  1. God had told Rebekah that Jacob is supposed to rule over Esau (Genesis 25:23). To what extent does this excuse her plan to deceive her husband Isaac? There is no excuse for her tricking her husband. How much responsibility does Jacob bear in the deception? 100%. He had a choice and could have been truthful to his father and reminded him of the birthrite and thus received his blessing accordingly.
  2. Was Rebekah a spiritual woman, that is, interested in spiritual things? Rebekah was a spiritual woman as she went to God about her pregnancy with the twins jostling inside of her and He spoke to her. Was Isaac a spiritual man? Yes he was. He also was concerned about others as he did pray for his wife and his prayers were answered. Which do you think was the more spiritually sensitive? I believe Isaac may have been for he never gave up on God with his prayers to have his wife give him a son. Rebeka appears to be more depressed as she was barren and felt a disgrace for not being able to have children and I do not see where she prayed herself for a pregnancy. What evidence of spirituality do you see in Jacob? His ability to wait. In Esau? None, as he despised his birthrite.
  3. Why does the New Testament condemn Esau for selling his birthright? It represented sin and our giving in to tempatations. What did selling the birthright represent? Immediate gratification, separating ourselves from Christ. What does this transaction say about Esau's character and values? Esau has no values as he is only interested in the needs he can obtain now. What does it reveal bout Jacob's character and values? Jacob jumps at opportunities as he sees the value in waiting for what could be his as well as being proud in who he is and in the relationships he holds.
  4. Hello, My name is Michael. I am new to this type of Bible Study and I am trying to find my way around. I do not know how to submit the answers but I will keep trying to figure it out. I live in Cheyenne, WY, have been cancer free for the past two years and I am anxious to begin learning more about Christ. I do not attend church as often as I should but I am a believer and I thirst to learn more.
