1. Q3. In what way did the priests participate in the altar by eating of the Old Testament sacrifices? How does Paul connect this observation with our participation with Christ's sacrifice? The priests were not only to burn the offering animal on the altar but they were to eat a portion of the animal which God said was their's as payment and a livelihood it is how they were to be fed and the sacrifice was not done till this portion was eaten at least some eaten by the priest. the participation of the priest eating a portion was just as important as the slaughtering and offering in burning the offering. and in cretain offerings the family of the offerer were to eat as well as the priests. In the participation of the Corinthians and us now days is thru eating and drinking the elements of bread and wine in the meal of celebration of the remembering of Christ's giving himself as our sacrifice we cannot participate unless we take and eat and drink the elements. being obedient to his Jesus's commands of how to remember this his death for us.
2. ?Q2. What does koinōnia mean? What does it mean to "participate" or "share" in the blood of Christ Koinonia means participation sharring communily in something. as the christian community sharred in celebrating a feast representing the blood of Christ shed for {many) or all of us. To participate or share in " the blood of Christ " means that we do something and share in an expreience in this case breaking of bread and sharring a cup of wine representing the elements which Jesus said were to represent his body and blood in these sharring meals to remember him and his death for us. particapition means to eat and drink together with the same representation in the mind of all participating being remembered by all the same way.
3. Q1. Why was Paul exhorting the Corinthians about the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons? What was going on in the church? What was the danger to the believers Paul was exhorting the Corinthians not to participate in the sacrifices to the gods of the pagans because he knew that we participate in the sacrifice meal that connects us to Jesus and God the Father and the spirit. We are filled with God's presence and have this reality in our spirits and in our minds. He knew that stone and or bone or wood and precious metals had no life in them so that the most probable thing that these pagans were worshiping were evil spirits or deamons. and he knew that the evil that they participated in would be filling and affecting the people and that evil presence and God's spiritual presence did not mix and he was afraid that either the persons would be won over to demonic worship all together or that God 's presence would leave these people and they would lead others in the false ways and in so doing loose God's favor in their lives. making the Corinthian church weak in areas. Because demons and God's presence cannot exist in the same body at least not for long. lives and fall away taking others with them.
4. Q4. (1 Corinthians 11:26) In what way is the Lord's Supper a proclamation? To whom is the proclamation made? Why is this important? What happens to the church when its proclamation shifts to a different central theme? The Lords supper is a proclamation in that in celebrating it the words of scripture read in the celebration proclaim what Jesus's death was for and what it does for sinners and the events involved in this sacrifice. It is important in our rememberance in our children's and those we are discipeling and future generations and the lost to hear the message and learn and to be able to pass the proclamation on to others. It is made to all manking. When the proclamation goes away from proclaming christs death for our forgiveness and turns in other directions then the message is not given or proclaimed and gets lost and is in danger of being of not being carried ont to future generations of people.
5. Q3. Why is our remembrance of Christ's death so important? What happens to Christianity if we neglect remembering in this way? What happens to us personally when we forget Christ's death? Remembering Christ's death is important because he died to pay the price we owed no that he owed It was done in love for us as his adopedhildren and is we neglect remembering his death done on our behalf it is like not being thankfull as if you slapped someone who saved youfrom death in a n accident or a doctor who saved your life in surgery in the face . only this God who saved you with the death of his son did it for free and out of love of you.... personalized to each person on earth who will accept him and his attoning for their sins.
6. Q2. What was the purpose of the Passover meal for future generations? Why was it to be repeated? What was to be remembered? What would have happened if the Jews had stopped remembering the Exodus? The purpose for the Passover meal was to remembe the night that God asked the Jewish people in Egypt to eat a special meal ready to travel and to sprinkle the blood of the lamb killed for the feast on the door way to their home and the angel that came and took all of the Egyptians first born children did not touch their homes. Their homes and families were spared the sorrow of death. The passover feast was to be repeated so that the Jewish people did not froget God's provision for them and would remember and be thankfull to God for the favor and blessing they recieved. If the Jews had stopped remembering then the generations to come would forget God's intervention into their lives and froget God and perhaps loose touch with God and their faith and end up living faithless and sorrow filled lives, without hope of what God had done and would do in their future. Hope would be lost.
7. Q1. When repeated often, doesn't the Lord's Supper run the risk of becoming mundane and lose its meaning? Why did Jesus command its repetition? The Lord Jesus commanded the repetition of the Lord's supper for the purpose that we remember him and his life and what he did for us in the crucifiction and resurrection. If we make the Lord's supper in our minds a means of thanksgiving for what is a gift well loved in our hearts the repition frequently of this supper should only make us anxious to celebrate it not become mundane. I don't think that someone saved from death in any way finds it mundane to repeatedly think of what happened and be thankfull for what saved them again we should be joyful to think of what Jesus did for us frequently , dailly, with renewed joy and thankfulness. And the many Scripture passages and ways to celebrate this feast can aleviate any mundaneness. Be creative and change tha way your church celebrates the feast ... and it will be new each week or month.
8. Q4. (1 Corinthians 11:26) In what way is the Lord's Supper a proclamation? To whom is the proclamation made? Why is this important? What happens to the church when its proclamation shifts to a different central theme? Co 11:26 For1063 as often as3740 ye eat2068, 302 this5126 bread,740 and2532 drink4095, 302 this5124 cup,4221 ye do show2605 the3588 Lord's2962 death2288 till891, 3757 he come.2064 The lord's supper is a proclamation because in celebrating we are showing everyone present by taking the elements and by what is proclaimed by the person leading the celebration that this is an important message that this feast or celebration stands for and that by taking communion we show that we believe and stand for this message . The proclamation was made to the early christians and apostles and deciples but in the long run to any christian who reads the scriptures this proclamation stands to be proclaimed to christians till the end of time. If the proclamation shifts to another central theme than the death and resurrection and crucifiction then the proclamation stops or at least gets watered down to a non central point - This would be sad because it is our central theme and mystery of the Church....
9. Q3. Why is our remembrance of Christ's death so important? What happens to Christianity if we neglect remembering in this way? What happens to us personally when we forget Christ's death? Remembering christ's death is important because his death for us is the central reason we are saved and christian in the first place. If not for his death on the cross we would be stuck back with the old law and still only having the blood of animals hide our sin and it was messy and not practical and not a complete forgiveness. If we neglect the remembering of this crucifiction and the meaning of the the message of the cross we neglect the main issue of christianity we loose our effectiveness as christians and christianity goes back wards or stops growing. presonally when we forget the cross- our lives become less meaningfull and we may fall and back slide into sin and or become non effective witnesses and we stop careing about ourselves and others...... and God . We stop growing in any meaningfull christian way.
10. Q2. What was the purpose of the Passover meal for future generations? Why was it to be repeated? What was to be remembered? What would have happened if the Jews had stopped remembering the Exodus? The purpose of the Passover meal for the future generations was to establish in their children ( the Jewish families ) the memory of the time God gave Moses as a leader and Moses inter ceded with Pharo and with God's intervention was able to lead the People out of the exile and slavery in egypt. It was to be repeated so they never forget and they would pass on the memory and the story to their future children and grand children. forever. If the Jews had stopped remembering the exodus then they would stop thanking God for their release and forget God perhaps. And in time the Exodus and God's intervention would be forgotten and perhaps they may have fallen further out of the grace of God than they did fall. And become hethen people and worship false Gods and not the one true God.
11. Q1. When repeated often, doesn't the Lord's Supper run the risk of becoming mundane and lose its meaning? Why did Jesus command its repetition? I do not feel that the frequently repeating the Lord's Supper is what would make it become mundane and loose it's meaning. I think the Key to frequently celebrating the Lords supper and keeping the experience significant and new and meaningfull has alot to do with a persons heart and preperation for this celebration , experience, think of it as an ( act of participation ) We do alot of things in our lives over and over again. especially with our work... the only way we can stand to go and do this is to think of it is diffrent ways and add joy to our days by doing something that we do perhaps with music in the background or other ways of changing the mundane. I will say two scripthru verses came to mind when I was thinking of this. They are Romans 12:2 Be ye not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mindsThat ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. and a better one is --- Ephesians 4:23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind. I feel that even if we were to take the Lords supper every day... and the only ones I know that do this are the Catholic's at daily mass... that I am aware of any way or if we partake each and every week as a congregation. It is the preperation of our minds and hearts that make the experience, or the act of participation in the Lords supper new and meaningfull to our hearts with each repitition. So As you prepare for the Lords Supper .... keep reading scriptures that talk of the Lords supper and think of new ways to look at it in your mind and share with others how this is and or ask the Holy Spirit to show you new joys and ways of thinking of the celebration of Jesus's Dying for us... Which is what is being celebrated when we partake. And be ye renewed in the Spirit of your mind Eph 4:23 Each time you participate in the celebration of the Lords supper it should not become a mundane and common experienc. I feel Jesus commanded it's repetition so that there was an experience happening in our lives that would remind us that we are not good , we are sinners but that Jesus /God gave us a gift of taking our punishment for sin and that thru this experience repeating itself often in our lives we will REMEMBER what Jesus did for us....
12. Q4. Which part of the meaning of the Lord's Supper is most valuable for you at this point in your spiritual journey when you partake of and meditate on the Lord's Supper? I feel in gathering together with the friends at church for the Lords supper, that the most valuable part is being present together with the others because the promise of Jesus where two or more are gathered together in my name I will be there in the midst of you. Just being in a place where people gather to take the elements of bread and wine in communion. His presence is important to me at this time.
13. the action words used with the Lord's Supper that teach us that we should be thinking of Jesus's sacrifice for attonement when we partake of the Lord's supper are Broken for ; Poured out; Forgiveness;Give thanks;..... His body was Broken for us on the cross and thru the beatings and swords and thorns his blood spilled out for a sacrifice for us... This all added up to a sacrifice great enough to blot out of God the Father's site the sins of the world and Forgiveness was flowing free for those who would acknow- ledge Jesus as Savior and God. And confess they were the sinners in need for this sacrifice. And we need to thank God and Jesus for this sacrifice and ask the Holy spirit to keep us in a state of mind to be humbled and thankfull for the gift that frees us to be God's adopted sons and Daughters. And Communion is a time of being humbled and thankfull that we are His and He is our God and Savior.
14. I have known some people who had the idea that it was just a symbolic and not to important sacrament of service. The evidence of this is that they would use anything to have communion I saw them use pepsi and cookies at one time while camping to have a communion service and the attitude was not serious ! I think almost mocking at times. I did not hang around this group because of their attitude. I think a balance of all is that no matter what you think of the elements that the literal, or figruative belief that it cannot be taken lightly even if it is figurative. It is God's presence that is there whether it is physical presence or spiritual presence . It is God'Presenceand there needs to be reverence and an attitude of respect when you deal with God's presence. If I am at my church or another church visiting. When it comes to communion I hold myself to a respectfull mood and I don't care whether the church has a literal or very symblilc interpertation. My mood and presence will hold respect for the bread and wine or bread and grape juice. My respect and the balance I can see is that God's presence it there and has to be respected. If you get to much symbolic and get an attitude that "it's only. You probably have that attitude about His presence also and that is sad and should I feel be repented of you are not even respectfull of his presence in that instance. And I pray for anyone that is that literal that they awaken their consciences and start to see where they are ignoring the presence of God in their midst. And I would wonder in some circumstances if God is there when they blow off the importance of the elements as what they stand for. I hope this answer is not to critical.
15. My understanding of the bread and wine which now is figurative. but in the past was literal- as I grew up catholic till I was about 15 when I was saved thru a Bapitst youth fellowship I was attending with a high school friend. I feel that just the fact that the elements represent the Body and blood of christ that in itself eather way I look at it if God is physically or spiritually present does not matter to me as much as the fact He Is Presentand that in itself makes me go inward and ask the Holy Spirit to show me where I have been wrong in the recent past. sins I may have not confessed and it helps me repent and change so that when I approach and take communion that I will not feel uncomfortable with God's presence. I feel so strong about this that I will not partake if there is a circumstance where I have not frogiven or seeked forgiveness from someone or have to make something right that I have not attended to . I will wait till the next communion service. We in our church have communion about once a month. So I guess it makes me deal with sin in my life sooner because I enjoy communion and I usually try not to let the sun go down without repenting and getting things right so I can feel free to partake when we do have communion.
16. John says" Behold the Lamb of God " he is pointing out Jesus as this. and because Lambs were used at that time for sacrifice and John had most likely had a revelation from God or studied ancient text of the bible and knew of Jesus being sacrificed. He most likely was referring to sacrifical lambs. Lambs were the generally used along with goats for sacrifice only the poor could use pigon doves as a replacemnet. But because of the times he most likely was referring to a sacrifical lamb in his greeting and showing the crowd whom was approaching. He preached on repentance and this would be right in line with what he was preaching to the crowd about repentance and baptism... and that Jesus would die to get rid of all mankinds sin... The comprehensiveness of " sins of the world " was a radical idea at that time for each individual mostly and sometimes families would individually offer sacrifice for their own individual sins. To preach " sins of the world" would be forgiven was very radical and almost beyond some of the people's imigination i would think. And if they inclued that this included past from adam to their time and future to the end of time then they would have been thinking this was really really radical.
17. The Prince of peace will bring about True, real, authenic, genuine peace in the new heavens and new earth. We can look forward to there being peace between all the people, Animals and creatures will play with the children without danger! Righteousness and truth shall reign in the hearts of the people, God's All animals can be together lamb and lion, viper and children, Wolf and lamb. no vengence or evil will be around. A Paradise like he ment us to live in the garden like before adam and eve sinned.
18. Gideon named the altar he built ' The Lord is Peace" this he did in response to a reply he recieved from the angel who brought the message from the Lord to him. Saying peace and you shall live. Gideon took this as a promise and a prophesy that he would survive and live thru all he was to do. The Lord offered peac or put peace in the heart of Gideon by letting him know he would not die. He would live. The peace came from an assurance that he would be alive after all that he would do and accomplish that the Lord was ordering him to do..... fro he was in fear and this fear went away or was made tolerable knowing he had a promise from God thru the angel that he would not die.
19. Some synonyms for save= deliver, rescue, help, spare. some synonyms for savior= helper , reclaimer, recoverer, salvager, redeemer. To earn the name a savior actually needs to reclaim something for someone, salvage something or someone, recover someone or something, reclaim something or someone. help something happen or help someone with a problem or task. God / Jesus was the savior He salvaged us, he reclaimed us, he recovered us from the effects or sin, He reclaimed us from satan's clasp, He salvaged our hearts and lives from the evil of the world.
20. The responsibility of the next of kin to someone in his family who was in harm or trouble was to rescue them from whatever the trouble was - - - redeem or pay of their debt, avenge their death if they were killed, pay for or arrange insome way for their release if they were captured or jailed. Jesus cared for mankind so much that he arranged for his only son to become human and take the form of a human servant... and then his son redeemed us from the effect (death) that sin would be for humans and played the part of kinsman redeemer and gave the life of his son for our lives and thus for those who accept Jesus as their savior he has paid the price to rescue us from the effects of our sin. It was paid in full . We are rescued/saved. This says God values us as much as he values His son. He looks on us as precious enough to give up the life of his only son for. And that is very precious............. almost unfathonablely precious.... And he arranged it so that this redeeming redeemed everyone from adam at the begining to those soles born on the last day of this earth as we know it.
21. God has shown Grace to my family in that so far I feel alot of my family has had the opportunity to hear God's Good news of Salvation. Including myself. I was saved about the Age of 12 or 13 I heard the message of salvation at an Baptist youth convention which a youth group from the Emanuel Baptist Church in our town attended. We were from a small town and the convention hall was full of thousands. I was afraid to leave our group and go forward as I was afraid of getting lost in the crowd but in conversation with my friend and the Pastor that drove us to Syracuse I told them that I hand wanted to go forward but of my fright of getting lost in the crowd. The pastor and my friends took me into the kitchen of the Pastor's home that night and I prayed the prayer and gave my Heart to god that night. I attended the Baptist youth group because of my friendship with Deb. my friend for our large family of 10 is catholic and I was the eldest. Since that time I have had a very confusing time of it for I had little decipleship since that event. I was always encouraged to go to catholic youth group etc once they found out I was saved .But the Lord thru YFC ( youth for christ let my brother's and sisters many of them hear the word. I know I the eldest and my brother #10 in line the youngest are saved. I know brother#6 in line was saved. But now attends Christian scientist church. And sister # 4 in line was saved and now does not attend church. One sister deceased now in a car accident I am not sure of but she went to yfc and her mother in law took her to church so I know she heard the salvation message. ( I have a hope she accepted it but do not know for sure.) Also God's grace has worked in healing in our family grace that I was healed from asthma and my dad has been cured of cancer. Alot of Grace in a family that 4 out of ten are def. saved. Alot of grace has happened .... Praise God.
22. It is because God loved his people the Jewish people decendents of Abraham and wanted them to of their free will love Him. That God made a plan that would allow sin to be forgiven once and for all. In the OT. The blood sacrifices only covered sin ... God needed a way to get rid of Sin so He could love people and people could love him and come to him and free of the stain of sin. He was steadfast in his repenting of his anger against the Jews and making another covenant over and over again because He knew that his plan once carried out by his Son Jesus would take in the Jew's and people of the past OT. and would focus forward on all sin after the Sacrifice. Now it is out there by Grace and faith that if we believe His steadfast love kept the OT. saints in a bosom of Abraham till Jesus Completed his Sacrifice and then His plan of love and Grace was completed. It was like a Grandfather clause today He kept up his love of the Jews and OT. believers and kept them till the Day of Salvation. They were like Grandfathered into his plan of Salvation. At least that is how I see the plan. If I am correct.
23. Faithfulness- a devotion to a person or a cause, obligation or duty to.... this shows that there is an allegiance , constancy , loyalty and fidality that should be involved in the faithfulness. If you are to keep your word you must feel inside some of this obligation to loyalty to the person of God you are to be faithful with. God had been faithful and loyal to them and kept them alive and fed and with out enemies bearing down on them. Knowing God 's faithfulness makes me feel that almost anything that God would ask really isn't much and that I should comply and be faithful, consistant and loyal to what He asks.... yet knowing my worldly fleshly self it will be a struggle to be faithfull and consistant. But it is inspired by knowing what God is like... and if I can find a way to keep this inspiration alive in me it should be easire to comply and be faithfull. As believers unless we can find a way to be faithful and keep in compliance with God we will not be able to inspire others to the Christian life style and following God . and God will not be as close with us if we keep falling away like israle did. It takes Faithfulnesss to keep close to him and it requiers Faithfullness and constancy to inspire in others the wilingness and thirst for God and christian living.
24. It was essential that The Lord God forgive Israel because out in the wilderness , The Lord God was their supplier and porvider. It was God who fed them and kept their enemies from attacking them and If he willed he could have just whiped them off the face of the earth. Opened up the earth and they all dissappeared. He was their basic sustenance. From all indications of reading the chapter and the fact that the Lord let Moses hew two new tablets and talked to him 40 days and nights. and was willing to accept Moses as the go between between the people and Him . The fact that the Lord's anger was abaited and kept. Shows that the people's hearts must be right. It the peoples hearts were not right God would not have agreed to the new covenant. How long their hearts stayed repentant after this is not known but at this time they had to have been repentant for God to act as He did. The amazing part of God's forgiveness is that we really do not deserve it.... We repent and then sin again. We don't repent and live perfect lives free from sin and neithe did the Israelites. The returned to sin quickly.... God does all the forgiving and helping us to repent. The amazing thing is that a perfect God wants for relationship with us so much that He goes and makes a way for our forgiveness. From OT sacrifice to His ultimate NT Giving of His Son's Life....
25. If we remove the metaphors of Father and Son we will miss our understanding of God as Ruler and protector. God as protector really is a metaphore that I and alot of people I know use and like and are comforted by. The chick's being gathered under God's wing is one I particularly like and can understand and apply in my life in many ways. the other metaphors were ok but I did not relate to them.
