  1. This was a clear cut case of situational ethics. Situation ethics poses a hypothetical problem which has no alternatives except ones that are morally unacceptable. The lesser of the evils is then justified in light of the circumstances. Abraham was not wrong in considering the possibility that someone would appreciate his wife as beautiful and desire her for a wife. It was not even wrong to suppose that someone might even kill him to marry her. Abraham was wrong to assume that this would happen and that the only way to prevent it was to lie. Nowhere is the promise and the protection of God considered. Sinful deception is therefore begun before any real danger is ever experienced. Situation ethics is wrong because it refuses to believe in the sovereignty of God. God
  2. Without warning, God intervened in the life of Abraham. Abraham
  3. I think Abraham was his own worst enemy. He could have stayed right where he was and depended on God to help him and his family through the famine. Abraham wasn
  4. When you stop and think about it Abram had no concrete evidence that a life of blessing lay ahead. He was away from his home and family, all he had to rely upon was God. In the final analysis that is all anyone can have. As Abram went from place to place, the will of God must have seemed like a riddle. No stop along the path was irrelevant or without purpose. Calling upon the name of the Lord was an act of public worship and probably viewed with particular interest by the the Canaanites. It is also an act of faith. Since we will never know exactly what the future holds, but know God who holds the future, we should call on the name of the Lord in worship and faith. We have daily enemies which make our existence a life of continual conflict. Only God can give us the help we need and calling on the name of the Lord is a strong public testimony that we have faith in the one true God alone for all our needs.
  5. Our faith is commenced at the initiative of God. We have no particular spiritual qualities that draw God to us. God, in His electing grace, chose us to follow Him, while we were going our own way. I would have to acknowledge that it was God who sought me out and saved me, on the basis of divine grace. Thank God our spiritual lives are dependent on His faithfulness and not our own. Given that my faith is a gift from God, it would be pretty special. It is because of this faith, which is not my own, that I can step out in obedience to God. I
  6. It means to me that fear should not be a part of my life. Fear is a paralyzing force. It causes us to become passive. Fear keeps us from taking the initiative, from taking risks. Once our inhibiting fears are swept aside by an appreciation of our safety in God
  7. Abiding in His love is not automatic; it is something which we are commanded to do, and which takes effort and action on our part (albeit, inspired and empowered by God
  8. Faith brings the power of God into the life of the believer. We become the children of God and justified by faith, but we are also to live and experience the Christ-exchanged life by faith. The Christian life from start to finish is of necessity a life of faith
  9. Being called by God personally is very dear to me. God has looked at me and called me to be a part of His family. I believe He has looked upon me and thought
  10. The prophecies of Scripture play a significant role in the life of the believer. They reveal all that we can now know about the future and assure us the Lord will return to this earth to judge the wicked and to establish His kingdom. The Scriptures stimulate us to godliness, knowing how God will deal with sin and its effects. Prophecy should also motivate us to evangelize, knowing the time is short and that sinners will suffer the eternal wrath of God. Prophecy informs us that materialism is folly, for all the things of this world will be burned up. Only God
  11. Our culture rejects the Word of God. They think Scripture is a book of stories with no real power. Therefore they reject the idea that God is omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient. A lot of the people I talk to have this idea in their mind of a God they have created. He
  12. Peter challenges us to view the length of time our Lord has tarried in terms of just who God is rather than in terms of who we are. When viewed from the standpoint of who God is
  13. Men have a limited view of a full life. Most people will only live to be 70 or 75. God has no beginning and no end. So from the divine perspective, what is 70 years compared to eternity. We must understand what it means to perish in terms of eternity. Our salvation is the result of Gods longsuffering and patience. He would take great pleasure in the salvation of every sinner, but that is just not the case. God is patient so that He can draw His elect to Himself. We should be reminded of the holiness of God and His hatred of our sin knowing that there will be an outpouring of Gods wrath upon sinners. Even though the Christian will not experience this judgement, we should learn from it. We must learn to hate what God hates and seek to be holy. We should live in a manner consistant with our destiny. The horror of that day for sinners, and the finality of their judgement, should greatly motivate us to bear witness to our faith and seek to turn men from God
  14. Men are always interested in something new rather than in being reminded of that which is old. But this is not so with respect to the truth. The truth of God is found in Scripture, there is no need for new revelation. God spoke not just to inform us but to instruct us about what we are to believe and thus how we are to behave. To disregard God
  15. I thnk there are several reasons. It is difficult to talk about because we know our own failings, and how many times we have fallen short of God
  16. Sexual immorality is an offense against God. God did not create the body with its sexual capabilities and drives to satisfy these desires indiscriminately. God made our bodies for His purposes. When we trust in Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins and eternal life, we are united with Christ. Sexual immorality is incompatible with our union with Christ. What is done spiritually directly relates to what is done in the body. We dare not think ourselves spiritual when what we are doing in our bodies is immoral. The Holy Spirit actually indwells the Christian from the moment of salvation. According to Paul, our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Sexual sin is a sin against our own bodies. It is an obstacle to our spiritual growth.
  17. You can go anywhere in this world and find that such conduct is legal. A lot of people seem to think if something is legal it is acceptable. People live more in conformity to the standards of their culture than to the standard set by Christ. When laws of the land permit centain conduct, we have to ask ourselves if that practice is permitted in Scripture. Addiction is a very popular psychological word, even in Christian circles. In this culture it seems that if men or women are being immoral they are said to have an addiction. It seems to me that if the Lord Jesus is Master of our life, all other
