  1. Q 4A (matthew 5: 25,26) What is the point of Jesus' parable of settling out of court? To reconcile so that we may be forgiven. Don't wait to face God with unforgiven sin. Q 4B Who are we supposed to settle with according to this parable? We are to settle with the one we wronged. Ask forgiveness of that person and ask forgiveness from God. Q 4C What does "settling" entail? Doing what ever it takes to make things right. Q 4D What are the reasons that we should settle? To make our hearts right with God. To ask for forgiveness now, not to wait and have to stand before God with unforgiven sins.
  2. Q 5 (Matthew 5: 21-26) Verses 21-22 are about murder, anger, and insult. Verses 23-24 discuss some faults against one's brother. Verses 25-26 discuss settling a civil suit before going to court. What is the overarching theme of Jesus' teaching in our entire passage, verses 21-26? Love and Forgiveness.
  3. Q 4A (Matthew 5: 25,26) What is the point of Jesus' parable of settling out of court? To reconcile so we may be forgiven. To be able to get our heart right with God. Q 4B Who are we supposed to settle with according to this parable? We are to settle with the one we have wronged. Q 4C What does "settling" entail? Doing what ever it takes to make things right with man and with God. Q 4D What are the reason that we should settle? To make our heart right with God. to ask forgiveness now, not ot wait and have to stand before God with unforgiven sins.
  4. Q 3A (Matthew 5: 23,24) What's wrong worshipping while a brother has something against us (or us against a brother Mark 11:25? Part of worship is getting your heart right with God. If you have not done what you can to to make things right with your brother then you can not get your heart right with God. Q 3B What is the appropriate action for us to take? Pray, ask the Holy Spirit to guide us, then go and try to make things right. Q 3C How far should we go to bring about reconciliation with someone we have offended? As far as the Holy Spirit leads you to go. But you must allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you and through you. Q 3D Are there any situation that we shouldn't try to resolve? I am not sure , but I think we should always try. Q 3E Or that we can't resolve. Yes there are times when we can not resolve things with others. WE should always try and if we can not then turn it over to God. Some times if we just keep on trying we just make things worse.
  5. Q 2A Why does Jesus treat calling some one a fool in the same classification as muder? I really do not understand this one yet. This is some of what I found. Fool, Fool's, Fools found in the Bible some 115 times. Judgment: Is the judgment of God. Raca: A term of contemp. Council: Refers to the Sanhedrin. Fool: Intellectual stupidity, Spiritual blindness. hell fire: Everlasting fire. Then the Bible says that God, Jesus, and Paul called people fools. 1 Corinthians 4:10, 15:36, Matthew 23:17,19, Luke 11:40, 12:20, 24:25. I will keep praying about this one. Q 2B Does this mean that muder is no worse than an an angry insult in God's eyes? I think God sees sin as sin. All sin is bad in the eyes of God. Q 2C How would we act differently if we actually believed that angry attitudes towards others viewed by God as muder? The same as we act knowing a sin is a sin. We should have the fear of God in us about sin. Any sin.
  6. Q 1A (Matthew 5:17 - 20) Can you see any tendencies in the church today to effectively "abolish" the Old Testament from our Christian Faith? NO. Q 1B What does a "Christian" legalism look like in a church? I do not know. Q 1C What does it look like in a church where there are no moral standards and no obedience expected of Christians? I have never seen a church like that. If it was like that I don't think it would be a church.
  7. Q 2A What might be the symptoms of a Christian who has lost his "saltiness"? Lost of prayer life, Talking bad about others in the church. Loss of their smile and joy. Q 2B Is it possible for a believer to detect such symptoms in himself or herself? Yes, some will try to make an excuse for their action, but the Holy Spirit will Let them know. Q 2C What do secular people notice about a "de-saltified" Christian? They notice the same change that they noticed when the person became a Christian, but in reverse. Never forget Christians Are watched by the world. Q 2D What do other Christians notice about you? The true Christian will notice that the light of God has gone out in you. They will pray for you and try to help you return to God. Q 2E Is it possible to "re-saltify" your life? NO, we can not, But God can if we admit our sins, repent our sins, and ask God to forgive us. We should all praise God for His love and forgiveness.
  8. Q 1a In what sense are Christians the "salt of the earth" using the preservation analogy? If we are the salt of the earth, then we are to be use to preserve the word of God. Preserve the the church so it will continue on forever. 1b In what sence are Christians the "salt of the earth" using the seasoning analogy? If we are to be salt as a seasoning, then our speech an our action should be spiced with the love of God.
  9. Q 6a Why should we rejoice when we are persecuted? Because when we are persecuted for our faith in Jesus, we know we are working for Jesus, and that the Devil is mad. We know we are not alone. We are not the first and will not be the last to be persecuted for our love for God. But great is our reward in heaven. 6b What keeps this from being some kind of sick masochism, or pleasure in pain? Not sure about this question, but I think that is suffering by choice. So they suffer for the things of this world. We suffer for our choice in loving God and serving Jesus. 6c Why is the blessing "for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" appropriate for the persecuted? Because we are persecuted for our Love and Faith in the Father, the Son , and the Holy Spirit.
  10. Q 5a Why can people with a pure heart see, know, and discern God? Because if we ask, God is able to purge the corruption of our hearts and make them pure. Once this is done Jesus has promise in the Beatitude that we will be blessed with the ability to see, know, and discern God Himself. 5b Why can't "chronic sinners" see God? Because they do not know God. They are filled with the sin of this world. 5c How can we Obtain the pure or clean heart that Jesus describes? Receive Jesus as our Lord and Saver. Repent of our sins. ask God to clean our hearts.
  11. Q 4a How can an intense desire for righteousness put you at odds with the world? If you truely desire the righteousnes of God then the way you live , work, and play is just opposite of the world. So therefore the world does not understand you. 4b What sort of righteousnes is Jesus talking about, do you think? The kind of righteousness that only comes from God. Isa. 54:17 - Their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord. 4c What promise are we given in this Beatitude? His promise of giving us His Righteousness if we really desire it.
  12. Q 3a How does this sort of gentleness contrast with the worlds ideal. Christians see gentleness as strengh, Jesus was gentle but could not have went through all that He did if He was not strong. The world sees gentleness as weakness. 3b How is humility important to Christlikeness. Christ was humble. We are to strive to be like Christ, so it is important for us to be humble if we are to be like Christ.
  13. Q 2q Why is it necessary to be aware of your Spiritual poverty before you can become a Christian. We have to see that we live in sin and with out Christ we are lost forever. If we did not see we live in spiritual poverty we would not see a need to accept Christ. 2b What kind of mourning is necessary for a person to become a Christian. We mourn because we see the life we live in sin. We mourn because we realize we are spirituality dead. 2c What kind of mourning is a common experience of Christians. Mourn for others that are still Spirituality dead. Mourn for the sins of the world.
