  1. David's men are attracted to him because they saw a great leader in him and probably heard of his greatness in battle. They had in common, was tht Daul was after them as we'll. These men was probably family members The kind of men was of all kinds probably The difficulies David has in leading them was trying to teach them patient and wait on God. They probably all thought that they could bombard Saul and kill him but that was not what God wanted.
  2. The nature of the Convenant between David and Jonathan was not to harm one another. Jonathan and David received each other word.......unlike us today! They both benefit from this Convenant because of their friendship, trust and love they have for one another. No it is not self-serving because Jonathan could have easily told his father where David was and David being a great battle warrior could have taken Jonathan out. God's plans will be fulfilled and the plans maybe delayed because of our disobedience but nevertheless God will place people in our lives to help us such as Jonathan and David.
  3. It's sad to realize that for Saul, nothing is sacred -- that's the implication of Saul seeking to kill David in the very sanctuary of Israel's prophet Samuel. Saul's fear and need to control have pushed him to total rebellion against God, even though he realizes that God has anointed David to be king. The people prophesy when the Holy Spirit comes upon them because one God is all powerful and two they are no longer connected to their usual normal state. The relationship between this incident and the Day of Pentecost is we see and we don't understand but all things are not to be understood just believe.
  4. David's chief motive for marrying Michal is the love and/or desire they had for one another. Each time David was sent to battle, the Lord was always with him so David had no fear in what God could or would do. So to prove his sincere he brought 200 foreskin versus to 100 for the hand in marriage to Michal.
  5. Saul sends David to battle because he couldn't stand to be near him plus with hope he would be killed in battle. The result is David proves to be both a powerful warrior and a leader of men. The narrator attribute David success to The Lord.
  6. We often forget the battle is the Lord because often we trust in our own strength. Or, just as bad, feel powerless and defeated because we don't have any strength. The phrase, "The Battle is The Lord" means God will act on our behalf when we trust in him and are obedient to his voice. We can avoid the arrogance of pulling God into our battles rather than engaging in His battles by standing on the promises of God's Word
  7. We so often forget the battle is the Lord's because so often trust in our strength! This phrase means..... "God will act on our behalf when we trust in him and are obedient to his voice." We can avoid the arrogance of pulling God into our battles rather than engaging in His battles when we wait in hope for The Lord because he is our help and shield and because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
  8. David tells Saul of his experience in battle with Lions and bears shows his faith is in God not man. David is a lethal warrior because he knows exactly where is strength and help comes from. Saul allowed David to go out to battle with Goliath because one, he was so impressed by David and secondly, David had inspired faith in the Saul. Yes, Saul had faith and the source of it is David's faith in The power of God.
  9. David was so upset about Goliath's taunt because he was scaring the armies of the living God and the Philistine was using this giant to the Israelite's disadvantage. The giant was well over nine feet tall and no one in the Israelite army was barely over five feet. Eliab got upset with David because David made him realized his own lack of courage. This teaches us about our faith is that without God we can't do nothing but with ahold all things are possible. This teaches us about Eliab's character is he did not have a true relationship with God and he was jealous of David's courage.
  10. From Saul's perspective David was summoned to become a court musician and general equipment-bearer when he wasn't singing. From God's perspective the reasons he wanted David in the court so he could be exposed to the nuts and bolts of governing, to learn the art of leadership from the nation's leader. Our persistent sin and disobedience tends to prevent us from God in the midst of the circumstances we find ourselves in. When we have our hearts after God's heart makes us more teachable.
  11. The significance of Samuel anointing David is the spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward. The significance of the Holy Spirit coming upon David is when the Holy Spirit came upon him, it empowered him. This explains his success because all by the powerful Holy Spirit who had came upon him. The Holy Spirit upon us vital for our own success as disciples is the Holy Spirit lives inside the Christian and guides the actions of those who desire His presence. The Spirit empowers the believer to step outside his comfort zone to do extraordinary acts of faith for God. Being filled with the Spirit involves transforming our minds to the mind of Christas we engage in spiritual activities. Walking in the Spirit leads to a sense of peace and joy, as we partner with God in His glorious plans. Violating our conscience through acts of disobedience lead to a loss of filling by the Holy Spirit, which takes away our joy and peace. Although God will not take the Holy Spirit away from a disciple of Jesus Christ, the continual practice of sin and a lack of spiritual activities will lead to a life that is no different than the life of a non-believer.
  12. This story teach us the importance of listening carefully to God's voice because God takes us one step at a time so we don't run ahead of and improvise on our own. Our instinctive way of discerning is seeing the heart not the outward. God is teaching us to discern by not going by our natural instincts but be mature enought to listen to the Holy Spirit and hear God's voice. We learn to listen to the Spirit by listen to God's voice.
  13. Rebellion is doing what we decide to do rather than what God tell us. Rebellion, witchcraft and occult practices are all disobedience against God. Arrogance and rebellion goes hand in hand. We think we know better than God so we do it our way instead of His. When we find rebellion in our heart against God, we must pray, repent and ask for rebellion to be taking away and if we don't then it is damnation on us!
