  1. Q2. (Hebrews 8:7-13) Why did the Old Covenant fail? Heb 7:28 Moses' Teachings designated mortals as chief priests even though they had weaknesses. But God's promise, which came after Moses' Teachings, designated the Son who forever accomplished everything that God required. There is not one passage in either the New or Old Testament that indicated God's gift of eternal life was ever by keeping the law perfectly. The law of God is the total substance and description of the complete righteousness of God. By the law is the knowledge of sin, salvation has always been by God's grace. What are the primary promises of the New Covenant as prophesied in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Because mankind transgressed God's Holy Law, it was for this reason the Almighty sent forth His Son, condemned sin and paid the debt. Rom 8:1-3 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in union with Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to deal with sin. He condemned sin in the flesh. Christ Jesus didn't come to give us freedom from God's law, but through Him we have freedom from the evil nature and its power over us. God's law will be written on the hearts and mind of the house of Israel and to the Gentile believers brought into the covenant of Abraham, an everlasting covenant. Rom 8:4 so that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Rom 8:7 That is why the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile toward God. For it refuses to submit to the authority of God's law because it is powerless to do so.
  2. Q1. (Hebrews 8:6) In what sense is Jesus the "mediator" of a new covenant? Christ Jesus priesthood is higher than the Levitical priesthood. Jesus is the only priest allowed to sit at God's right hand, He is the only priest that can bring our petitions to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He is mediator of a better covenant, with better promises, fulfilling the spiritual redemption promised in the Abrahamic and Davidic covenants. What did he do to mediate this? Christ Jesus's gift and sacrifice was not of goats and bulls but of His own blood, rendered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption to those who eagerly wait for Him, He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation. He is mediator of a new (fresh) covenant that has power to put God's laws in our mind and write them on our hearts.
  3. Q4. (Hebrews 7:26-28) How is Jesus described in verse 26? Jesus is holy (divine character) - harmless ( without sin), undefiled (innocent), separate from sinners (devoted to the Father) - made higher than the heavens ( more exalted than all the angels or of all created beings, whether thrones, dominions, principalities, or powers). How does Jesus differ from human high priests? Jesus is holy, a human high priest is unholy. Jesus offered himself up as a sacrifice for sin, once for all. The "unholy" human high priest had to offer a sacrifice annully for himself first, before he could for others. Jesus is harmless, the human high priest is harmful to himself as well as to others. Jesus is undefiled, innocent of anything wicked, or evil, the human high priest is "defiled", wicked with sin. Jesus is separate from sinners, mankind is joined to sinners. Jesus is higher than the heavens, the human high priest is base, unworthy to be called a priest to God, this is why he must offer a sacrifice for himself first. What about Jesus' role as High Priest gives you special confidence? Jesus accomplished all that was required to be a High Priest unto God the Father, therefore bringing to completion His role in bringing salvation to all who believe in Him and authority to speak to the Father on our behalf.
  4. Q3. (Hebrews 7:24-25) Why is Jesus able to save people "completely" -- "to the uttermost" according to verse 25? We are saved completely because of the blood that was poured out for all who believe, not the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, Jesus entered once for all into the Holy of Holies, having procured everlasting redemption. To the "uttermost" because His is an eternal priesthood, for He lives forever. What is the essential function of a priest? A priest represents the people before God, leading the people to confess their sins. They act as mediator between man and God. Why is intercession the essence of being a priest? 1Ti 2:5 For God is one, also there is one Mediator of God and of men, the Man Christ Jesus. Jesus being fully God, can represent God to man, and at the same time, being fully man, can represent man to God. Our prayers are presented to God through Jeusus, our High PRIEST OVER THE HOUSE OF GOD.
  5. Q1. (Hebrews 6:18b-20) In what sense have we "fled to a place of refuge"? To flee to refuge is not just to flee, with no place to find refuge from sin that brings us to death; But we have a place, a person, where we can flee to, God's Word and Jesus, He is our true refuge. Why are we to "take hold of" this hope actively? There is a place we can find refuge, but we must "first" seize it, retain it. It is by our faith that we seize it, we "take hold" actively with our will, we actively choose to "take hold" of the refuge God has given to us. How does Christian hope differ from hoping that something is true? Our hope is in something "true" - We have the word of God telling us - this hope we have in Christ Jesus is true, we can stand strong on this "hope". In what ways does an anchor illustrate the idea of hope? We are anchored in the steadfast Word of God, our anchor is strong. Our hope, (our faith) is keeping us anchored, when the storms of life come our way, we know we have a strong, secure anchor, and this anchor will keep us safe. We are holding fast! The anchor is our hope in time of need. If we were to let go of this hope, we would drift out into the storm, tossed to and thro, but we have actively seized it, we have layed hold to the anchor, our confidence is sure, for Jeus is our anchor, God's word is true!
  6. Q4. (Hebrews 6:12) If we take seriously the writer's exhortation to exercise both faith and patience for the long haul, what effect does that have on our Christian life? I will not take for granted my salvation, I will be diligent walking in faith. I will be on guard and I will not be lazy. I will be alert, and I must practice patience, for when testing and trials come, I will be prepared and will remain faithful to God. I will let love guide my way, helping others when in need. There are many that came before me that persevered and are called friends of God. I want to be called a friend of God. How can we resist the subtle temptation to think that our salvation depends upon our endurance rather than Christ's atonement and the grace of God? It is because of our salvation that we can endure to the end!! We have Christ and the Holy Spirit to help us make it to the end. We also have our part of the covenant to keep and one part is, not to be lazy, not to take for granted what Christ did for us. Those saved by grace have a work to do, it is important we be diligent, alert, so we stay in faith; So read and study the word, practice the word. Why do we have to endure to the end? Because Satan is out to destroy us, he is out to take our faith away-just as he did in the Garden. Our faith in God is worth it all, how can we lose with the Three in One to help us. Oh Yes, God tells us to be on watch! keep on keeping on, thats good enough for me.
  7. Q3. (Hebrews 6:4-6) What is apostasy? Apostasy is falling away from the faith that Jesus is the Son of God and by His blood we are washed clean. Apostasy is one's willful rejection of Christ. A person cannot fall away to apostasy if they never believed, a person who never believed in the Lord Jesus cannot commit apostasy, for they never had something to fall away from. Why is it impossible from a practical standpoint to restore apostates to Christian faith and practice? The reason it is impossible is because the person has made his choice, and when a person willfully chooses to denounce the work of the cross, they can no longer go into the presence of God. It is their choice that makes it impossible, not God's choice. God never takes our will, our choice away from us; There is one who works hard at that, and it is Satan. While we are still living in the world, we must understand - Satan is out to kill and destroy our faith in the Lord Jesus, by whom we can go boldly to Father God. What point was Jesus making in his Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23)? When the disciples asked why Jesus spoke to them in parables, Jesus answer was - to the one who receives and responds is the one who will grow and understand, but the one who does not respond, even if they have some understanding, it will just drift away. The parable is of the seed, the word, it has been sown into 4 kinds of soil. The first soil was the wayside, a path that has been trodden on and became hard, what kind of hearts do we have? When we hear the word, are our hearts hard and the word makes no sense, we just don't want to hear it, so it is taken away? the second was rocky with a little soil, the word sprung up and because it had little soil, when the heat of the day came, (trials or problems), unbelief also came as they begin to understand-there is a price, we must take up our cross, they are offended by this, so the seed drifted and withered away, never having a chance to grow and mature. The third soil is infested with thorns (world) that choke the growth as it starts to sprout up. The fourth soil is good soil, soil that produces bunches, and bunches, and bunches, of fruit, for the soil is good soil. What kind of fruit? Romans 1:13 soul winning - Romans 6:22 Holiness - Romans 15:28 Financial giving - Galations 5:22, 23 Fruit of the Spirit as love, brings joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance. - Colossains 1:10 Hoof eotks - Hebrews 13:15 Praise. What is Jesus' point of the Parable of the Tares or Weeds (Matthew 13:24-30)? At first it is exciting as we go into praise and we go to bible study, but along the way if we are not careful, if we do not continue to cultivate that seed, the weeds begin to choke the joy found in the Lord out of our lives, until there is no longer any more growth, or maturing, leaving in its place the false joy of the world - the thorns(pleasure of the world) have choked the growth, stopped it from growing and bearing fruit!
  8. Q2. (Hebrews 6:4-5) What difference, if any, would you find between the description in verses 4-5 and a Spirit-filled Christian today? What is the writer's point in forming this description? Heb 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, Heb 6:5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, Heb 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. I don't see a difference between the Spirit filled Christian in verses 4-5 and a Spirit Filled Christian of today. The warning is the same today as it was then! To fall away, to apostatize, to willfully reject Christ and His teachings, is very serious indeed!! This is why we are not to drift away from such a great salvation, yesterday or today! Those hearing this word in verses 4-5 were going through trials for their faith in christ and some of them were priests ---- (Act. 6:7) And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith. Some were showing a drifting away, hanging onto some of the old laws. If they at one time believed what angels said to Moses, how much more should they, and we today, trust and believe what the Son as spoken to us in these last days?! We must hold onto the anchor of redemption, if we go back, we will be facing the punishment of disobedience from God, the I Am that I Am, the Almighty. Take heed of what could happen today! If we turn from God's Word, there are no more sacrifices for us, no more good deeds we can do, Christ is the final sacrifice, once and for all, received through our faith. I don't know about you, but when the word gives me a warning, I take note of it! I see the importance of this awesome gift of salvation from God, to little me, I also understand by reading the word, that I have my part to do in the covenant with God. God wants my love, and how do I show it? I first love the Son by trusting in Him, and the work He did on the cross, and I try serving them, by keeping His commandments. This is the same yesterday, as it is today. God wants our obedience and to put our trust in Him. He gave us a way to do it; Because of our faith in The Son, He gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit, and He gave us His Word to live by. I am taking heed to this word!
  9. Q1. (Hebrews 5:14) How does a person become mature in God's Word according to verse 14? What can you do to grow in maturity? Heb 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. Heb 5:13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. Heb 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. For us to mature we must be steadefast in our faith, be nourished by the word, and practice what the word is teaching us! The word is a light unto our path, a way of fellowshipping with the Almighty God. The Holy Spirit is our teacher and as we study God's word, the Holy Spirit will help us to see, to hear and understand, what God is telling us. Now that we are coming to know the wisdom of the word, we are to do it, be obedient, and than we will be on our way to maturity. Our Saviour Jesus, loved righteousness, and hated iniquity ( Heb 1:9 ) . We are called to be a light to the world, and we cannot be that light if we cannot discern good from evil. If we are still feeding on milk, never growing up in the Lord, we will find our selves drifting away, needing to have the word explained again to us, to teach us what the word means. (Eph 4:14 ) That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive. I see how important it is to grow up!!
  10. Q5. (Hebrews 5:9) In verse 9, what does "made perfect" refer to, since it obviously isn't talking about Jesus' moral growth and perfection? (Hint: The word teleioō means "bring something to its goal or accomplishment.") Perfection was completed by His suffering and becoming our High Priest. His obedience brought Him to the cross, bringing to fulfillment the work Jesus came to do.
  11. Q4. (Hebrews 5:8) In what sense did Jesus "learn obedience from what he suffered"? Christ suffered as man, what He learned from this suffering brought Him to a complete understanding of physical pain, emotional pain, and the pain felt as He experienced the various painful siturations mankind is faced with. His obedience to the Father included suffering, even His suffering on the cross, the suffering He felt as the Father turned from Him when He became sin, and died, bringing God's mercy and grace to mankind. Jesus came as a suffering servant, making Him our perfect High Priest. It is because of what He learned, experienced, through His obedience, that He can speak on our behalf, and the Father will listen. How did Jesus' learning process differ from ours, since he didn't sin and suffer the consequences of his sin -- the way we usually learn? Jesus did not sin, but He did learn first hand how lost mankind is because of the consequences sin brings, and the suffering of mankind as they are separated from the Father's mercy and grace, separated from His presence. Jesus had the Holy Spirit to help Him overcome, showing the importance for mankind to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Yes, it was worth it all for Jesus to suffer, to be our Faithful High Priest, for mankind is in need of this love. Mankind is in need of the power of the Holy Spirit.
  12. Q3. (Hebrews 4:16) Why should we approach the "throne of grace" with boldness and confidence? We can come boldly because God tells us we can! This is a fresh, a new covenant, with better promises. In the old covenant, only the high priest could come into the Holy place, and he did it with fear and trembling. We are to come to God's throne, as long as our hearts are filled with faith, faith in our Redeemer - Jesus. The new covenant is superior, it is based on our putting our trust in Jesus, resting in Him. What are the promises contained in this verse? Mercy is promised. God's mercy shown in His providing and His offering to mankind salvation by Christ, He blesses true Christians with eternal life. Mercy is the pardon of sin. Thank you for your mercy, this great favor from you Father God, seen in your Son! I come not only boldly, but with a thankful heart. Grace is promised. It is God's joy upon our lives, He is so pleased to show us His favor, for we have come to love His gift to us, His Son and the Holy Spirit. We believers are so forunate! we did not come to find joy in a religion, we believers have come to find mercy and grace, a relationship with the Almighty God; this mercy and grace we received because of our Redeemer, who is sitting at the right hand of God Almighty. On what basis is God able to offer us unrestrained mercy and grace for our sins while still retaining his justice as judge? God's mercy and grace is based on our putting our trust in Jesus, His Son. Let the fruit of God's love and mercy be seen to others as a witness of His saving grace and power. We must stay true to what we confess. To believe on Jesus is believing in Him and His teachings. We must not trample on this gift of mercy and grace. It is not a license for us to continue in our sin. Treasure this favor from God, let His grace continue to live in our lives, changing us daily. When we come to the throne, we come through the blood of Christ that washed us clean. This is what the Father sees, we have been washed by the blood. Come with a thankful heart, for God loved us so much He sent His only Son, so we can come boldly to His throne of grace. What an awesome God is He!
  13. Q2. (Hebrews 4:15) In what ways did Jesus share our weaknesses? Jesus as man was hungry, thirsty, He had to rest, became tired. In what ways was Jesus' tempted? Do we have any temptations he didn't have? Jesus was tempted, tested, in all points as we are. Luk 4:1 Now Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness. Luk 4:2 For forty wilderness days and nights he was tested by the Devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when the time was up he was hungry. Luk 4:3 The Devil, playing on his hunger, gave the first test: "Since you're God's Son, command this stone to turn into a loaf of bread." Luk 4:4 Jesus answered by quoting Deuteronomy: "It takes more than bread to really live." Jesus as man was full of the Holy Spirit, if we are to overcome, we must be full of the Holy Spirit. Jesus's weapon was also the word of God, this is why it is most important we be in the word, we study the word; So we too can stand on God's word when Satan comes to tempt us with his lies, and comdemnation. We can be bold, for we are partakers of Christ, our High Priest! Because we know he didn't sin, were his temptations easier or more difficult than ours? Jesus was tempted just as we are tempted!! 1 John 2:15-16 Satan temps with the **** of the flesh, **** of the eyes, and the pride of life. Jesus passed the tests on all counts. Satan is ruler of this world, this is why we are not to love the world, neither the things that are in the world. We are to love the Lord God with all our hearts. Jesus came to do the will of the Father, we too are called to do the will of the Father, to love Him with all our hearts, saying,"if you love Me keep My commandments." Do not give Satan a foothold, stand strong on the word, be full of the Holy Spirit, knowing that Jesus understands our weaknesses, He is full of compassion for us, especially in those times we are put to the test and yet fail. Jesus does not bring condemnation to the Father, as does Satan. God's last words to the church as seen in Revelation is to "Repent." When we fail, we have the word that cuts to the point, bringing us to repent, set the heart of stone on the altar and ask that it be made soft, for we are brought into the covenant of God, by the blood of the Lamb; How awesome is that? Why does it comfort us that he can sympathize with our temptations and weaknesses? It comforts me knowing, Jesus is speaking on my behalf to the Father and the Father listens as Jesus shares His compassion for us. We have been born with this sin nature, that originated in the Garden, when Satan tested Adam and Eve. Because of this sin nature, I must also do my part, put on the full armour of God, so I can fight off Satan when he comes to test, I have been given this armour to put on through the power of the cross! Jesus is there, full of compassion saying, "I am not finished with her yet" My comfort is in knowing - I am in His care! He calls me friend.
  14. Q1. (Hebrews 4:14) What is so important about "holding fast to our confession." It is important we hold fast to our confession so we may go boldly to the throne of grace and mercy. Holding fast is using all our strength, our faith, seizing it, knowing that we know, and with that grounding we go boldly to the throne of God. What is our confession or profession of faith? That Jesus is the Son of God, He is equal to God, He died for the sins of mankind and He was resurrected, He is sitting at the right hand of Father God. All this is possible because He chose to be made lower than the Angels; why? so He could become our faithful High Priest. Why is maintaining this confession so vital? It is most important we maintain our confession of faith lest we have a heart of unbelief, unbelief that would lead to our departing from God, we would no longer be able to come boldly to His throne. Our confidence, our boldness is resting in Christ's Rest. Stand firm, for we have become partakers of Christ!
  15. Q4. (Hebrews 4:12-13) What do these two verses have to do with what precedes them? How do we labour? Study! be in the word, so we don't fall into unbelief! How is the Word described? the Word is Quick, meaning "life" - it is Powerful, meaning "active" and "effectual", it is "Sharp" and "Piercing", cutting through to the truth, discerning the thoughts that have hold of our hearts. What effect does the Word have on us? God's Word is all powerfull, we cannot escape from the soul serching Word of God. The Word has power to show us who we are, it is truth for us! pay attention when we feel its penetrating truth that lays open who we are. It is a light to light the way. I cannot hide the truth from God, that is why the Word is so important, let it do its work in me, cut through falsehoods, God knows and sees all and He wants me to understand how lost I am without the Word, bread from heaven, that feeds my soul, the Word that helps my "faith" to grow. The Word is God's direction for us, a light to light the way to fellowship with God; The Word is also Jesus! We need both, and then we will truly have Rest. Why do we need to continually expose ourselves to the Word of God? They have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord," who has believed our report? So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Stay in the Word, our hearts still need to be softened, our faith still needs to grow, it is all powerful.
  16. Q3. (Hebrews 4:8-11) What do you think the writer of Hebrews means by this promise of "rest" for the believer? The rest spoken of is Christ's rest, we come to rest in the fact that we do not have to try to earn salvation, this is a new covenant with better promises, this rest is not earned through our works, how often we pray, how often we are good, how often we go to church, true rest is found in Jesus, He is our Rest. Why does the writer urge us: "Make every effort to enter that rest"? Be diligent, study, today is the day, use speed, for the rest is waiting for you; The work has been done. Effort is putting our energy in the faith we have been given, and rest in Him. It is all about Him! Study God's word and you will find example, after example, of unbelief, obstinate rebellion against God, and it brings on God's wrath, there is no rest to be found in unbelief. Study God's word and see how they did not see how wonderful God is. Today is the day, REST in Him. What is the difference between apostasy from Christ and the kind of falling into sin that all Christians experience from time to time? Apostasy is a falling away from the faith, willful rejection of God Almighty, or Christ and His teachings. Sin is part of the fall and we are all guilty of having this sin nature, but by resting in the work of Christ, we have the power of the Holy Spirit to help us, we are on the Potter's Wheel, and daily we are under construction, we rest in that. We now can strive to live a righteous life, rest is not cessation of work, but rather of the weariness and pain in toil. It is wonderful to rest in the new covenant, it is finished.
  17. Q2. (Hebrews 3:12-14) What is the importance of faith in our relationship to Christ? If we do not continue in our faith in Christ Jesus and His resurrection, than our faith is empty and we are still in our sins. Salvation, Rest, comes to us by "faith" in Christ, making us His bride, a relationship we treasure, a true relationship that grows closer, and closer, as we stay in the faith, stay in the Word, stay in love, with the lover of our soul. How does sin trick us? We Christians are still humans and are still living in the world, we may still sin, but we must not continue in our sin as a sinner does. Remember, we are Christ's workmanship, created for good works that God says we are to walk in. Do not think God's grace is a way for us to continue in sin, do not let Satan's condemnation keep us from God, for our faith is in Jesus who is there to forgive us our sins through a repentant heart. Do not grow weary, do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galations 6:9 How does it harden us? It is impossible to please God without faith, it seperates us from the sweet fellowship of God in spirit and in truth. A hardened heart is seen as rebellion to God. Moses generation in the wilderness refused to trust in God to supply their needs, they tested God with their complaining, and their hearts became hard, not knowing God's ways. There was no rest for that generation. What is the value of Christian fellowship to keep our faith strong? We are to warn and admonish one another about the truth, to exhort one another, for this is an effective way to ward off a hardened heart. We are to encourage each other in faith, and obedience, for we are partakers with Christ in the blessing of the promised rest. A warning to take to our hearts.
  18. Q1. (Hebrews 3:6b) Why is the writer exhorting his readers to "hold on" to Christ? These Jewish believers are beginning to see tribulation coming for their way because of their stand for Christ. These Jewish believers are those who did not have their eyes blinded by God, they did believe that Jesus was sent from God to redeem mankind from sin, and is at the right hand of the Father who holds an everlasting covenant with Israel. Seeing they know the truth and the truth is living in them, they, and we, must never falter, no matter what tribulations come our way. Why must we continue in our faith? God has given to each of us a measure of faith to believer, once we see the truth, we must stand firm on the truth. God did not send Jesus to give us life, for us to trample on such an awesome gift, a gift we did not deserve, a gift given to us because of "Love." Stand firm on the truth, on this gift of love! According the writer of Hebrews, what happens if we don't? If we don't, there is no guarantee. Our guarantee is found in Jesus, He chose to live in us, He would not want to stay if we have lost our confidence, lost our hope, for it is this "Hope" that we can rejoice all the way to the end. It is the hope we have that keeps us strong, and our faith gets stronger and stronger each day we walk in the "Hope" we have living in us.
  19. Q5. (Hebrews 2:16-18) Why in God's plan did Jesus have to become human like us? Jesus came to earth as man so He could take back the dominion that was given to mankind, but this dominion was lost when Adam sinned. This could not be accomplished by taking on the nature of angels, but He left the glory of heaven, to be made a little lower than the angels to take on the nature of mankind. Jesus chose to be like us, He took on Him the seed of Abraham, fulfilling the scriptures. How does his humanity provide encouragement and help to us when we are in trouble? Jesus never sinned, but He was tempted, therefore He understands our struggles, yes it is not easy being a human without the Spirit to help us deal with the flesh. Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit. As our High Priest, He is speaking to the Father on our behalf, explaining to the Father what it is like to have the nature of mankind. We must always remember, He has given us power through the Holy Spirit to follow in His example, and when our hearts are set on doing what is pleasing to Him, and yet we fail, we know we can ask forgiveness, for it comes with the covenant, He also tells us to repent. We know He is on our side and before He left earth, He prayed to the Father for us, that we would stay strong. How awesome is He, He chose to give us life, and life more abundantly at that, to give us the Holy Spirit to guide us, to teach us, to help us. He is changing my heart of stone, and as the struggles come I know they are there to help me grow, for my trust is in Him.
  20. Q4. (Hebrews 2:14-15) What was the purpose of Christ's death according to verses 14 and 15? Heb 2:14 Since then the children are sharers in flesh and blood, he also himself in like manner partook of the same; that through death he might bring to nought him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; Heb 2:15 and might deliver all them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. Satan is the author of sin. Through one man Adam, sin entered the world, bringing with it death. Death was not part of God's plan for mankind. Satan had the keys to death and through him we inherited sins nature. God gave mankind laws to live by, to have fellowship with Him, to be seen in our obedience to God Almighty; He gave the 10 Commandments. Satan held the keys, and sin reigned in the heart of man. -- The good news is, Jesus delivered those who partake in His flesh and blood from the grips of death and freed us from the bondage of sins grip on mankind. In what sense is this mission accomplished? It was accomplished in Jesus who came to do the will of the Father, His obedience to the cross and the sending of the Holy Spirit to live in us, giving us power to live righteous lives. We are no longer bond to sin, we no longer have an excuse to continue living a life of sin, continue to let sin rule in our lives. We now can overcome, not perfect, but daily we must die to self, following after Him - we are sharers in the flesh and blood. In what sense will it see its final completion in the future? Revelation 20:14-15 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 20: 10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and false prophet are. The will be tormented day and night forever and ever. What is the result in our lives from Christ's accomplishment? We must remember, Satan still is prince of this world and with him are demons who do his commands, they are out to steal and kill! Matthew 12:29 How can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house. We Bind him by staying in the Word,by trusting and giving praise to God at all times, in all situations, overcome evil with good, continue in faith and obedience to the One who set us free. Remember, we know how it all ends. Greater is He who lives in me than he that is ruling the world. the result should be seen in changed lives. I am being changed daily.
  21. Q3. (Hebrews 2:10) What does it mean, to bring many sons and daughters "to glory"? Rev. 5:9 A new song is song - You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals; For You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by your blood. Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation. "We, the many sons brought to glory by the blood of the Lamb, we can sing this song." In what sense did Jesus become "perfect" through suffering? Jesus not only suffered but He overcame, and triumphed over sin, setting an example for us to follow. What are the implications for our own lives? I know when I come to the throne room of mercy and grace, I have my Bridegroom speaking to the Father on my behalf. He can do this because He suffered as man, therefore knowing what we are faced with in times of stress and temptation. He learned obedience by the things which He suffered and having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to ALL WHO OBEY HIM. Lets keep our ears on and never become dull of hearing God's Word for us. He would rather have our obdience than our sacrifices.
  22. Q2. (Hebrews 2:9) In what way did Christ "taste death for everyone"? God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, 'Christ died for us Why is this so dependent upon God's grace? What is this grace of God? It is unmerited, undeserved, unearned favor. God's grace is seen in the death and resurrection of Jesus, our gift from God. It is by the blood shed on the Cross of Calvary, and our faith in the Christ Jesus that washed us clean from sin. It is by this grace, this love for us that we are saved from the hold sin had on us. His grace is also seen in the giving to us the Holy Spirit, so we can walk in His grace and mercy and be a testimony to the power of the cross. If Christ died for your blackest and most stubborn sins, what are the implications for you? Sin is covered by the blood of Jesus Christ, grace is based upon the work Jesus did for us and not on anything we have done. SO! if grace abound when we were yet sinners, should we continue in our sin? Paul answered, God forbid, no, never. Romans 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin!
  23. Q1. (Hebrews 2:9) In what ways did Jesus suffer during his life and death? In what ways are we likely to suffer? Does suffering have any value? Jesus would suffer many things, would be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, He will be killed, but priase God! He was raised from the dead, fulfilling the scriptures and bringing us salvation. Jesus came as the suffering servant; so that He can come as King of Kings, Lord of Lords in the Last days. The disciples did not understand this, they were looking for the King to rule now. It was after His resurrection and the promise of the Holy Spirit that they truly understand who Jesus is, the Christ sent from God. We also must be filled with the Holy Spirit, to be bold and strong when adversity comes our way! Jesus, filled with the Spirit, made it clear - to follow Him could also include suffering and hardship. This gift of salvation is not to be taken lightly. It is not free, for it was paid with suffering by God Himself. God commands we Love Him first, "love" suffers long and is kind. Jesus is our example, how did He handle unjust suffering? His last words on the cross was of forgiveness. He is the light for us, He is our strength in times of need. What happens when we live in such a way to avoid all suffering? We are not "truly" putting our trust in Him. We as a body of believers, the church, we suffer when others suffer, we all rejoice when another is honored. We are to put our lives in Gods hand, especially in the midst of suffering, always recognizing that He is the faiathful Creator, He is in control of all things. He will not give us more than we can handle (1Cor. 10:13) Keep on our lips at all times, Praise to you Almighty God. 1Peter 4:14 If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are ye; because the Spirit of glory and the Spirit of God resteth upon you.
  24. Q4. (Hebrews 2:3b-4) In what way has the truth of salvation been confirmed to you? It is confirmed in me by the Holy Spirit living in me. The same Spirit that drew me into the truth of the Word, drawing me into life eternal found in Jesus the Christ. Would signs and wonders help or hinder establishing the truth of Christ's ministry today? We see many signs and wonders done by God today! Any time the work of the Holy Spirit is evident would always be a help, He is our helper. The Jew has always asked for a sign, so they would know it is from God, but what pleases God today is for us to come in "faith" - our faith grows as we read and study God's Word, and as we look to Him to fulfill His Word. From which portion of the Bible have you formed your opinion of the value of signs and wonders today? Heb 2:4 God also bearing witness with them, both by signs and wonders, and by manifold powers, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to his own will. The Lord fulfilled the ancient promises for He is the coming Messiah.
