  1. David's understanding of the Living God enabled him to challenge Goliath because he knew that God was most certainly alive and with him that very moment, and that, because He is all powerful, He would enable David to emerge victorious, in God's name, of course. The Living God should inspire fear and dread because He is always there, as He is alive, and we cannot escape whatever He would do to us.
  2. The "first" and "last" tells me that God always was and always will be. Revelation 1:8 mirrors God's revelation to Moses, "I AM THAT I AM", in that He reveals himself as the self-sufficient one, which means he, like matter, cannot be created or destroyed, so he always was and always will be.
  3. To inhabit eternity must mean that God inhabits a different plane than us. He cannot be physically measured as the world around us can. Perhaps He is the world around us, and all particulate matter. We won't know unless we inhabit eternity. To inhabit eternity is to inhabit heaven. Time and space will have no effect on us. To inhabit this with God is all we can ever hope for. I have not imagined what it would be like because it is probably beyond imagination, living in a world with natural laws as we do. To be there with the Eternal God and Christ Jesus invokes overjoyed emotions, the kind that make me weep for happiness.
  4. God's name Yahweh reveals that He is self-existent, that He always was, and always will be. In a way, God is eternity, which makes Him all powerful and omniscient. This understanding of his name contrasts with the Egyptian idols because idols can be destroyed, and were originally made by human hands, while God is above this.
  5. We should approach life without worrying about the things that we cannot control, because God will handle it for us. Timidity is wrong because you have no need to be timid knowing that God fights for you. Brashness is also wrong because God does not fight for you and your pride: he fights for what is right, and you may not always be right. The Lord won't fight our battles if our battles are unrighteous, or if we overstep our boundaries. There are things that we do not need, such as wealth and power, that God will not necessarily give us.
  6. Jesus didn't call on the heavenly host because He needed to die on the cross in order to save the sinners of the earth. It had been planned long before He was born as a human, and He was not about to scrap that plan now. Besides, He knew in His heart that it would be far more noble to sacrifice Himself in order to save everyone else. When He does call on the Heavenly Host, the army of angels will come at His call and wage His wars against evil: both human and demonic.
  7. Moses' rod was like a signal pole because it signalled to God that the Israelites were with him, and it signalled to the Israelites that God was still with them. In our battles, the Lord is our banner in the sense that we trust in Him, and therefore he will hold out for us, just as the banner held out in the battle for Fort McHenry.
  8. Jesus didn't call on the heavenly host because it had already been planned before He was ever born into human flesh that He would die on the cross to save the sinners from their transgressions, and Christ was not about to scrap the plan to save all humankind just to save Himself. When He does call on the heavenly hosts, He uses them to judge the nations and the people, making war and piece, punishment and judgement as He sees fit.
  9. Elisha's servant was afraid because he did not know that the Lord and His Host was with them, and thus he thought he would be destroyed by the enemy. The difference between Elisha and his servant is that Elisha knows the Lord is with him, and he puts utter trust and faith in God, therefore his eyes are open to the help that God gives him. For our eyes to be opened, it takes utter trust and faith in God. 1 John 4:4 strengthens our spiritual battle by letting us know that God and those who trust in Him are better and stronger than the mightiest here on earth.
  10. The Commander said he was on neither side because neither side was with God. This is significant because it took more than to be of God's chosen people for God to assist them. It also took their obeisance and willingness to follow the Lord. During the encounter, Joshua probably felt very frightened, especially because the Commander had said He was on neither side. After God had led the Israelites through the wilderness and they had finally crossed into the Promised Land, Joshua now had to cope with the fact that God may not be with them. After the encounter, he may have felt relieved that he was doing God's bidding, and overjoyed that the Lord had not abandoned him.
  11. These titles tell us that God is not only the Most High, but only through Him can we achieve success (ie. glory) in our lives. These titles should encourage us to worship God with all our hearts, because only then can we attain glory, and not by any other means. God's glory comes to fill our lives when we behold His glory and revere it. By doing this, we might attain glory for ourselves, and be as God in the sense that we are righteous, and attain glory above those who do not resist Satan.
  12. The phrase teaches me that God is the Highest. He is righteous and holy, He always was so, and He always will be. This means that I should respect him as He is, always and forever. I should follow his laws, in respect of what He is.
  13. To me, Most High means simply that: Most High. He is above all else. Nothing can compare with Him. Given the choice between obeying an idol, or in these days profit, the government, parents, bosses, etc, or God, one must obey God, because he is the Most High. I do not need to say tell God that He is the Most High. He already knows that, and He knows that I revere him as such. What I do need to do is remember what He is when I pray, and give Him respect as well as try to follow His laws.
  14. They both seemed to believe that there is only one god worthy of worship, as he is above all the others, because he made the heavens, the earth, and all that is therein. We don't know if they believed that there were other gods in existence, but they do seem to believe that only the Most High God is worth paying any attention to.
  15. I'm Will from Edmonton, Alberta. I've recently graduated from high school, and am continuing my education at the University of Alberta. This is my first Bible Study, and I'm looking forward to it. Up until now, everything I've learned from the Bible I've learned on my own, with only God's help. My family and friends are not spiritual, so I have to go it alone. I chose the Name and Titles of God because I'm having difficulty discovering God's true character. There is such a large difference in what is considered right and wrong between the Old and New Testaments, so I'm trying to connect the two, and discover the true Christian God as opposed to the fearful, vengeance-taking God I picture from the Old Testament.
