  1. To lead her into reflection of her actions. She sends her back because God has not finished with the situation/relationship. Every time I over-react I take myself away from the place God wants me - and I know it as I'm doing it. It's one of the clay parts of me that is being molded (and re-molded). We'll get it right eventually.
  2. It is a reflection of her joy and her amazement in realizing how much God cares. It is the same joy and amazement that will eliminate discouragement and encourage hope.
  3. When things don't go right, we often look for someone to blame. Sarah is doing just that. She's hurt and angry about something she can't change so it must be someone else's fault. Feelings get hurt in these situations. I doubt people felt much differently then and it could be that maybe Abraham should have told Sarah no when she gave him her servant. Taking into account the different cultures of that time, he should have at least made sure that Hagar understood that Sarah's position with him did not change - instead he basically turned his back on the whole situation.
  4. Because we will be with Christ as God restores us to his original intent. I wasn't aware that Christians have largely lost this as their active expectation and hope.
  5. Our resurrection bodies will be like Jesus' resurrection body - flesh and bones, able to eat, be touched, walk, talk, be recognized, enter locked doors, disappear and appear at will, incorruptible, glorified, powerful, and able to navigate in the spiritual realm - for the new heaven and new earth.
  6. It tell us that we were set free when Christ paid the price. 1 Corinthians describes our resurrection bodies as raised imperishable, in glory and power and as a spiritual body.
  7. They will be with Christ. Before death, here. After death, with God.
  8. Resurrection. The sequence is Christ's return, resurrection, judgment and entering into glory.
  9. The attitude that should underlie our corporate singing is praise, love, and thankfulness. It helps us by bringing us together and lifting us up. Singing is a way to worship God - it brings us close to Him, it communicates to Him, it lifts us up, it brings joy, it puts us closer to God.
  10. The temptation is a mind altering high that relaxes spirit and body. They relax the spirit but they don't give the "high" of the Spirit - nothing comes close to that. Being filled with the Spirit helps us fend off the temptations by filling us with a joy that cannot be matched by any substitute.
  11. Because we only get so many chances to make a difference or an impact on someone's life. We resist out of fear of condemnation or rejection. To be ready we must have God's word filling our heart and mind and we must live in the light and set an example.
  12. He warns strongly about sexual sin because it can keep us from heaven, from eternity with Jesus. Sexuality is part of us as God created us, and as such is part of our spiritual life. Our sexuality is more than just gender or sex - it is the part of us that is shared only with a spouse. It is the deepest and most caring part of the union between two people joined together before God and cannot be separated from our spiritual life.
  13. Among other things, the annointing of oil is a symbol of the presence of the Holy Spirit. The elders' prayer of faith is what affects the healing and should be administered to body, soul, and spirit. Confession of sins is important because we must first admit to the sin before it can be forgiven. Denial is easy, rationalization is easy - confession takes courage, not only in admitting the sin, but in the commitment to change.
  14. The elders' role is to pray with faith. They must pray with boldness, believing in healing and miracles, trusting in God and His word.
  15. The person who needs healing is to call on the elders of the church to pray. The sick person shows their faith in the asking for prayer, the elders show their faith in the prayer for healing.
  16. God went through the covenant ritual with Abraham to bind himself solemnly to his promise. He was making a unilateral pledge to Abraham. Abraham believed Him. God has promised to always be with us. He has promised that he has a plan for us. He has promised us eternal life. The significance of the blood sacrifice is the death and resurrection of Jesus.
  17. I have been frustrated by unanswered prayer....or, more accurately, not yet answered prayer. I know that all things must be in God's time. I also know that others must follow their own path and make their own journey, covering each necessary step (and sometimes that means that their sin must first reach it's full measure) before God does what is necessary to lead that person back to Him. When that happens, my prayers will be answered - in God's time.
  18. God declares Abraham righteous because of his faith. It shows us that faith is the key element in God's accounting of righteousness to us.
  19. God is my shield and my protector. When all else fails me, he never does. He is always there to help, protect, lead, and council me. He promises me a great reward - to me that refers to everlasting life in heaven with my Lord.
  20. Being steadfast and immovable in the work of the Lord - His work - on the solid hope of the resurrection. Our labor is not in vain because it is His work, not ours.
  21. We have the assurances of God's promise. Jesus was the first and we will follow - he opens up the way for the rest of us..
  22. We were....buried with him through baptism into death....just as Christ was raised from the dead.....we will certainly be united with him in his resurrection. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms - where we share his power and privileges.
  23. Christ's resurrection is assurance or proof that God has completed our salvation. Our salvation is made possible through Jesus' sacrifice and because he was raised from the dead.
  24. Jesus rising from the dead is what gives Christianity it's credibility. The resurrection is God's seal of approval by being his declaration that Jesus is the son of God and will someday judge the world.
