  1. The psalmist here is facing spiritual depression. He is in a dark place and sees no way out, he is putting all his faith in the Lord to bring him through this time in his life. through prayer and praise the Lord helps this psalmist out of this time - he has to help himself too. Often God will give us the tools but it is us that has to use them ourselves.
  2. David has a longing, desire to be in God's presence - to draw near to Him at all times. David sees and knows that it (the house of the Lord) is a safe place, a refuge. We should all seek to be in the presence of the Lrod. The cry of our hearts should be to know Him better, more intimately, which can only be achieved by 'seeking His face'. David provides hope at the end of this Psalm, by telling you to wait for the Lord, he also commands us to be strong. Don't give up but wait. Often, especially in today's society we want it now, but David reminds us to wait.
  3. We see that God created each one of us before we can ever imagine. God knew us before anyone else could ever know us - including our parents. He knew us and had our lives mapped out for His plan before we were formed. David seems to be in awe of God's knowledge and love for him. In awe of the fact that God cared so much for him even before he was on this earth. David then asks God to search his heart - check his motives and worries, to test him. To help him fix the problems that need fixed (we all have them - giving himself completely over to God - opening all the closets) and to lead him in everything he does. - Should this not be what we all would want from God? - to be the very thing God created us to be.
  4. In the first half of this Psalm, David talks about how God speaks to us with His creation. The second half of the Psalm relates to how His written word speaks to us. Both can be just as condeming and heartfelt, but both have different roles to play. The first is all around us reminding us of our creator every moment of every day - yet we still forget! The second half talks about how perfect God's written Word is. Here David has a passion for God's Word and the wisdom His Word provides. David has an obvious love for God's Word and ALL it holds for us:- the wisdom, glory, righteousness, revival... David sounds like he just wants to continuallly read and discover God's Word. I am in a place, at the moment, that relates to David in this way. I don't seem to have enough time in the day to study God's Word as much as I want to! I want to read more and more, to understand God's plans etc more. The more I learn, and read, the more I want to read and learn. I just want more - more wisdom, more understanding, more knowledge, MORE!!! David is asking God to make his heart pure so that he is pleasing God for all the right reasons and not for selfish ones. He wants his heart, thoughts etc to be pleasing and acceptable in God's eyes! That should be the prayer we all want to pray - that God can take delight in our thoughts and actions because we aim to please Him!
  5. God is all powerful - having made all of creation, including us. He is mighty and loving. God has majesty in all of creation. He is the Lord Almighty who created EVERYTHING and everything has a purpose. God created us individually and took the time to place everything in us perfectly. As humans we are so small compared to creation yet he cares so much about us. Christ is all loving and has a plan for us all. He loved us enough to give His life for each of us - how many of us would say that of someone we didn't know or hadn't met personally? God has given us the opportunity to take part in creation and it is our responsibility to use the opportunity! Everything we have and are is a gift from God (not a right) and we should always be thankful, grateful, for His gifts and not take them for granted!
