  1. I love this Psalm as it has provided much comfort for me as I began to come to grips with God as Father/Mother. It is one that I go to when I have to remind myself to have patience. When it says "Dwell in the house of the Lord?" it is talking about being close to God at all times. Priests would dwell in the temples as they did their duties, and we should not forget that we are God's Temple, and that He is in us, and therefore we do dwell with Him all the days of our lives. But are we mindful of that? Do we as it continues - seek His face? Do we want to be intimate with God in our everyday lives - or do we just want to relegate God to Sunday? We want to look to Him and want to know all we can about Him. We want to learn His ways and His will for us so that we can align ourselves up with His purpose for us, which is one that is in our best interests. Also, we need to realize that we don't have to wait to Heaven to see His goodness, we can see that in the land of the living here and now. David reminds us that we can trust in God, wait on Him (with expectant hope) and we WILL see His goodness. I took a Beth Moore Bible study once called Believing God and in this study we were to look for "God Stops" places where God touched our lives. Little and big - and as we looked expectantly where He was touching our lives we became closer to Him. Before I got saved, and when I was still hurting from my past, I took a wait and see attitude with God - would He reach down and help me, would he do what I wanted Him to do when I wanted Him to do it. My faith was bound so much up in that. Now I see that it is a seeking of Him, a turning to Him, and expectant hope that moves Him. It sort of reminds me of the father of the Prodigal son. The father waited for the son' s return. He knew what was going on in His life, but knew that the son had to turn back to the father. The Father ran when He saw the son coming, but it took the son coming back for the Father to approach Him. God does not force Himself on us, but He loves it when we seek Him, when we trust Him, and when we begin to do things that draw us closer to Him.
  2. I took a walk and meditated on the creation Psalms. Where I walk is near a reservoir, and God often paints beautiful cloud pictures for me. I started thinking about how interconnected all of God's creation is, and He reminded me that I too am part of His Creation. I was then drawn to think about how we are all part of the Body of Christ, and thus where we are in our spiritual walk affects all of the Body of Christ, so we need to keep walking forward in His direction, for a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. I want to keep walking His path for me so that His glory can shine through. Heather
  3. When we deal with life it is important to keep perspective and David was a master of that. He spent his time in the fields as a shepherd, saw creation, life - death -struggle. I think here that He realized the wonderful intricacy of creation, how all was knit together by God - all works together. Because God created all, and said that it was good, David could relax knowing that God made him fearfully and wonderfully. God was in charge even before David was born, and knows that God is in charge of his life for all of his days. David wants to be transparent to God, and wants God to direct his path so that He is in line with God's will. I love this Psalm. Heather
  4. The Word, John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. This Psalm shows that the Word is God, that God created the universe through His Word, and then He gave us His Word both in the son -the Rock (v.14) and in the Bible. Have I ever basked in God's word? Yes, I love to study His Word, and often it speaks to me as I read it. My day is not right if I have not spent some time in His Word. David wants His Words and the Meditation of his heart to be pleasing to God, His Rock and Redeemer. Romans tells us Romans 1:20-21 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. That no one who has ever experienced creation can justify not knowing God, for His creation speaks of Him. David understands the importance of Words - Words can create and they can destroy. Our words in our minds and hearts need to be His Words. Heather
  5. Just wanted to say "Hi" for I see you too are going through the Psalms at the same time I am. Heather
  6. That Jehovah is OUR Lord, personal not amorphous. Anyone that is honest will see that He is the creator, and see His glory in the creation. He is sovereign. He is over and above the enemy, none is stronger thaqn the creator for the creation can never equal the creator. Yet, God cared so much about us that He created us, and loves us. As Beth Moore states, He fashioned us with His fingers - He spoke the rest of creation into existence, but formed us and then used spiritual CPR to breathe life into us. Man is a little lower than the Heavenly beings, but we are crowned with glory and honor. God gave man dominion over the earth in creation, and this Psalm reminds us of that, although we haven't maintained that dominion since the fall. Christ is the ruler over the earth, and everything is under Him, He has restored the rule the way God planned it for creation. Our responsibility is to give praise and honor to our Creator. I never noticed that Psalm 8 ended and began with the same wording. Reminds me of Romans where it states that Creation speaks of God, and that no one can say that they are ignorant of God because His Creation shows us that He is. Even in my most pagan of days, I still knew that there was a Creator. I struggled with this Psalm for a long time because it showed that God was in charge of the universe and all was under His control, and for a time I had a challenge thinking that if everything was so under God's control, why was there evil? It took a long time to reconcile that. There are a few other Psalms that for a period of time early in my faith were like fingernails on a blackboard. Heather
  7. Just checking in. I am from New York, and am looking forward to this Psalm study. I am a happily married mom of three teenagers, two in college, on in 11th grade. I am active in my church and have a blog where I post my pastor's sermons and some of my own Bible studies. I love God and learning about His Word. Heather
