  1. Churches are criticized for being dead churches. They need a strong wake up call. Churches need to be energetic and see to their good works, strengthen their theology and follow Christ's agenda, not their own. Moral failures will not do and they will not wear purified white garmets. He commends Philadelphia for having spiritual strength, keeping his word and not denying his name; a set of objectives applicable to all churches and individuals. We are to be overcomers and to have "ears to hear" the insights Jesus has given.
  2. Many churches have much in the way of material goods, buildings, wealthy members but do not look to their spirit. They can be ineffective and lose their usefulness. We need to renew our faithfulness and ask Christ to know our heart and lead us in the way everlasting. We must listen as we stand at the door and Jesus will help us overcome.
  3. Our original love and devotion can wane and we no longer work tirelessly for the Lord. We are not doctrinally zealous. Signs of love of Jesus is to make his Gospel our focus. Good works are vital once we are saved. People who are his own are eager to do what is good. we must persevere and not become weary. We must examine every teaching in the light of Scripture.
  4. When the church body tolerates malignant growths it's own existence is threatened. We must expose and eliminate sin where we find it in our home, country, and all creation.
  5. When we are immoral or overlook moraliity and doctrinal laxity we are to be disciplined by Christ and this loose action turns us away from the church. Today, we condone some questionable moral practices usually in the name of love for others that may not be morally pure. I believe Christians are often confused by morals because they know the person to be good otherwise or are a family member who we can make excuses out of affection.
