  1. The reason why David is upset is because he sees Goliath challenging the people of Israel as if they were nothing.. Eliab was upset because he saw that David wasn't taking care of what he was suppose to. What this teaches us about David's faith is that David had a genuine relationship with God, David knew how God had brought Israel through the dessert and how God had deliver Israel from all his enemies, since this was to be taught or passed as reference from the father to the sons.. David clearly stated that when a lion or a bear came to take one of his sheep in the desert the Lord deliver them in his hands, he was seriously devoted to God..Eliab character seemed like someone that likes to run the younger siblings, as if his father had given him power in his household to do as he wishes... We can see that he isn't as humble as David.
  2. David is summoned to court, because of the good recommendation that were given to Saul of David, It was too good of an opportunity to turn down. When I was reading the book of 1Samuel I asked myself the same question, why will God want David close to Saul?... And the answer that popped in my head was, that since David was anointed as king he had to learn the fundamentals of being a king. David was not only the harp player, but Saul's student in duties of a king 101. I believe the worst obstacle that prevents us from learning from God is looking for advice in other sources where God has no part, and listening to our own "reasonable" statement on how we're going to resolve the issues. Many people just go ahead and resolve issues according to their secular knowledge instead of inquiring of God, and asking God Lord what do want me to learn while I go through this rough time?... Whatever it is Lord, let it be for your glory and honor! Although I don't understand what's going on I know that you're with me and that you will never leave me nor forsake me.. The only factor that can make us more teachable is experience, the experience that we have learned in our christian walk, what the scriptures have taught us, and of course the best teacher of all the Holy Spirit. What the Spirit has taught us, we can share with others that are going through similar circumstances.
  3. Samuel did not anoint David as act of his own will but as of God's will, by anointing David Samuel was declaring David as king of Israel. When the Holy Spirit comes upon David is confirming or sealing the anointing that had just taken place. David's success comes as a result of the empowerment of the Holy Spirit in his life, and also as a result of his relationship with God, by placing God first in His life he was able to obtain the victory. The Holy Spirit is protecting us, guiding us, as a result of not belonging to the enemy anymore but to God, the Holy Spirit lives within us.
  4. How does this story teach us the importance of listening carefully to God’s voice? It is very important to listen to God's voice (and make sure it is really God's voice), because when we listen to God's voice and we act as Samuel did we're bound to make ZERO mistakes. What is our instinctive way of discerning? through the Holy Spirit How is God teaching us to discern? As long as we walk the God way instead of my way, the Holy Spirit will give us the discernment when God is not pleased with what we're doing. How do we learn to listen to the Spirit? By walking in the Spirit. Hebrews 4:12 NKJ For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
  5. First thing I will do, is define rebellion, witchcraft and arrogance., Rebellion- opposition to one in authority or dominance (Merriam-Webster dictionary) Witchcraft- 1 a the use of sorcery or magic b : communication with the devil or with a familiar 2 : an irresistible influence or fascination Arrogance- : an attitude of superiority manifested in an overbearingmanner or in presumptuous claims or assumptions. - Rebellion is as bad as witchcraft in the sense that when we are being rebellious with God, we're telling Him (paraphrasing Saul's behavior) I like your Idea but I will do this my way instead of yours. So here we're depending on our own strength, self-sufficient attitude, the "I" is what matters. On the other hand witchcraft has to do with inquiring the enemy this is also a form of adultery (The book of Hosea has a story on this), so when we mix this two together we're telling God I don't care about your way, I care about my own way and my friends opinions, my back is turned to You on this decision.-Rebellion and arrogance go hand in hand, since one rebellion is opposing the authority and arrogance thinks I am superior then the authority. So God's advice is not needed since I don't care about what God has to say, and my Idea is better than God's idea..- When we find rebellion against God in our hearts, the first thing we must do as children of the Most High God is repent, we must confess our rebellion to God, cry out to God for forgiveness with a humble heart. And ask Him to change our ways to help us allow His divine guidance instead of ours no matter how much it hurts, in the process of molding us..- If we do nothing about our rebellion is going to turn into arrogance, and guess what?!!...... One will suffer the consequences of it.. Which to me is the worst thing that one can experience, I'd rather be cool with God then to be rebellious and arrogant and suffer the consequences.. God Bless and thanks for this Bible study.
