  1. Q1. In Romans 8:14-21, 28, how many times is the idea of being sons and daughters of God alluded to? What are the promises made to these sons and daughters? What do we learn about our future and our role in the future of all creation? A1. I counted at least 7, hitch is the number of completion and maybe one more. A2. Inheritance, kinsmanship, firstfruits of the spirit, adoption, first born, redemption A3. 22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. 14 "Those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 "For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs -- heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory." (8:14-17) Dear friend, you are neither peon nor a nobody. You are a full son of God, a full daughter of God. All God possesses is yours. You are a child of the King of All.
  2. People get their defeatist attitude towards sin from this statement: You will be sinning until the day Jesus comes back. That statement right there defeated the Holy Spirit and made him powerless n your life. We have to begin to break these bad strongholds in our lives and put on the good strongholds of God through the word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit.
  3. Q6. (Romans 8:15-16) How does the Holy Spirit inspire us to pray "Abba, Father"? What is the significance of us referring to God as our Dad? What happens in our lives if we don't have some kind of personal assurance of our salvation? How do we receive this kind of personal assurance? A1. romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. It gives us assurance that we belong to God and have become joint-heirs with Christ Jesus, who saw it not robbery to be equal with God. Philippians 2 - 5Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. A2. That we have a very personal and endearing relationship with him. A3. We begin to doubt and stray away. A4. Through Faith. Hebrews 6: 9But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak. 10For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister. 11And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: 12That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. God's Promise is Certain: 13For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, 14Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee. 15And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. 16For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife. 17Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: 18That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: 19Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; 20Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. Hebrews 11:6. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. 2 Corinthians 5:7 - (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
  4. Q5. (Romans 8:13-14) What does it mean to "mortify" or "put to death" the deeds of the body by the Spirit? What would it look like to watch a person do this? What does it mean to be "led" by the Spirit? What does this look like in actual practice? How do "putting to death" and being "led" by the Spirit fit together? How much of this is the Spirit and how much is us? A1. To kill or crucify our flesh. To not feed it. Galatians 5:24 - And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. A2. If a person has an addiction eventually you would see them delivered from this addiction through he giving of themselves to Christ and letting the spirit lead. If a person was unforgiving, you would see them become a very forgiving person. A3-4. Romans 6 says you are no longer a slave to sin but a slave to righteousness. Jesus said whatever I hear my father speak, I tell you. So I would assume if you are being led by the Spirit, your talk will change, your attitude would change, there will be an evident change in a person. A5. I would assume if something dies meaning the flesh, something has to resurrect or take lead, which would be the Spirit. A6. It is all Spirit by the power of God because apart from the Spirit and within our natural selves we do not posses this power because the flesh is weak.
  5. Q4. (Romans 8:12) Do we have to sin? Are we compelled to sin? Is it possible to live for two hours of wakefulness without sinning? Four hours? One day? Two days? Where do we Christians get such a defeatist attitude towards sin? From Scripture? Yes we can go without sinning if we are constantly walking and praying in the Spirit. Now will we do this? More than likely not. So if we cannot, it is only because we are not walking according to the word of God. Galatians 5: Living by the Spirit -- 16This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the **** of the flesh. 17For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. 19Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. 1 Corinthians 10:13 - There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. James 1: 13When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. 16Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. 17Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
  6. Q3. (Romans 8:9) Is it possible to be a Christian without the Holy Spirit residing in us? What is the difference (if any) between the indwelling of the Spirit and the fullness of the Spirit? How do we remain "full" of the Spirit? Romans 8:9. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 1 Corinthian 6: 18Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. 19What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. Ephesians 4: And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption 1 Corinthians 12: 1Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. 2Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. 3Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. 4Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. 7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. A1. You cannot operate in Christ without the Spirit of God. You cannot even say he is Lord without the Spirit. Every man receives the Spirit of God when he is born again as a seal, as a gift, as the main operating component of his godliness through his faith in Christ. This is a given. Can you grieve him? sure you can. Will he depart? I don't have sound doctrine on this but if you grieve me, I would depart for a season until you repent. But Im not God. A2. There is no difference in the spirit. One Spirit operates in us all but with diversity of gifts as we see in 1 Corinthians 12. A3. I guess the ultimate question is "Are you dwelling with Christ fully?" Some people want to believe they can have one foot out and one foot in but you cannot be lukewarm with Christ. Jude. 17But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. 18They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” 19These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit. 20But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. You have the gift of the spirit if you speak in tongues an evidence that the Holy Spirit dwells in you, but you have the fullness of the spirit when you have the love of God shred abroad within your heart for all God's creation and any man that does not have this love has not he spirit of God and is not his AMEN
  7. Q2. (Romans 8:5-6) Exactly what does it mean to set your mind on the things of the Spirit? How do you do this? How can you recognize when the things you're setting your mind on relate to your sinful nature? How much of this is deliberate? How much is habit? What part does the Holy Spirit have it this? Or is this primarily right living by force of will? Romans 8:5-6 King James Version (KJV) 5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. A1. It means to have that mind of Christ, to be caring, merciful, forgiving, to have grace, love, faith, hope. A2. You have to turn or repent from you worldly or carnal ways of thinking A3. According to Galatians 16-21 16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the **** of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God and begin to let those fruits of the spirit be evident in your life A3. None, it is our nature. A4. All of it, because we practice it daily. A5. The Holy Spirit enables us to produce good fruit. Galatians 5:22-end. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. A6. No, God does not go against our will. The law of death or life and peace is a choice.
  8. Q1. (Romans 8:3-4) Why can't obedience to the law save us? What is the weak link? What then does it take to save us? We are saved by Grace and nothing other than that John 3:16, which is that Grace. By one mans sacrifice salvation was given. Obedience does not save us, but obedience is better than sacrifice and it promotes holiness. Salvation is free and any man that wants to be saved can be by he blood of the Passover lamb, Jesus Christ.
  9. Q5. (Romans 7:14-25) Christians disagree about who is the "I" in Romans 7. Is Paul referring to himself or others? What is your opinion? (We won't all agree here, but we'll learn what the issues are by taking and arguing for a position -- lovingly). I am convinced Paul is talking in first person or he is the I but I also believe that he expecting you to take the I and put you in place of the I and the me also. 14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but Jerri (hereinafter "I") is carnal, sold under sin. 15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I, that do I. 16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. 17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in Jerri (hereinafter "me.") 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. 20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. ,vv,22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
  10. Confused: Didn't I answer these already? Q4. (Jeremiah 17:9; Matthew 15:18-20; Romans 7:24) What is the doctrine of "total depravity"? Put it in your own words. Does it mean that none of God's original goodness shows through? Then what does it mean? Why does modern man tend to believe that man is basically good? How does this differ from what the Bible teaches? A1. A. That our hearts and mouths defile us. B. No because there is still good works in us that was in us from the beginning. C. That a renewal and a refreshing and reminder of whose we are needs to be a daily part of our lives. Romans 12 says. Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God. We just need to present ourselves back to God so that the goodness and love he put in us is restored so that it emanates from our hearts and mouths and we need to read our word daily. D. Because he helps others and he is not a murderer or thief. E. The word says there is none good but God.
  11. Confused: Didn't I answer these already? Q4. (Jeremiah 17:9; Matthew 15:18-20; Romans 7:24) What is the doctrine of "total depravity"? Put it in your own words. Because he helps others and he is not a murderer or thief. E. The word says there is none good but God.
  12. Q3. (Romans 7:12; 8:3) What does the law do well? What does it do poorly? Why is the law (knowing right and wrong) powerless to save us? What is the problem? A1. Let us know we are doing wrong. A2. Keep us from trespassing it. A3. Because of the flesh. A4. We need a savior.
  13. This scripture came to mind: Romans 7:24-25 New King James Version (NKJV) 24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin. Because we are in these earthly temples, they are not sanctified to understand heavenly ways so until we give our lives over to Christ, study our word, let the Holy Spirit take full reign, it is impossible for us to live holy or to subdue the flesh even though within our mind we know to.
  14. When I look at your question, it does not line up with the statement Paul made in a romans 7. Now I know at some point Paul says when I choose to do good, evil is always present, and the good I choose to do, I do not. Meaning no matter what I do temptation is always before me so that good I may want to do, I may be tempted to be contrary because contrary is a worthy adversary, always self-serving itself like at the gas pump, if nobody serves you, you just do what you want to do. The flesh always want to have it's way like a child wanting candy or pleasure even though you tell them constantly it is not good for them.
