Both Abraham and Melchizedek found that beyond all else, the God El, as he revealed himself to them, was able to go beyond any human abilities, or the abilities of any other "gods." He was the creator, the maker of all that was. Everything that they could see was the direct handiwork of a God that was capable, far beyond any god that their ancestors had manufactured. The "gods" made and exhaulted by man had no power, no ability beyond what was given to them by their human makers. Therefore their intervention into mankind was limited only to what man could conceive or do. This God, as he revealed himself to Abraham was totally different. He was not given existence or power by humans, but rather the tables turned. This God, El Elyon, had power within himself to create and to intercede in the lives of mankind. Victory was assured with God's intervention. Far beyond logic, reason or human comprehension God was able to turn the events of man to favor those who recognized him as most high. Here was a God who truly was worthy of their worship.
