  1. 1. Why should a wife submit to her husband? Because the Word of God teaches it is fitting to the Lord. And that he is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church. 2. According to these verses, to what degree is a wife required to submit to a husband who is not a Christian or who is carnal Christian? For both Christian and Non Christians the Lord is the supreme head and that his commands take precedence over the husband when they are in conflict. 3. Does submission mean a wife doesn't verbally disagree? No it does not but like you said the wife should do whatever she can to help him see things from a broader perspective. She must lovingly and submissively correct him when he is wrong, not to put him down. 4. What if there's a conflict with the wife's conscience? Then she should always obey the Lord's command.
  2. 1. Why are Christian virtues so important to Christ? I agree with you. They are the character qualities necessary for healthy Christian living. And we are to cloth ourselves with the character of Christ. "We are to adorn ourselves with that set of beautiful characteristics that shows the beauty of Christ. After all everything we own or have or possess will never go to heaven with us but our character will. 2. Why are they so important to the church? Learning to live in harmony matters to God. I learned form Pastor Rick Warren that living on earth is just the practice time before we get to heaven. Getting along with other Christians teaches us how God would have us live and shows us what it will be like when we get to heaven living with only Christians. 3. Why are they so important to non-Christians? Because we are to be a witness to others that they might know the love of Christ through our examples. 4. Why are they so important in our homes? Home is the foundation of society. What we learn in the home will be displayed for all to see.
  3. 1. Why are sins of the tongue so easy to slip into? When we are uneducated about what God says about the tongue it is very easy to slip into sin. But, once you are aware we can never claim ignorance. Practicing what we learn always helps. 2. In what ways do they damage us and others? We can hurt others and our selves by saying untrue things. We can hurt others when we don't stand up for what is right. etc. 3. How can we break free of sins of the tongue? Practice what we learn in the word of God.
  4. 1. Why is sexual **** so difficult for people, especially males? All in all sexual **** is difficult for people. For some of those who have experienced having sex knows that the feeling is good. And if you like that feeling you will try to do anything to experience that feeling again and again. Like a drug. When you understand what God says about it it will help. If you like it so much it could take a while before you give it up. In God's word we are taught how to live for Him. What is good for us and what is not. We learn that God allows us to make choices in life. By the guidance of the Holy Spirit we can make right choices. Nevertheless, it is ultimately our choice to choose to do what is right and good our what is not good for us. Why men have so much difficulty in that area I'm not really sure. I know I have my own theory but not sure if it's the correct one. All I know, is that we all learn from the word of God. God teaches us through the Holy Spirit. We have free will to freely choose the right things. Whatever we decide will have a consequence. Through the Holy Spirit all things are possible. So even though the men have such a difficult time in that area there will be no excuse when we face God one day and He asks why we did what we did? 2. Though we cannot deny that we are sexual beings, how can we keep sexual desire from controlling us and causing us to sin? Understanding that when we face God one day there will be no excuse that we can give Him for the things we do here on earth. So yes we are sexual beings for a reason and a purpose but not our purpose but God's. How do we keep sexual desires from controlling us and causing us to sin? Understanding the outcome might help. 3.
  5. 1. Why are legalism and asceticism unable to restrain the sinful nature? It's pretty amazing that we can get caught up in legalism when we become self-righteous and prideful because of our intelligence. Our intelligence gets the best of us. There is no humility with a self-righteous and prideful spirit. Asceticism like legalism works the same way. When we take our gift of intelligence and use it to lift us up by making our own laws, and rules on top of rules, we have taken that gift for granted. Because our gift is just a gift, it is limited when we use it to try and benefit us. As we display legalism and asceticism we are displaying the sinful nature therefore it cannot be restrained. I believe that we do have a part in the restraining of our sinful nature and God has his part. Our part is to allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide and the Holy Spirit will lead and guide. Because God allows us to chose and make choices we are able to control many things in life. Doing our part is to control what we can and to be obedient to the Word of God. When the Holy Spirit convicts us of our wrong we are to adhere to the conviction and change what is wrong. To refuse shows our self-righteousness. 2. What alternative to legalism does Paul offer in Colossians 2? The alternative Paul gives is Christ. The personal relationship with him. Amen

  7. 1. How did forgiveness free us from the Law? Since Christ laid down his life for me I have been forgiven. Christ laying down his life was part of the fulfillment of the law. 2. What is the significance of nailing the Law to the cross? We no longer need the guidance of the law because we now have the guidance to the Holy Spirit. That it has been fulfilled on the cross. 3. What does this symbolize? It symbolizes the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. 4. How did the cross bring triumph over evil spiritual forces? The cross brings triumph over the evil spirit as our saviour laid down his life for me and you.
  8. 1. How did forgiveness free us from the Law? Forgiveness freed us from the Law because of what Christ did for me and you. Paid the ultimate sacrifice. His life for me. Because of that the Holy Spirit is our guide not the law. 2. What is the significance of nailing the Law to the cross? That the law has been fulfilled. 3. What does this symbolize? Jesus Christ death/burial/resurrection 4. How did the cross bring triumph over evil spiritual forces? The cross brings triumph by Christ fulfilling his mission on it.
  9. 1. Philosophy refers to a prevailing belief system. How can a belief system be empty and false? Your belief system will always be empty and false if you do not practice what you believe and only tell others what should be done. Then all your words are for nothing, they are empt. 2. Have you ever personally experienced being captivated by a belief system only to fine it deceptive and hollow? Maybe not the system but the people who run it.
  10. 1. What is the purpose of Paul's labors according to verse 28? Paul's purpose is is to admonishing, teaching with all wisdom that he may present to God mature Christians. 2. What does "perfect in Christ" mean? I think it means that the Christians that he is accountable for are growing in stature and in wisdom, are loving their neighbors like themselves, are witnessing and spreading the gospel, ministering and loving each other, etc. 3. How does Paul accomplish this goal? By admonishing, teaching with all wisdom. a. Proclaim - to preach in public where ever he goes. b. Admonishing - warning, instruct, counsel, in private maybe small group or one on one. c. Teaching - informal or formal setting everyday with all he comes across daily. And by using his wisdom and applying the appropriate teaching according to the believers maturity. 4. In what way is Paul "struggling" for them. His hearts desire is to be consistent in praying for the believers, a very important responsibility for a leader. Knowing the importance of whole heartedly consistent prayer can be very consuming and at many times can be a struggle to pray with that same consistent importance, never giving up on your fellow believers.
  11. 1. If our salvation depends upon the grace of God, not us, why is it necessary for us to "continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved"? I understand now that if Christ has reconciled us it is for always, if we are continuing in his faith. Because without Christ there is no way that we continue our faith on our own. Only then will we be established and firm, not moved. 2. What happens if we don't? We are easily mislead. 3. What is the nature of the security we have in Jesus according to this text (and this text only)? His grace and his promises. Eternal life.
