  1. The virgin conception means that the Holy Spirit came over Mary, in the same way that the Holy Spirit came over the desciples in the Upper Room at Pentecost. Mary was human, that is where Jesus got his humaness. He is fully God and fully human. Dr Wilson states in one paragraph that Jesus was human-divine. Mary's pregnancy and then the divine birth of Jesus was meant as a miracle. Jesus was the biological offspring of God and Mary. The virgin conception is very central to the christian message. Without Jesus coming to earth as a human, and being fully human and divine, and then dieing on the cross for our sins, there would be no christianity at all.
  2. Mary's How question was filled with wonder and faith. She had put her full trust in the Lord. Zechariah on the other hand his answer was one of doubt and disbelief. Mary had her faith to rely on Zechiarah needed to be shown how his faith would come about.
  3. The angel's announcement says that the child will become a great person, His title will be Son of the Most High, He will inherit the throne of his Father David, and His kingdom will never end.
  4. Hi all, My name is Sally, and I live on the West Coast of Florida. I am looking forward to the next 4 weeks of this study. Glad to stud with you all. God bless.
  5. What does the Psalm teach us about praise? We are to be deeply grateful to God, praising Him in all things. Where should praise occur? In the sanctuary or whereever God is present. With what should praise be conducted? with instruments and with our mouths. Who should praise? Everything that has breath. What does this psalm make you feel like after reading it out loud? Like dancing and leaping for joy
  6. How I would use them to instruct my children? Hmm good question, I think if I had kids I would use it to say listen to the Lord when he talks to you. Keep your word with Him. Be fair to your neighbors and those you come in contact with at school. Those that are mentioned above are about right living.
  7. Why we needed to be reminded that the righteous succeed, and the wicked perish? Those that do not follow God's laws will not be judged, they will go straight to hell. Those that did not have a positive influence in the community, those that do bad things, that dont believe that God is who he says he is. Why we need to be reminded of this? We need to be reminded of our influence in our church and in our community. What we say and do reflects back on us, and God. The line that stands out to me in this Psalm is Verse 3: He is like a tree planted by the stream of water. We need to be a tree in God's community and stand tall for Him.
  8. I take Psalm 42 as one of my favorite Psalms, I have two versions here. Oxford Annotated Bible New Revised Standard Version Says: As a deer longs for flowing streams so my soul longs for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God for the living God,When shall I come and behold the face of God? My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me continually, Where is your God? This version I think gives us a new look at Psalm 42. It makes the Psalmist wonder when he will behold the face of God. I still think of the song As the Deer pants for the water so my soul longeth after you. You oh Lord are the real joy giver and the apple of my eye. You alone are my strength and shield to you oh Lord, may my spirit yield. Just says it all about God for me. May my spirit yield to Gods because He knows what is best for me.
  9. Why is recognition that God loves you the basis of all faith? Because Jesus died for my sins, Gods redemption at Christ's expense. GRACE. What does this realization bring about in your life? That Christ loves me more then I know and I can live in his presence.
  10. The Psalmist is exiled from Jerusalem, so he can not lead in worshipping God in the temple. He is in a foreign land far away from the presence of God. He fights his spiritual depression by clinging to God. I have felt this way when my Mother passed away 6 years ago. I clung to God as my family and friends surrounded me, I could really feel the strength of the Lord, and I know he saw me through that time of mourning.
  11. We dont rely on God and his power. Inadequacy with our faith, we live below it. We dont plug into it like we should. They are not plugged into the faith, the Lord has given them. By stirring up the faith by plugging into God, and listening with our heart and not our heads!!
  12. No knowing that I would inherit 10 million would not affect my life any differently. I had this experience when my Grandmother passed away. She had put a trust fund in my name. I was not allowed to touch the money till I was 21. I knew that I would be able to put that money to use. No it did not change me knowing I could use that money. My life remained the same. We need to remember to be ready for Christ's return. To expect it. We need to love and honor all of our brothers and sisters in Christ, no matter what they have done, this is soo very hard to do, and I am going thru this right now at my job. One of my managers claims to be a Christian, but I wonder about her motives.
  13. We look forward to a future with Christ in heaven. We need to be excited about seeing our Lord when we get to heaven. We need to be motivated, moved to action. Ours is not a fake hope, but an alive hope and an anticipated hope, that we will live with our Savior in Heaven. Amen and Amen.
  14. Since I was having trouble downloading the forum here is my reply: The end of the term occurs when the day of redemption occurs when Christ returns, How the Holy Spirit functions is when we talk to God and God can talk to us through his Holy Spirit.
  15. Question 3: God's purpose for our lives is that He wants us to Praise him. We need to be a light for God. To show our light to those around us We are the salt of the earth, we are the essence of life, we are to be there for God and for Him to use as He will. We do it in the name of his Son our Savior.
  16. That when the time comes Christ will return and make his will be known to his followers here on earth. All things will be brought together as one. All enemies will be destroyed even death, which means we will live in heaven with Christ.
  17. Question 1: To be redeemed from slavery means to me that Jesus died for my sins on the cross, I would be walking the road with Satan. I would NOT be learning from this Bible study. I would not be going to church every Sunday. If I had not been redeemed and saved my life would be meaningless and void. My future would be void of any joy in the Lord. Thank God for his saving my Lord on the cross. Amen.
  18. Adoption means God loves us for who we are whatever we have done and we are still God's beloved children. We are chosen by God's choice. We dont choose God, God chooses us. He loves us no matter what we do or have done. We are his children as long as we believe in Him. Amen and Amen!!
  19. Holy means we are consecrated to God. Blameless we are without blemish and God forgives our sins through Jesus dieing on the cross for us.
  20. Good morning all. Here is my response to question 2. I dont believe there is anything scarey about predestiation. Pastor Ralph you have it right when you say people dont believe in it. The comforting thing about predestination is, that God has a plan for the world, that he will bring to fruition. And the reason Paul brings up predestination is that he wanted the gentiles to know that God is in control, and that he knew what God was bringing forth.
  21. This is a good question. The first thing I thought of when I read the question was the contemporary Christian song: In Christ. Don't know who sings it but this song kept going thru my mind, while I was writing down my answer. One of the lines is," In Christ we have a great reward." This is to say to me that, I will go to heaven to live forever with Christ, that is the reward I have to look forward to. We are incorporated into Christ by being one with Him. We can mount up with eagle's wings. There is no fear of being in Christ, because I will live with him one day in heaven and He is in me, Amen.
  22. Hi my name is Sally, and Jeff, I live just to the north of you in Largo. Was surprised to see somebody else on here from Pinellas County Florida!! I have a full time job. I am also taking online classes at Stonecliffe College online. I am excited about the book of Ephesians. I love the New Testament. I have been a saved Christian since I was 13. I sing in my church choir, and I love to sing praises to our Lord. Looking forward to studying with everyone from around the world. And to the retired Math professor, my next class is a business math class, and I dont do math well!! God bless everyone, Sally
  23. We think that if God predestined it that it is set in stone and over with. Our prayers do make a difference to God. And people that do are praying whimpy prayers!!
  24. What aspects of Moses' prayer of intercession should we emulate? His promises, his character, righteousness. Upon what logical grounds does Moses offer this bold appeal to God? He was appealing to God to save his children. What do you think it means to "pray the promises of God"? Praying back scripture to God that I can repeat. How does knowing the Bible help you get your prayers answered? I align myself with God. It helps us be in Gods will when we are truely at the throne of God.
  25. I am enjoying this study soo much. What the people were doing bad was they were building idols made of gold. Not praising God. God gets angry and He also has a great sense of humor, He has to with what he has to put up with sometimes in His children!!!!!!! Moses had to remind God what He said about the descendents and that is when God relented.
