Q2. Contentment
Elwood C O'Dell replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 6. Reject Greed, Pursue Godliness (1 Timothy 6:3-21)
It seems to me that good stewardship would expect one to try and better themselves in all areas of our lives. However, our measure of this should not be in how much materialistic stuff we are able to collect, or the social status we obtain, but whether or not we are in the center of the Lord -

As long as the false teachers think they can get away with sinful living and still retain their leadership roles in the church, they'll continue in what they've been doing. Doing this through formal accusations for which you have proof is the way to handle such a situation. However, people are often tempted to compromise because they don

It is our responsibility, as a part of their family, to minister to them in a way that is dignified, so that they will not be embarrassed, humiliated, or ridiculed and so they will not be a burden to others. We need to do this in a way that is pleasing to God and brings honor and glory to Him. This can be seen as a payment of honor to those who supplied for us when we were young. To not take this responsibility seriously

Q4. Example of Godliness
Elwood C O'Dell replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 4. Setting a Godly Example (1 Timothy 4)
Godliness comes from with in as the Spirit of Christ dwells in us and He lives through us. Godliness comes as a result of a personal, intimate, fellowship and relationship with God as we spend time seeking His face, His presence, His indwelling in our lives. In regards to church leaders we must remember that people learn to do what they see in action. Therefore, people must see practical, Godly living demonstrated in the lives of their leaders if the church is to be healthy. -

Q1. Apostasy
Elwood C O'Dell replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 4. Setting a Godly Example (1 Timothy 4)
So that he will not be surprised or overwhelmed by the chaos he sees in the church at Ephesus. It should help him realize that this has been and is a constant battle that Satan causes, however, victory is assured to the child of God who walks in loving obedience with Him. -
Q4. (1 Timothy 3) According to our text, do you see differences in qualifications between overseers/elders and deacons? What are they? Basically the qualifications are pretty much the same as far a character is concerned. The difference is in the role or function they perform. The deacon appears to be one who performs service to others while the main function of the elder appears to be that of teaching. The elder should also by a more mature Christian.

Q2. (1 Timothy 3:6, 10) Why should leaders be observed carefully and tested before placing them in office? What should you be looking for during this period? Potential leaders need to be carefully observed and tested so as to be sure they live what they say they believe. It is important that they be a living example of Christ-likeness in all situations. One should be looking for a person who has the quality characteristics mentioned by Paul and Titus. Characteristics that show evidence they are truly a person of God, one living a holy life that brings glory to Christ and the church.

Q1. (1 Timothy 3:2-12) What kind of leader do you believe Paul is indicating for us with the phrase "husband of one wife"? Why is a leader's family an important indicator of leadership potential or problems? I feel he is talking about a person who is completely devoted to their marriage. One that others can look to as a person who is faithful and committed to doing the right thing. If one cannot control and lead in the home they will probably be very ineffective as a leader in the church. The home in many ways is a living, breathing, example of

It would separate further the divide between the rich and the poor. We should not dress in ways that draw unnecessary attention to ourselves or cause a divide between us in another that would hinder our witness to them. -

Q2. Mediator and Ransom
Elwood C O'Dell replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 2. Men and Women in God's Household (1 Timothy 2)
I believe Paul emphasizes this because man kind is incapable of providing salvation for himself in any fashion. We needed a mediator, one to act on our behalf before the Father in order to provide a way for reconciliation. We needed one beyond ourself to provide the ransom necessary to purchase our salvation. Christ, through his perfect sacrifice on Calvary provided both on behalf of mankind. -
Q4. Exhortation
Elwood C O'Dell replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 1. God's Grace and Calling (1 Timothy 1)
Why does Paul need to remind Timothy about the prophecies spoken over him? Paul is reminding Timothy that when he was commissioned, God's Spirit had spoken through a person with the gift of prophecy concerning the spiritual gifts that Timothy had been given. Now, instead of being overwhelmed by the task, Timothy is to be aware that God's power and strength are with him, that God has fitted him to this task. To help Timothy keep his eye set on the mission set before him. To not give up. In practical terms, what does "fight the good fight" really mean? To hang in there, resolve to hold to the truth regardless of the situation. Why does Paul tell Timothy to "hold on to faith and a good conscience"? Both of these things were deserted by the false teachers of the day. Paul is reminding Timothy that he will need these if he is to "keep his eye on the ball," and be focused about both his task and the purity of his own heart as he carries out his mission. What temptation is Paul trying to counter in his prot -
Q3. Doxology
Elwood C O'Dell replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 1. God's Grace and Calling (1 Timothy 1)
He alone is God, eternal, immortal, invisible, the Only God and worthy of all honor and glory. We are created to give praise to Him. We are instruments of praise. He deserves the praise for all He is and has done and for us. He inhabits the praise of His people. -
Q2. Grace
Elwood C O'Dell replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 1. God's Grace and Calling (1 Timothy 1)

Q4. Conquering Overwhelmingly
Elwood C O'Dell replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 8. More than Conquerors (8:28-39)
You name it, the early Roman Christians faced it. The same is true today. But the good news is that in the end these things do not conqueror the Christian for he ends up living with the Master he served in a beautiful place which is being prepared for him. Praise God the journey is not over until Christ welcomes us home. Then, at that point in time, we are more than conqueror through Him who loved us and gave himself for us. -
Q3. God Is for Us!
Elwood C O'Dell replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 8. More than Conquerors (8:28-39)
For me my life has only one enemy. He is like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. He will use what ever means, or whoever he can to try and destroy that which God intends for me. But he is a defeated enemy. Christ saw to that on Calvary as He fulfilled the Father
