  1. Q2. (Hebrews 4:15) In what ways did Jesus share our weaknesses? In what ways was Jesus' tempted? Because we know he didn't sin, were his temptations easier or more difficult than ours? Do we have any temptations he didn't have? Why does it comfort us that he can sympathize with our temptations and weaknesses? In what ways did Jesus share our weaknesses? He has shared the weaknesses of human nature. He knows what it's like to be tempted. "Weaknesses" (NIV, NRSV) or "infirmities" (KJV) is astheneia, "incapacity for something or experience of limitation, weakness." In what ways was Jesus' tempted? Jesus' forty days of testing in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11) included Satan's "enticement to improper behavior." In the Garden of Gethsemane Jesus fought his own recoil from bearing sin on the cross. Because we know he didn't sin, were his temptations easier or more difficult than ours? "Sympathize" (NIV, NRSV), "be touched with the feelings of" (KJV) is sumpatheō (from which we get our word "sympathy"), "'having the same pathos' and hence 'sharing the same experience, suffering,' and then 'having fellow feeling.'"5 Vincent observes, "This is more than knowledge of human infirmity. It is feeling it by reason of a common experience with men."6 Do we have any temptations he didn't have? "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are -- yet was without sin." Why does it comfort us that he can sympathize with our temptations and weaknesses? Because he has shared the weaknesses of human nature. He knows what it's like to be tempted. "Weaknesses" (NIV, NRSV) or "infirmities" (KJV) is astheneia, "incapacity for something or experience of limitation, weakness."7 Part of that "weakness" is the ability to be tempted, to be tested. Jesus entered fully into our experience of temptation. "Tempted" (NIV, KJV) or "tested" (NRSV) (peirazō) means "to endeavor to discover the nature or character of something by testing, try, make trial of, put to the test." Also "to entice to improper behavior, tempt."8 The point is that Jesus' experience was both like ours and unlike our own:
  2. Q1. (Hebrews 4:14) What is so important about "holding fast to our confession." What is our confession or profession of faith? Why is maintaining this confession so vital? What is so important about "holding fast to our confession." To get the full understanding here let's look again at the word "holding fast" NT:2902 krateo (krat-eh'-o); from NT:2904; to use strength, i.e. seize or retain (literally or figuratively): KJV - hold (by, fast), keep, lay hand (hold) on, obtain, retain, take (by). NT:2904 kratos (krat'-os); perhaps a primary word; vigor ["great"] (literally or figuratively): KJV - dominion, might [-ily], power, strength. 1 Tim 1:19-20 19 having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck, NKJV 1 Tim 3:9 9 holding the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience. NKJV 2 Tim 1:13 13 Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. NKJV What is our confession or profession of faith? Rom 10:8-9 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. NKJV 1 Cor 12:3 3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. NKJV Why is maintaining this confession so vital? These scriptures I use here are warnings to us, and why it is so important to stay hooked up to our confession of Jesus and to live in the profession of our faith. As we see here, we can risk the lost of our eternal life with Him if we do not stay "stead fast". If all we had to do was confess and continue in our old ways and life styles then the author here would not warn us to "hold on" 1) lest we drift away 2) rejoicing of the hope firm to the end 3) we must be steadfast to the end 4) Hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering Heb 2:1 2:1 Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. NKJV Heb 3:6 6 but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end. NKJV Heb 3:14-15 14 For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, NKJV Heb 10:23 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. 3. Q4. (Hebrews 4:12-13) What do these two verses have to do with what precedes them? How is the Word described? What effect does the Word have on us? Why do we need to continually expose ourselves to the Word of God? First of all let's look at the word precedes and it's meaning then we will see a more action way of the Word of God and how it works for us; Precede is a verb, which makes it an action word and the meaning to this word shows how it moves within the words we use. Webster; 1 : to surpass in rank, dignity, or importance 2 : to be, go, or come ahead or in front of 3 : to be earlier than 4 : to cause to be preceded : PREFACE intransitive senses : to go or come before In Genesis we see from the very start of creation that "God said" and then we can see what preceded; The fall of man and how before that fall there were animals to supply the shedding of blood for man's sin. God proceeded the need. The next 3 verses of scriptures used shows that Jesus was there waiting for the right timing to come that would proceed His Father's word in the salvation plan for mankind, doing what animals could not do and that was to give eternal life and the name of Jesus where the power and glory would manifest to perform His word that had already proceeded from His mouth. John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was God and the Word was with God" In Psalms 107:20, "He(God) sent His word and healed them" John 3:16 states: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son and who so ever will believe in Him shall be saved" One more verse to look at and we will move on: Mk.4:4 Jesus answered the devil in the wilderness when being tempted to turn the bread into stone with this reply: "Thou shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God" Now here's the Strong's meaning of the word proceeds: NT:1607 ekporeuomai (ek-por-yoo'-om-ahee); from NT:1537 and NT:4198; to depart, be discharged, proceed, project: KJV - come (forth, out of), depart, go (forth, out), issue, proceed (out of). NT:1537 ek (ek) or ex (ex); a primary preposition denoting origin (the point whence action or motion proceeds), from, out (of place, time, or cause; literal or figurative; direct or remote): KJV - after, among, X are, at, betwixt (-yond), by (the means of), exceedingly, (+abundantly above), for (-th), from (among, forth, up), + grudgingly, + heartily, X heavenly, X hereby, + very highly, in, ...ly, (because, by reason) of, off (from), on, out among (from, of), over, since, X thenceforth, through, X unto, X vehemently, with (-out). Often used in composition, with the same general import; often of completion. NT:4198 poreuomai (por-yoo'-om-ahee); middle voice from a derivative of the same as NT:3984; to traverse, i.e. travel (literally or figuratively; especially to remove [figuratively, die], live, etc.); KJV - depart, go (away, forth, one's way, up), (make a, take a) journey, walk. NT:3984 peira (pi'-rah); from the base of NT:4008 (through the idea of piercing); a test, i.e. attempt, experience: KJV - assaying, trial. NT:4008 peran (per'-an); apparently accusative case of an obsolete derivative of peiro(to "pierce");through (as adverb or preposition), i.e. across: KJV - beyond, farther (other) side, over. You are thinking why is she giving so much to the word precedes, when the question pertains to the two scriptures. In this text of the lesson you can't really take hold of them until you understand the word precedes and the affect it has and place it takes in the Word of God. Clearly the Word of God goes before us, it is our amour. Paul wrote, in Eph 6:11 " Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." Reread the definitions here and you see that God set this up at the beginning of time so that in His plan of mankind we would be covered and protected, that we would see that He has supplied all we will ever need to overcome and just like Jesus quoted to the devil in the wilderness; "Thou shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God" "12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account." (4:12-13) Look at NT:3984 and NT:4008, both contain the word " pierce " and what does it say in verse 12, "it penetrates". It can't do this unless, we use God's word like a double- edged sword! In answer to all the questions here we had to understand the depth of what has been written here and to know that God takes care of us even in our sins. We are covered and forgiven as sins in our lives our exposed and we are covered and protected from sins not yet uncovered or happened into. The most important thing here we must learn is to renew our minds and to learn to walk with this sword in our hand. Put up that shield of faith and that sword of the spirit which is the word of God!
  4. Q3. (Hebrews 4:8-11) What do you think the writer of Hebrews means by this promise of "rest" for the believer? Why does the writer urge us: "Make every effort to enter that rest"? What is the difference between apostasy from Christ and the kind of falling into sin that all Christians experience from time to time? What do you think the writer of Hebrews means by this promise of "rest" for the believer? Looking at John 1:1-5 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. In light of these verses of scriptures we see that from the beginning of creation that Christ, the Son of the Living God was with the Father and that upon the creation of man God had already prepared a way of salvation for mankind. He knew man would fall because man was made of flesh and not spirit. In reading verse 3 and you compare it to the book of Ephesians we will see that In Him all things were started and ended In Him. Eph 1:3-14 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us accepted in the Beloved. 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace 8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, 9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth--in Him. 11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, 12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. 13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. So, we see that from the beginning of time to coming of Jesus to the promise of eternal life that God on the seventh day entered in to a Rest and just as we see and know Him to be Faithful in all He has done for mankind that we can be assured that He has made a way and covered every thing and that nothing has been left undo since the beginning of what we know as our time. Every provision needed under the sun has been taken care of since the sixth day of creation and this why scripture reads He is a God that never changes because He has set everything by His word, with His word and through His word. This is our promise of hope that He has been there from the beginning and will be there at the end of what we know of this world. That's the rest we rest into. Why does the writer urge us: "Make every effort to enter that rest"? Once again in reading above you see that we need Jesus, He is the only way to the salvation plan of God and we must do all we can not only to enter into this rest, but we must learn to stay in this rest. What is the difference between apostasy from Christ and the kind of falling into sin that all Christians experience from time to time? Apostasy is to turn totally away from Christ and to deny the cross and the eternal hope we have been given. To stop preaching the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ and to stop living a holy life after He has revealed Himself and deny Him. The falling into sin by some that have a heart that stays in a humble contrite way before the Lord and ask for forgiveness and turns from that sin is truly in a relationship with Him and He knows that we will from time to time sin but its the condition of the heart and how we love Him and worship Him and know that what Paul was talking about above that we must live in Him always.
  5. Q2. (Hebrews 3:12-14) What is the importance of faith in our relationship to Christ? How does sin trick us? How does it harden us? What is the value of Christian fellowship to keep our faith strong? What is the importance of faith in our relationship to Christ? Staying in relationship with Christ keeps us in our faith, that's the key to also staying in the household of the of God where our strength comes from in times of trials and where our blessings flow. Our faith is increased each time we go to the house of God and hear of His goodness or told how to win a battle with wisdom through a message. Let no one be fooled that all they need is a relationship to Christ, they also need to get into the right local church where the saints of God are, where we have fellowship with one another. Where wells of faith pour out when we need it. Just like the woman at the well when she met Jesus, she came into a relationship with Christ and drank from the well of faith that she needed to see how to change her life and move from a place of sin to a place of victory. satan's household is where she was living and now she has moved into the house of God. If she had not went to the well ( a place of faith) she would never of meet Christ, nor would she have known that she would be an open door for salvation of many. For in the household of God there are all types of people from all over the world and just like the woman at the well whom Jews were not allowed to talk to for she was consider a dog because of the place she lived and the race she was. The disciples thought Jesus was wrong to talk with her, so they turned there hearts from her and when they turned from her they turned from Jesus without understanding that at that moment of time they risk their relationship with Him and their hearts still had hard places within them. A lesson for us all to learn here and I am just seeing this come to light as I type this. A fresh word from God and a warning to us all. If you break relationship with the household of God, in time you will break relationship to Christ for you risk hardening you heart towards Him and towards the people of God. If you can't live with the people of God here on earth, then you can't live with them in heaven. This is what Paul states below: Eph 2:19-22 19 Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. How does sin trick us? First we must understand that sin is 1.) Actually a contradiction to the holiness of God, whose image mankind bears. 2.) Violation of the law of God in thought, word, and deed shows the sinfulness of the human heart. 3.) The moral depravity of mankind is total in that "the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be" So, in understanding these things we see that we are born with a sin nature and that coming in to relationship with Christ, that nature can be changed, our hearts can be changed, and we can overcome sin. Look above to the #2 and it will tell us how a sin is first introduced; in a thought, and at that thought the heart will cause us to say the right thing or the wrong thing ( for out of the heart flows the issues of life and that's because the heart is the central part of man). If we put that thought into words then those words produce life to the thought ( there is power in the tongue) and then the words become action words that produce the deeds (sin) Pride is the root to sin and the Proverbs states: "that pride comes before a fall" and so in not capturing every thought that is wrong, not setting a watch over our mouth, putting our feet to sin, once again we have gotten into a snare and then evil comes in and sin is occurred. Remember alway: " IT'S NOT THE devil THAT TRICKS US INTO SIN IT'S OUR THOUGHT PATTERN, THE WORDS THAT ARE ACTIVE IN OUR LIFE AND THE QUICK WORKS OF OUR HANDS AND FEET (DEEDS) How does it harden us? Our hearts are harden in sin and if we have not a repentive heart and our hearts are not towards pleasing God at all times then one sin will lead to another sin and before you know it we are back to the old man which in that old man dwells rebellion and in that rebellion that brings enmity towards God and we break fellowship with Him. Ps 95:8 "Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, As in the day of trial in the wilderness" What is the value of Christian fellowship to keep our faith strong? In the word value is the word time and in looking at the word time you can see the importance of this word and why it should be to us. VALUE time NT:5092 denotes "a valuing, a price, honor"; (from Vine's Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words, What I am seeing here is that; 1) Christ paid a price so we could be in fellowship with one another 2) That honor should always be shown to one another, for if we honor Him then we must honor one another 3) In that honor, respect comes and out of respect comes love and produces the faith we need for each other when times come that are hard or evil. NT:5092 time (tee-may'); from NT:5099; a value, i.e. money paid, or (concretely and collectively) valuables; by analogy, esteem (especially of the highest degree), or the dignity itself: KJV - honour, precious, price, some. We must take the time to place value on what not only has Christ done for us eternally, but what He does for us everyday and to take the time to minister one to another, love one another, and show that in all things be our brothers keeper. In the lesson we have a new look at the household of God and that is: CHRIST PAID A PRICE SO WE COULD BE IN THE HOUSEHOLD OF GOD AND THAT WE SHOULD HONOR ONE ANOTHER FOR THE TIME IS PRECIOUS AND THERE ARE SOME STILL OUT THERE THAT NEED TO BROUGHT IN OR BROUGHT BACK!
  6. Q1. (Hebrews 3:6b) Why is the writer exhorting his readers to "hold on" to Christ? Why must we continue in our faith? According the writer of Hebrews, what happens if we don't? Why is the writer exhorting his readers to "hold on" to Christ? We must maintain a bold and open profession of the truths of the gospel, upon which our hopes of grace and glory are built, and live upon and up to those hopes, so as to have a holy rejoicing in them, which shall abide firm to the end, notwithstanding all that we may meet with in so doing." So that we see there must not only be a setting out well in the ways of Christ, but a stedfastness and perseverance therein unto the end. Why must we continue in our faith? We have here a direction what those must do who would partake of the dignity and privileges of the household of Christ. 1.) We must take the truths of the gospel into our heads and hearts. 2.) We must build our hopes of happiness upon those truths. 3.) We must make an open profession of those truths. 4.) We must live so up to them as to keep our evidences clear, so that we may rejoice in hope, and then we must in all persevere to the end. According the writer of Hebrews, what happens if we don't? In a word, we must walk closely, consistently, courageously, and constantly, in the faith and practice of the gospel, that our Master, when He comes, may own and approve us.
  7. Q5. (Hebrews 2:16-18) Why in God's plan did Jesus have to become human like us? How does his humanity provide encouragement and help to us when we are in trouble? Why in God's plan did Jesus have to become human like us? How can you understand unless you have experienced, how can you fear unless you know fear, how can you resist temptation unless you have been tempted and how can you suffer death unless you have died. You cannot be a twin (man) unless made a twin (man)...... v- 17 "For this reason He had to be made like His brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that He might make atonement for the sins of the people. 18 Because He Himself suffered when He was tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted." How does His humanity provide encouragement and help to us when we are in trouble? Knowing that He bore all my sufferings and sorrows and that all I will ever have to do is call out His name and I will have the victory over what ever it is. He has seen to it that I have the perfect wisdom available and that in His leading, His has shown and made a way for me. I can come into a rest of faith and know that as long as I stay in a humble and repent able state that I will not face judgement and that all I have to do is ask and I will receive whatever I have need of and if I will only believe then the power of what satan has come against me with is broken, because Christ has broken it already for me. He was made like me so I could be made like Him, Praise Be To God and I will always be triumph!
  8. Q4. (Hebrews 2:14-15) What was the purpose of Christ's death according to verses 14 and 15? In what sense is this mission accomplished? In what sense will it see its final completion in the future? What is the result in our lives from Christ's accomplishment What was the purpose of Christ's death according to verses 14 and 15? 1) to destroy the devil 2) to free from the fear of death "Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death -- that is, the devil -- and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death." (2:14-15) In what sense is this mission accomplished? Seeing that Jesus is the Stronger One who has despoiled Satan and taken away his power. "And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross." (Colossians 2:15, NIV) In what sense will it see its final completion in the future? That satan will be the one judged and is the one who will be punished eternally. What is the result in our lives from Christ's accomplishment 1) That the power of satan has been broken 2) That our conscience has been freed, that we have a hope of a glorious life after death, not fear of judgment. "The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Corinthians 15:56-57)
  9. Q3. (Hebrews 2:10) What does it mean, to bring many sons and daughters "to glory"? In what sense did Jesus become "perfect" through suffering? What are the implications for our own lives? What does it mean, to bring many sons and daughters "to glory"? God the Father made the Lord Jesus Christ the captain of our salvation (that is, He consecrated, He appointed Him to that office, he gave Him a commission for it), and He made him a perfect captain: He had perfection of wisdom, and courage, and strength, by the Spirit of the Lord, which He had without measure; In what sense did Jesus become "perfect" through suffering? He was made perfect through sufferings; that is, He perfected the work of our redemption by shedding His blood, and was thereby perfectly qualified to be a Mediator between God and man. He found his way to the crown by the cross, and so must His people too. Being consecrated and perfected through suffering, has consecrated the way of suffering for all His followers to pass through unto glory; and hereby their sufferings are made necessary and unavoidable, they are hereby made honorable, useful, and profitable. What are the implications for our own lives? That in all things pertaining to Christ and our salvation the one thing that is en scripted on God's people is that He has come as perfect, He left as perfect and He reigns as perfect before God the Father and that we being sin are now made to look perfect as He is perfect because of His shed blood and in all that He came and succeeding in doing. He has made us to look the same as He looks to God the Father. We are co partners with Him now in all that God the Father has given to Him, He gives to all who will believe and become followers of the cross. This is interesting to understand in the sense of the word implications; Function: noun Pronunciation: "im-pl&-'kA-sh&n 1 a : the act of implicating : the state of being implicated b : close connection ; especially : an incriminating involvement 2 a : the act of implying : the state of being implied b (1) : a logical relation between two propositions that fails to hold only if the first is true and the second is false (2) : a logical relationship between two propositions in which if the first is true the second is true (3) : a statement exhibiting a relation of implication 3 : something implied: as a : SUGGESTION b : a possible significance <the book has political implications>
  10. Q2. (Hebrews 2:9) In what way did Christ "taste death for everyone"? Why is this so dependent upon God's grace? If Christ died for your blackest and most stubborn sins, what are the implications for you? In what way did Christ "taste death for everyone"? Again, as I said in Q1, there is no better way to say it than this in Isa. 53:3-11 3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. 6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. 8 By oppression [a] and judgment he was taken away. And who can speak of his descendants? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was stricken. 9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. 10 Yet it was the LORD's will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes [c] his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand. 11 After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life [d] and be satisfied [e] ; by his knowledge [f] my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities. Why is this so dependent upon God's grace? We must see it as Paul saw it, take it to heart as he did and see that in all things we must be dependent on the grace of God. That in the end of things we are redeem by the blood of Christ and only in that blood shall we dwell with the riches of His grace. Eph 1:3-8 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us accepted in the Beloved. 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace. If Christ died for your blackest and most stubborn sins, what are the implications for you? Forgiven, Col 2:12-14 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Accepted by my Heavenly Father Eph 1:5-7 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us accepted in the Beloved. Released from the fear of death. Heb 2:14-15 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
  11. Q1. (Hebrews 2:9) In what ways did Jesus suffer during his life and death? In what ways are we likely to suffer? Does suffering have any value? What happens when we live in such a way to avoid all suffering? In what ways did Jesus suffer during his life and death? Isa. 53: 3-11 say's it all; I could not express it any better, let the word define it for us! 3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. In what ways are we likely to suffer? If you reread the above again and put your self in His place, you will see that in many ways you have suffered in the same ways. For this is why He came, to bore all we would face in life and to get man back into the will of the Heavenly Father. Does suffering have any value? Again, let the word speak for itself and let us find wisdom in this as Christ did. For this is what we are to prefect in ourselves as He did with working love towards our Heavenly Father and our brethren just as He has, while suffering for others and by others we strive to grow in love and strive to stay in love with our Heavenly Father and our brethren while we are suffering in the things of life and by the things of the devil. The one thing we have to defeat is blame and anger at the sufferings of this life and at the sufferings of anger, accusations, and envy of others. Finger pointing towards God and man brings the many sins of life, we must strive to love and this is what this scripture is saying to us and Christ understood. 5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. What happens when we live in such a way to avoid all suffering? That we have this hope and promise and the greatest reward and that's being in the Heavenly Father's will, serving our Lord Christ. Col.3:24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.
  12. Q3. (Hebrews 2:1) In what ways are we not immune to drifting away from the gospel? According to the author, how can we successfully resist the tendency to drift? How did Jesus describe this phenomenon of "drift" in the Parable of the Sower? In what ways are we not immune to drifting away from the gospel? We are first born of the flesh, living in the flesh and one day dying in the flesh. It wasn't until we became borne again of the spirit that we understood the gospel and because we still live with the flesh and the spirit we are always warring with ourselves. If we find that the lusts of the flesh has once again gained power over the things of the spirit then we find our hearts have harden to the things of God and our heart grow cold towards Him and the love we once felt for Him and His ways have become dim and the darkness sets back in and no longer is the light of the word or Him shown in us or through us. According to the author, how can we successfully resist the tendency to drift? I think that this verse directly should speak to us all and instruction is at our door. What else could be said here...... PAY ATTENTION....... "We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away." (2:1) "Pay ... attention" (NIV, NRSV), "give ... heed" (KJV) is prosechō, "to turn the mind to, attend to, be attentive" ... "to apply oneself to something, turn to, occupy oneself with a thing." We are fully responsible for what we have heard. We cannot just drop it and move to something else as if the gospel's commands were merely human opinions. How did Jesus describe this phenomenon of "drift" in the Parable of the Sower? Ones that have heard and didn't "PAY ATTENTION" to what they have hear will fall to the way side. Who is He addressing in the parable? ME......, YOU....... ANYONE THAT HAS HEARD THE GOSPEL AND WAS ONCE ROOTED AND GROUNDED IN THE WORD, LIVING AND WALKING IT OUT. Christ would not be talking to the unsaved or the new convert for the lack of knowledge is there so mercy is given, but to the one that had ruled and reign with Him in heavenly places. He is warning of a sin that has taken root in our lives and we refuse to turn and repent we have openly said, to the Father we are staying here, we 're not leaving this place, then that's where we are left until we repent and turn. We may be pluck right out of the Kingdom of Heaven and no one to accuse but ourselves. It is not once saved always saved and this is the warning of drifting away. There is a unknowing sin, there is a mishap sin and a quickness to repent and all of these the Father looks at and sees to it that truth comes in, grace is given and mercy is shown. But willful sin and refusal to repent and turn from that sin is rebellion to Him and in this there is judgement into which there is no forgiveness and the door to heaven that was open is now shut to one who once believed that Jesus was Lord over their life, but now has taken their own throne and made themselves a god. Proverbs 22:5 Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse; He who guards his soul will be far from them.

  14. Q4. (Hebrews 2:3b-4) In what way has the truth of salvation been confirmed to you? Would signs and wonders help or hinder establishing the truth of Christ's ministry today? From which portion of the Bible have you formed your opinion of the value of signs and wonders today? "This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed 23 to us by those who heard him. God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will." (2:3b-4) This verse of scripture is the truth of the way salvation came to me as a child and then as an adult. Jesus came to me as a small child in visions and dreams. He would talk with me at the altar at church and at times in my heart evening playing with other children in leading me through paths of right and wrong. He was very real to me as a child, but as I got older and the cares of this world began to appear and forces of the unknown at the times directed my steps, the relationship I had with Jesus fades in my life and in my heart and yet at times I would feel the pull or drawing of Him. As I continued down the path of life, His faithfulness and loving-kindness would come again one day, at the right time and place of my life, we once again joined hearts and hands and understanding of what the cross really was for me and for my eternal life too come. If the word had been rooted and grounded in me as a child and understanding of the truth of salvation had been there, then the drifting away may have not of happened the way it did. I knew Him and I knew His voice and I knew His touch, but I didn't know or understand His salvation plan for me. It is so important that the Church of Jesus Christ teach our children and youth this one thing about Jesus and that's His salvation plan and not that He was born on Christmas and die and rose again on Easter. What happens in between Christmas and Easter and why do we need to know this and where is He now and how do we keep our salvation and stay in relationship to Him and why righteousness is so important to us and how repentance is not something we just say but something we live. (Deuteronomy 4:9) Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself, lest you forget the things your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. And teach them to your children and your grandchildren, ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Would signs and wonders help or hinder establishing the truth of Christ's ministry today? From which portion of the Bible have you formed your opinion of the value of signs and wonders today? Signs (sēmeion), "an event that is an indication or confirmation of intervention by transcendent powers, miracle, portent."24 Wonders (teras), "something that astounds because of transcendent association, prodigy portent, omen, wonder."25 Miracles (dunamis), "a deed that exhibits the ability to function powerfully, deed of power, miracle, wonder."26 Note that these are described as "various" or "diverse," not just one type of miracle but miracles of various kinds. Gifts (literally distributions, merismos27) of the Holy Spirit. These miracles and works of power are recognized to be given by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12; Ephesians 4:11; etc.). Everyone of these are as real today and never have they stopped they have been here from Gen. 1 and will be for eternity. The God we serve has always been and will always be a God of every one of these. Read these again and then start with Gen. 1 and go through the ages of time until now and look to future as what the written word reveals and forever will we see these things. As a new Christian we begin to understand and recognized them, but as a season Christian we should know and understand that we are blessed to live with them in our lives everyday and to know that for always our God will work these for us everyday and for now on threw eternity. These things are part of who He is, these are parts of the Character of God. To the world and new converts they are signs and wonders, to the Body of Christ they should be known as His love and His teaching His children in the way they should go so they will never depart, and that they will have the power in their lives to pass it on too their children and children's children. Everyday we have the power to create a new world for them and for others and everyday we have the knowledge and power to heal and create miracles. You may ask, why all this about children? Because Jesus came as a child, He learned as a child, He taught while as a child. We see Him as a living example that a child can be taught the word of God all the days of their lives and can even themselfves become teachers of the word to others even to adults as He did and how if kept under the leadership of the parents and church they may never depart and live a life that will bring many to the truth of salvation. (Matthew 19:14) But Jesus said,
  15. Q2. (Hebrews 1:2-3) What about the author's description of the Son makes you think that the Son described is himself divine? What role does the Son have in doing the Father's will according to these verses? He has taken on the role of the Son Of Man and in that role there is a Son-ship. He has then made us joint heirs with Him and in that we too are seated at the His right hand. He has also made us to be in the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins and now the Father can look at us through His Son and we too are made in His likeness and in us with humble hearts working in His image and righteousness,we are purged of sin, becoming pure before our Heavenly Father. In this role He has become our Advocate, interceding for us always and remembering what it is to live as a nature man, the power of sin, the work of the enemy, and how grace is needed, mercy required so that at such a time sin is less and righteousness is ruling. In this role as well He keeps us in covenant with the Father a Blood covenant and this is the only way to the Father is through the Blood of Jesus. We can speak His name, but without the recognition of the cross and the blood that was shed, His name is only a name and there is no divinity, there is no power and there is no covenant connection which links us to His Father as family or joint- heirs. We must see Him in this Son ship role in order to receive eternal life. Without this acknowledgement there is no remission of sin, there will be no seat available in heaven and a with staying of His magnificent hand in our lives.
  16. He did not call upon the host of heaven because He came so He might die for all mankind and He being God in the flesh knew that they had the ability to save Him. Here again He laid down His life for us so we might be saved. When He calls all of heaven mounts upon war horses and joins Him in the fight to rescue those that belong to Him and the Heavenly Father. Tell me if anyone else but the Son of the Living God would do that and what other god has an army that can wirh stand His army, there is done because He rules the universe.
  17. The difference was one could see into the spiritual realm and had no relationship with the One who protects. The difference between the two men was that Elisha knew they were safe because he knew the Lord of Host and the heavenly army was at hand to destroy his enemy and the servant had no relationship with this Lord only the one he served in the natural. It takes the Lord to open our spiritual eyes to see the things in the spirit world and that he is supreme over all things in heaven and earth. He had seen Elisha's relationship with this God but he must of thought that it was only Elisha that could serve Him because I'm sure he had his native gods he served and that it took faith for him to see the Armies of Host out there and many times he looked and each time his heart opened a little more until he saw with the eyes of faith. Another one borne to God's salvation and he must of seen the Lord of Host, the Captain, the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. Knowing the Lord Jesus Christ as my defender that He is alive and not a stone or tree something that is dead and something that is cold and gives no hope for the future. That has no one to guide me into the ways I should go that only gives false hopes and false words and want me to die instead of live. Just like Elisha's servant I couldn't see with out faith and the opening of my heart to see Jesus and the world the Heavenly Father has for us to see. It takes a real relationship with Him to see into His world. I had not seen Him or things in heaven until I came into a true relationship with Him and the Holy Spirit opened my eyes to see. Just like Elisha we all can see if we desire to see and we all know Him as He knew Him if we learn who He really is and that truly we have a promise that no matter where we find ourself in life He is there to protect us and give us the strenght we need to overcome our enemies and battles. If God be for us who can be against us?
  18. His reply of neither indicates that this was the pre incarnated Son of God the Lord Jesus Christ the coming Deliver of man kind and that His reply of neither tells us that His battles are not with flesh and blood but with the enemies to the host of heaven. (Eph 6) and (Gen 3). Even here all of Heaven is at war with satan and his demons the ones behind the king and his people that Joshua is about to encounter. Whenever there is war in the world there is world in the heavens for it starts first in the spiritual and its always to liberate mankind. So God plans for them to have the land they had to encounter their enemy here and Christ the Anointed on of God, captain of the Armies of the Lord and the Lord of Host was waging war in the heavens. Joshua had come to understand this and this is why he ask, are you for us or are you against us? The request for Joshua to remove His shoes was to see if he would humble himself in the presence of God and to understand that the war in heaven had been won and that the war for this land will be won and to take it. That if God be for them who could be against them. The promise that was made to Joshua was once again confirmed that where ever he put his foot the land was his to take. And the appearance of God Himself assured Joshua of this. The act of bowing is the act of humility and the acknowledgement of there is only one True Living God and without Him we are defeated in everything we do at some point we will fail even if it doesn't look like it cause its the different's in our salvation and where we will spend eternity. So, Joshua felt very humble but yet very brave because all of the Armies of with him.
  19. 2 Cor 3:18 18And all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor and from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit. First of all isn't this what Abraham seen in the face of Melchizedek? The unveiled face of God, the Son of God and the Word of God and did he see his own face within the face of God though Melchizedek. This meeting between to two I see as the same as when we came face to face with Jesus as we confessed him as Lord and saw the face of God and knew that to get to know that Jesus is the Glory of our Heavenly Father. That we when we enter into His presence with true worship and pure heart that He the manifested presence of the glory of God our Heavenly Father degrees to us " Who is like Me there is none other and who can redeem your soul No Other and who loves you with an everlasting love.. No Other ( another name for Him ) who is more beautiful in all glory.. No Other As I sit here in His presence and as you read this His glory is manifested in our connection as one with the Father,Son and the Holy Spirit and all heaven. Our hope Glory and knowing we are being made into His image in ever increasing splendor and going from one degree of glory to another that only comes from the Lord (Who Is) the Spirit.
  20. That all honor belongs to Him and Him alone and that humility is what He looks for in our lives. In order for us to worship Him in spirit and truth we much come humblely in His presence and no pride can abide in our hearts and that's why unforgiveness can't be in our prayers because the only one that has a right to be lofty is He the Most High God the one that was sending His Son to redeem us and this is what Abraham saw in his understanding that he was going to need a Savior and he was a sinner that he needed redemption, and now we see we need a Savior and we are a sinner and we need redemption. We're all connected together with Him and we all need Jesus and without Him we have no redemption and no pride will get us in the presence of the High and Lofty One.
  21. Without question it will make my worship more enlighten of whom my Heavenly Father is and at night when the stars are out and bright that He is the Maker of all things and as Abraham saw as he gazed the stars that who could ever image anything else. To see in the future his path and to know that God is true to His word, and eternity belongs Him. Even now inside my own spirit I can see the heavens and the earth the same one Abraham saw and to know He truly is the same yesterday today and forever.
  22. The theme to this text appears to be that both are acknowledging that the Most High God is the Creator of all heaven and earth and that there is none like Him. That He is above all others and that He protects, He supplies, and that only death belongs to Him. That no man, no circumstance and no other god can take life away that every living thing in heaven on earth is in His hands. This is also what Jesus was speaking of to the disciples when He was teaching them to pray because just like Abraham they were coming from a back ground of not understanding the Most High God their creator and to them Abraham was their father the father of many nations they had a relationship with him and not the Most High God the one to whom life belongs. Its something to think about here Abram only knew about other gods and the disciples knew more of Abraham as a father then their Heavenly Father. All had to have a name change in order to disconnect them from their past and history of their earthly family and took on the name their Creator have given them because they now belonged to the Heavenly family. We learn His names and we get a new name like Peter did and did you notice that Melchizedek brought out bread and wine to Abraham? Communion they both shared this is my body (Jesus) and this is my blood (Jesus) the coming King, the Most High Priest so Abraham communed with God and this is where he had to of gotten revelation of Jesus the Son of the Most High God. So much to say on this....
