  1. I was wrong! What would have happened to me if someone hadn't stepped out in faith to lead me to Christ? So, I want to change my answer to-sticking up for someone-giving them a chance-that is the right thing to do. Tell the truth, always! But, as much as we can, stick up for our brothers and sisters in Christ. We all need a little hand up from time to time. So, we should not be afraid to lend on from time to time. Let God be the Judge of the situation, always!
  2. Q3. (Philemon 18-19) Paul vouches for Onesimus and puts up his money (at least in theory) to cover Onesimus
  3. Q1. (Philemon 12) Why does Paul send Onesimus back to Philemon where he can lose his freedom again? Why is it necessary for Paul to do this? Why is it necessary for Onesimus to do this? We all know that, when we come to Jesus, we gotta come clean. Part of that is making things right with those we have wronged. Onesimus had to go back and make things right with Philemon. And, Paul wanted to give Philemon a chance to do the right thing-forgive Onesimus, and restore him to his place. All three of them got something really good out of this deal.
  4. Q4. (Colossians 4:17) Why do you think Archippus was singled out in verse 17? If you could invent a story of his role in the Colossian church, how would you describe Archippus? In what ways does he remind you of yourself? I think that, speaking of myself as an example, there are some who know what it is that they are suppose to be doing, but they don't for whatever reason. Or, they are hit and miss-a little here-a little there. I don't go to church, and this is a sore spot with me, because I know I should go, but I can't find a church that preaches the truth. Or I get a church that puts on entertainment to get people in. I don't go for "Saturday Night Live"-I go for the truth being preached. So I have to find ways to serve God Without going to church. I don't endorse not going, however. I miss fellowship badly!
  5. Q3. (Colossians 4:5-6) What instructions does Paul give us in sharing our faith with non-believers? Why, do you think, we sometimes let opportunities slip by? How will our conversation being
  6. Q2. (Colossians 4:3-4) What prayer request does Paul ask of the Colossian believers? What does it mean to pray for an
  7. Q1. (Colossians 4:2) What guidelines does Paul give us to form our praying habits? If you put these into practice fully, how would they affect your prayer life? What problems would they help correct? Don't give up, pay attention, and express gratitude. I need to be consistent in prayer. I need structure. I just put prayer out there whenever I feel the need to do so, but that is wrong. If I followed this guideline, then I would have a good prayer pattern, and I would feel more empowered when I pray.
  8. Q4. (Colossians 3:25-4:1) What instructions does Paul give masters
  9. Q2. (Colossians 3:20-21) In what way does obedience prepare a child for everyday life in the future? For spiritual life in the future? What can fathers do to keep from discouraging their children? My Dad Taught me right from wrong. He taught me that hard work is rewarding. He taught me to share with those less fortunate than me, even though we had just the essentials. And, he taught me obedience. When I didn't obey-I was punished! But, my Dad didn't beat me or my sibblings. Firm, but gentle. He meant business. We were not spoiled brats. But, we knew without being told, that we were loved. Dad knew how to mix love and punishment, without being overbearing with either. You don't see that much anymore. I strayed for a while, and did some shameful things. But I never forgot my Dad's love and admonition for me, and that is one of the things that brought me to Jesus, when I laid my burdens at His feet.
  10. Q1. (Colossians 3:18-19) Why do you think Paul chose these directions to give to wives and husbands
  11. Q4. (Colossians 3:12-14) Why are Christian virtues so important to Christ? Why are they so important to the church? Why are they so important to non-Christians? Why are they so important in our homes? Christian virtues are so important because they speak of the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. No matter where we are, or what we do, we need to represent Christ-treat people how Jesus would treat them if He were still here. We now have His nature-soon we will appear like He is! Having His nature is also a testament to us-we are children of God. I need to know this on a daily basis! I want to make sure that the Holy Spirit is still with me, and He lets me know when I do something wrong! Praise the Lord!
  12. Q3. (Colossians 3:8) Why are sins of the tongue so easy to slip into? In what ways do they damage us and others? How can we break free of sins of the tongue? We just don't pay attention to what we are saying, or we don't think that what we are saying is bad. Other people are watching and listening, and they may be hurt by something we say about them or someone they know. We need to be aware of what and who we are talking about! Pay attention not only for those around us, but also so we don't hurt God! Pray and ask the Lord to help us get rid of the desire to gossip, and spread lies about people, or thing s that we have heard.
  13. Q2. (Colossians 3:5) Why is sexual l u s t so difficult for people, especially males? Though we cannot deny that we are sexual beings, how can we keep sexual desire from controlling us and causing us to sin? Some were brought up in a culture that promoted "free love". Anything was the excepted norm. When we take Jesus as our Lord and Savior, the lusts that we thought were good we now see as wrong. Anything that separates us from God is an idol, and is very dangerous! We must recognize these desires for what they are, and change our way of thinking. Surround ourselves with thoughts and images that will promote good feelings and thoughts.
  14. Q4. (Colossians 2:20-23) Why are legalism and asceticism unable to restrain the sinful nature? What alternative to legalism does Paul offer in Colossians 2? This is how I see this:I am a child of God, and as such, I am free from all the traditions of men that are upheld in church. I want to worship God in spirit and truth. The only way I can do that is study the word of god, and know what it says, and then put it in to practice. Let no one steal my faith and conviction-I am forever a child of God. I have been redeemed by the blood of the lamb. I have been told that I can not attend church in certain places, because I don't dress a certain way, or wear my hair a certain way, or other such rules and regulations. These pastors that practice these rules, and force them on others, will have to answer. I can say with all honesty-God tells me when I am wrong! I get spanked! That is how I know that I am wrong. That is how I roll.
  15. Q3. (Colossians 2:13-15) How did forgiveness free us from the Law? What is the significance of nailing the Law to the cross? What does this symbolize? How did the cross bring triumph over evil spiritual forces? The law can do nothing but expose our sin. When Jesus died on the cross, He freed us from the law, and united us to Himself, thus freeing us from sin and death. Now that we have died to sin, we are free from the effects of sin. However, we are at war with evil spirits. They are constantly trying to get us to deny our faith in Christ, or cause us to doubt our salvation. Ephesians chapter 6 says that we wrestle against principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness, and spiritual wickedness in high places. Just because we are saved, does not mean that the devil has given up on us! But, because we are alive in Christ, we now have protection to fight these evil forces!
  16. Q2. (Colossians 2:9-10) What does verse 9 teach about Christ
  17. Q1. (Colossians 2:8) Philosophy refers to a prevailing belief system. How can a belief system be empty and false? Have you ever personally experienced being captivated by a belief system only to find it deceptive and hollow? Belief systems can be false-or packed with lies- and also, they can be based on traditions. It's kind of like the whole Christmas thing. It is suppose to be Jesus' birthday, but as children, we are taught that "Santa Claus" will come if we are good boys and girls. Then, of course, there is the Easter bunny. When we should be celebrating Jesus' resurrection, we call on Peter Cottontail to come hopping down the bunny trail! What's up with that? My daughter says that it is for the children. Ok-if you want to give your children something good, and long-lasting for the holiday, tell them what Jesus did for them, and what it means. Tell them the truth! There's a novel idea!
