  1. Q3. Can a person be a "disobedient disciple"? Doesn't that represent an oxymoron? Did Gideon have a choice here? Do we have choices? a. As long as we are human we will occasionally slip and fall or be "disobedient". b. That doesn't mean we are less in God's eyes. It's when we habitually practice a disobedient lifestyle is what God will not accept. c. Gideon had a choice to either tear down the idol or leave it as it is. His conscience told him to obey, and he did. d. We have choices because God has given every person free will. He does not make us do anything like robots; He would rather we choose to respond to Him if we have the choice. KISS
  2. Q1. Why does God tell Gideon to tear down the Baal altar and Asherah pole? (6:25) What positive thing is he to do in their place? (6:26) What risks are involved in this action. Why does Gideon do this at night? Is the night mission a sign of weakness or faith? (6:27) a. Because they have been the objects of idol worship. b. Build an altar for the Lord using a burnt offering instead. c. The risks are that Gideon and his company would be killed by the idol worshippers. d. Doing it at night was safer, they wouldn't be seen. e. No, I believe it was a smart strategy so Gideon could accomplish was he needed to without interference.
  3. Ditto everyone else's replies (great answers, thank you!). Also, the Apostle Paul says, "when I am weak, then I am strong"...so God uses us where we are to accomplish His will. I think we need to look at that as an honor and a priviledge that the Lord loves us so much that He would stoop down and make great things out of us and our lives. What a trip! Our purpose is to allow God's perfect will in our lives so He can do wonderous things in us. Alleluia!
  4. Hi everyone, my name is Lynette and have been a Christian for 3 years. Prior to that I spent 33 years in a cult. I live in NJ and am active in a great Evangelical Church in Randolph. Although I spent a long time in a cult I read my Bible avidly. Gideon is one of my favorite characters, and I enjoy the OT very much. Thanks so much for inviting me to this Bible Study. I know it will be interesting and I will learn a lot that will enrich my life as Jesus' disciple. Looking forward to getting to know you all and perhaps making some good online friends! Sincerely, Lynette
