be when a younger sibling acts out. Only on this case David is not acting out but standing up for Gods children. the actions David takes in this chaper is one to follow. He not only shows us how to have courage in time of need but also to trust in our heavenly Father who will deliver us. Eliab's had much to learn from his younger brother even though he was older in age. Much to learn about faith and trust.
  5. Q2. How does this story teach us the importance of listening carefully to Gods voice? Listening to Gods voice is the most important part of our relationship with God. Its giving him the respect he deserves as our Father and leader. Aknowkledging the words spoken in to our lives is what allows us to be obedient to his commands and at the same time receive the blessings available for us. Yet so many of the times we are to busy with our day to day schedules that we don't sit still long enough to pay attention to what God has to say. I love how in the lesson it states that "He takes us one step at a time-probably so we don't run on ahead of him and improvise on our own!" Which is exactly what we do...we always run ahead of him and sometimes don't even look back to see where we left off. Like little children we wonder off and then when we hit a wall we ask ourselves why God hasn't said anything? The thing is he was talking to us the entire time yet we wouldn't stop to listen. God's intention is to always get our attention even before we run in to the wall of conflicts. If we slow down a bit and stop assuming otherwise then perhaps we can actually listen to yet that small still voice that wispers to us and tells us that he is still in control. Making an appointment to visit with God on a daily will teach us to hear his voice. Yes we are his children and know exactly when he is speaking but to stop and actually listen thats where we have to make it a point to learn. Listen and learn.
  6. Q1. What is rebellion? Rebellion is takes place in our lives when we decide to take matters in to our own hands. Going against Gods will in a certain direction without the leading of the Holy Spirit. In what way is rebellion as bad as witchracft or occult practices? The Easy-to-Read Version describes this as refusing to obey, being stubborn and doing what we want. Not trusting God or not willing to wait on His timing can be a way of rebelling. We are basically telling God your timing is not as important as mine and I chose to do it may way. Many of the times I find myself being so inpatient. I tell God "if only you send me a sign" and when it doesn't come as fast as i want it to then I assume its ok to go on without his blessing. I can easily place myself in the shoes of Saul. I tell myself "let me just go ahead and assume that God is wanting me to do a certain thing so that I can move on with the next task." But in reality His Holy Spirit is saying the same thing that Samuel said to Saul. "what are you doing????" This is not what God wants from us. Being patient and waiting on his time is what he needs in order for his blessing to come. When we are rushing to move to the next step we dont see or realize that God is working to improve our blessing. To open the door of opportunity we need to wait, be still and listen to God almighty openning the door for us. Then we can walk through to the blessing and His promise land for our lives.
