  1. Q3 a) What was the vintner’s vision for the vineyard? The vintner loved his vineyard. and was willing to sing a song about his vineyard because he looked for a good crop of grapes at the end of his toil What did he do to accomplish the vision? He chose a good piece of fertile land. He dug it up and cleared it of stones. He planted in it the best of vines. He built a watch tower to survey it and hunt away intruders and birds. He made a winepress also to crush the ripe grapes to make wine. He did everything he could do to enable him to get a good crop of good grapes. c) What happened when the crops came in? When he was looking for a crop of good grapes it only yielded bad grapes. .He was frustrated after all that he had done as he had not left any stone unturned in caring for it. d) What did the vintner say he would do with the vineyard? The vintner would allow the vineyard to become a wasteland. e) What does the parable mean? The Vineyard is the House of Israel. The Garden of His Delight are the Men of Judah. The Good Fruit are Justice and Righteousness….these are what he expected. The Bad Fruit are Bloodshed and Distress……that’s what resulted in Judah. So since he tended and cared for his vineyard and got only bad fruit He proclaimed a judgement which meant destructive forces would invade JUDAH The prophecies were fulfilled with the destruction of Judah by the Assyrians and ending with the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians in 587.BC.
  2. Q2 a What does this prophecy of the future Jerusalem tell us about God’s plan for the Gentiles? The prophecy of the future generation tells us that according to Gods plan i) The Gentiles would acknowledge Yahweh as the true God. ii) That they were seeking to learn from the true God of Jacob About God’s plan for the Jews? For the Jews it speaks of a spiritual revival and they would return from different parts of the world back to the mountain of the LORD in Jerusalem and would worship the LORD..The Jews in Judah were following eastern religions, divination and were behaving like pagan nations full of greed, Idolatry and desire for war…all this as a result of the influence of Assyria. There would be forgiveness and cleansing of the REMNANT. c) About spiritual hunger? There would be a widespread hunger for God’s Word and Way. People would be seeking the true God to learn from Him and obey Him and walk in His paths. d) About Peace? Regarding Peace it informs us that wars between nations would end. All disputes would be settled by YAHWEH LORD whose justice would be acknowledged by all nations. The people would modify their weapons of war to implements of farming as they were convinced of future peace.
  3. 1a. In what way is Judah confused about its identity according to verse 2-4? God is giving a clear mandate to all those in heaven and on earth to listen to the truth. The children he so lovingly took care of and to whom he gave tremendous opportunities while raising them and brought them to their present status; they had rebelled against him and walked away. He said even the animals knew their master but Judah did not know their God. b. What are the consequences when Christians today suffer such identity confusion? When you lose God, you lose man as well because man is created in the image of God.. Christians today have turned selfish and self-centred ministering to their own needs and lives -the ME GENERATION- because of which they have to bear the burdens of sin, corruption rebellion and crimes like sex abuse, child abuse, drug trafficking, arms proliferation and many other lusts and pride of life. They despise and blaspheme God so they are alienated from God. Isaiah has painted a vivid picture of what follows when men turn their back on God. We are protected by unseen forces (Guardian Angels) but we will be left unprotected..We have become a sick people with lack of immunity.. Invaders take over both individuals and nations. In this condition of ours God imposes trials and tribulations trying to awaken us to listen to what He has to say. He shouts to us in our pain. He tries to refine us and bring us back to him.. c. What injustice does God accuse his people of in v 15-17? God accuses His people of Hypocrisy .---- empty worship with bloody sacrifices, ostentatious prayer.and had neglected justice, mercy and faithfulness especially to the orphans and widows. They tried to remedy things not by a turn about to the Grace and Mercy of God but by their superficial worship,… their shallow and pretentious religious performances..If their heart was not in it and they didn’tt mean what they said or sang, when there was no change in their heart or change in their life… How could God be paid off by play acting or charades? d. In v 18- 20 God argues that their behaviour is unreasonable. Why? God argues that their behavior is unreasonable and that they are steeped in sin making them scarlet and crimson, . He says they are sick. There is no help in Man by himself . We cannot heal ourselves. We need more than just our habits changed.. We ourselves need to change and that can happen only when we have a relationship with the living God. He says ”Stop doing wrong. Start doing right”….There may be people who are trying to stop bad things and may be able to, but only temporarily.. It never works permanently. How can evil people do good things? -2- e. What does God offer as an alternative? COME NOW! This is the theme of Isaiah . COME NOW. T here is Good News ..the Gospel --- that the Lord came and shed His blood and put our sins upon Himself and gave us the Gift of Righteousness so that our hearts could be changed. God calls them to repentance . He is willing to forgive their sins and make them clean if they obey His commands Sin and our selfishness is taken away and overcome by the Gift of Love .and we begin to live for Him GOD SAVES…Isaiah is true to his name ….””.The Lord is your Salvation” There is no power to change our evil nature as we are all born sinners but the gospel i.e. Good News is that God has a way to break through the human problem and give us a changed heart and a new way of living God is offering an alternatative. God is offering to make a difference …”If any man is in Christ he is a new creation. Old things pass away”.

  6. Q3. (Isaiah 22) Why is Judah faulted for making necessary military preparations in the face of the Assyrian armies? This prophecy points to Jerusalem when the inhabitants of Jerusalem were facing spiritual blindness ..Jerusalem was always referred to as Mount Zion but here due to its spiritual depravity and behaving just like the Gentiles ..Isaiah terms it the Valley of Vision..Judah had made provision for water to come into the city of Jerusalem in the event of it being captured by the Assyrians. They were proud of their own security measures rather than depending on Yahweh. What should they have done at the same time (verses 11-12)? They should have looked to the Lord ..instead of unbelief. What seems to be the sin of Shebna, steward of the palace (verses 15-19)? Shebna was corrupt ..he was using the nations resources to further his position, possessions and pride. Have you ever been guilty of selfishness instead of doing your duty to Christ? Yes.
  7. Q1. (Isaiah 14) What was the attitude of heart in the ruler described in Isaiah 14:12-17? The ruler described by Isaiah was very arrogant and was exhalting himself to a position above the heavens , above the gods; above the Holy Mountain presumed to be the abode of the Gods. What is the scriptural evidence that this indeed refers to Satan? Some Christian commentators and Jewish manuscripts made a reference to this passage as though it were referring to the fall of Satan but it is not directly mentioned as such in the scripture portion.. The King James version of the bible refers to the Morning star as Lucifer and his fall from heaven ..this rebellion is likened to the rebellion of Satan but not referring to him as such. Have you ever exalted your opinion and will over God's will and God's word? Many times we sin and do not realize that God is in control we try to have our own way. How does this differ from the ruler in 14:12-17? This is pride of life when one attributes all ones skills and successes to oneself.... when we forget and do not realize it is the hand of the Soveriegn God …we do give thanks to God for these laurels which is different from the attitude of the ruler. what is the best way to humble oneself before the Lord? We can humble ourselves before God by always seeking His will for our lives and then we will know that whatever happens is then "God ordained" .
  8. a)What does it mean that "the nations" will rally to the Messiah when he appears? “the nations “ means peoples from all over the world… the Jews from northern Kingdom and the Jews from the Southern kingdom …reuniting Israel as one nation ..as well as the Gentiles from all over the world. Who are these "nations"? Nations mean the whole world ….the exiled Jews that are left of his people from Assyria, from Lower Egypt, from Upper Egypt, from Cush, from Elam, from Babylonia, from Hamath and from the islands of the sea and he will assemble his scattered people of Judah from the four quarters of the earth c) Who else will be "gathered" at this time? He will gather (bring back) the elect Jews and Gentiles from the 4 corners of the earth. d) How does this prophecy relate to Jesus' and Paul's teaching about the Rapture (Mark 13:26-27; 2 Thessalonians 2:1)? At the Second coming of Jesus which is also called The Rapture….THE Lord will descend in the clouds and then there will be a shout from heaven and the Lord with a host of angels who accompany Him in a cloud will come down to the earth and….at that time He will gather all his elect from all parts of the earth which include the Jews and Gentiles who are his elect. e) When will this prophecy be fulfilled? This prophecy will be fulfilled when Jesus Christ returns with power and great glory at the end times…at the Rapture...the exact time is not known to anyone..
  9. Q6. (Isaiah 11:6-9) a) The passage speaks in figurative language. What kind of peace does it describe? The Hebrew word Shalom means “peace,” which coveys the idea of prosperity, well-being, health, wholeness, completeness, and safety. It speaks of wholeness of person describing a state in which one is healthy spiritually, emotionally, spiritually, and intellectually. Shalom describes a positive relationship between friends, parties, and even nations.it describes a state in which friends and even nations live together, dwelling with each other without any strife, not simply the “absence of war.” It pictures people living together in harmony.including natural enemies and animals How far will this peace extend? This peace will exend over the whole earth. c) According to Isaiah 11:9b, why will there be peace? The reason for the peace will be that every one will have the Knowledge of the Lord d) What does "the knowledge of the Lord" mean? By “knowledge of the Lord” one means that apart from mere awareness of the Lord by Hearing or Reading about Him : not a academic perception but ONE SHOULD HAVE a personal relationship and close fellowship with the Lord. e) How widespread will this "knowledge" be? The knowledge of the Lord will be all over the world …worldwide… but You have to develop this personal relationship and close fellowship with the Lord which will give Peace How do we get this personal relationship and close fellowship with the lord? Isaiah 26:3 says “You will keep them in perfect peace who trust in you, whose thoughts are fixed on You.” If you put your faith, your trust in Jesus, and keep your thoughts fixed on Him, on Yeshua, our Messiah, our Peace.” Walk with Him every second. Concentrate on Him every moment in everything you do. Keep looking to Him, not to your problems, troubles, hardships, difficulties, or woes, THEN HE WILL KEEP YOU IN PERFECT PEACE. ALWAYS”.
  10. Q5. a) (Isaiah 11:1-5) Who was Jesse? Jesse was the son of Obed and the father of King David. How does his name indicate that this passage speaks of the Messiah? i) A holy seed will be the stump in the land Isa 6:1 ii) The Messiah would come from the Davidic line 1 Sam 16:1 & Ruth 4:17 iii) The Davidic Messiah is called the Root of Jesse Isa 11:1 iv) The Messiah is called the Root of David Rev 5:5 v) I am the Root and Offspring of David Rev 22:16 c) What attributes will he have due to the Spirit of God upon him? The attributes of Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel , Might, Knowledge and the Fear of the LORD d) What do we learn about this Messiah from verses 4-5? We learn that the Messiah will be a Judge of supremecy and would not be requiring any testimonies, evidences or witnesses for His judgement but will judge with Righteousness; Justice and Faithfulness. e) Who seem to be the victims of injustice and oppression here? He is concerned about the weak, powerless and poor of the earth who are the victims of injustice and oppression. f) When the Messiah comes, what will happen to all who involve themselves in injustice? This passage is speaking of the Messiah’s Second Coming. This is not the meek and mild Jesus who allowed himself to be led to slaughter and died on the cross after his first coming. Jesus will return as judge, warrior and king, and there will be nothing meek about him then. .. The Messiah will see that the poor and needy are treated with righteousness and justice. The Messiah would see that you were held accountable for your actions. and would smite you . the wicked would fear Him because he would judge with Faithfulness and Truth
  11. 4 Why do humans make laws to oppress the weak and poor? i) Humans are basically selfish in all aspects of life ; they have pride of life and ego and the lusts of the flesh for which they wish to exploit everyone and anyone in whatever way they can and whenever they can… which has led the world into the present state….we can say this is the dominace of Satan the prince of Darkness. ii) Also there is a dependency that prevails that aggravates the oppression iii) No fear of God… if they do have some amount of respect for their Gods they feel they can appease God with their “Works” They have a balancing system and for every wrong they try to cover up with good deeds. iv) Christians on the other hand will behave in this manner only if they have abandoned God as a Refuge and do not live a life as a person priviledged to know God (children of God) and who do not obey the Lords command to “Love one another as I have loved you “------..in which case they are no different from unbelievers.. When one is self centred and power seeking then these types of laws are framed. What can we as Christians do to prevent this? i) Ignorance is not bliss in this situation.....If every individual in the world is educated and made able to earn a livelihood then the situation of dominance and oppression may reduce.. As a Christian community we have opened schools all over the world for this reason. ii) The caste system is integral in Indian community and as Christians we can strive to abolish the caste system wherever we see it. and advocate dignity of labour. iii) Opportunity has to be given to all without bias….on ones merit and not nepotism. iv) “Love our brothers”: be witnesses for Christ so that the other communities of the world learn a life of sacrifice and love v) Christians should try to bond with each other in regions and facilitate the upliftment of the down trodden….this is being done on a large footing by the missionaries and charitable christen organizations vi) Preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ which will transform humanity and remove oppression vii) Pray for a revival of the church so that godly people will dominate the ungodly..PRAYER WORKS MIRACLES. c) What can we do to help the poor and weak in our communities? i) Helping them to earn a living …start rehabitataion programs , cottage industries, vocational training, adult literacy programs ( for those who have missed school in their childhood) ii) Open agencies for job opportunities after a thorough police verification. iii) Teach them the love of God so that they do not cheat or embarrass the persons who try to help them in life…instill values in them..very important ..many times I have tried to help and have been cheated . iv) Develop community living with a common fund and common goals so that all will benefit from each others work and food.. v) Teach them basic skills to sustain themselves anywhere … vi) Seek the hand of the government to bring to task anyone who has acted unlawfully such as police, moneylenders, employers, so that they get their basic rights. vii) Money is the root of all evil …freeze anyones account if they are not accountable for their behavior…Ha! Ha! Ha! …all injustice will disappear as everyone loves their money
  12. Q3 a). (Isaiah 9:6-7) What in the text convinces us that the Child/Son is the Messiah himself? His “Name” prophetically speaks of Jesus , the Messiah, no one else can have a name “God with us” and “ the government will be on his shoulders.”.this includes the “millennium reign” and also the reign in the “age to come” forever and ever as he will be of the line of David and sit on his throne. b)What do you learn about the Messiah from the four word pairs describing him? i) Mighty God …describes him as an all powerful warrior who can conquer all in war …He is identified as God accompanied by his heavenly army of angels and is able to overthrow any nation. ii) Wonderful Counsellor …indicates him as a unique person with astounding wisdom more than that possessed by Solomon:.one whose plans purposes designs and decress are marvellous Iii) Everlasting Father ..indiacates he is one essence with the Father God and there is perpetuation of his presence through the future iv) Prince of Peace….an authority and presence which will give a wholesome c) Which of these saving attributes do you need most in your life right now? I need the peace which passes all understanding..an inner strength in times of stress/anxiety /turmoil a calm and serene constituition….come what may
  13. Q 2 (Isaiah 8:14-15) In what sense is Yahweh (and his Messiah Jesus) a "stumbling stone" and "a trap and a snare"? 2 a)……Stumbling block = obstacle..Jesus became the obstacle in all areas for the people of Israel. Jesus was the purposely placed roadblock for those who thought they were on the path to righteousness. He was in their way but they couldn’t realize that He was the way. The standard of holiness set by him was a stumbling block / rock of offence. To many Christians the preaching of the Cross is foolishness, his doctrines and precepts offend them. To believers Jesus was a place of safety/ a sanctuary. This is a call to fear God / Yahweh. We are not to enter any confederacy with the world thinking that by doing so we will accomplish much more and achieve total freedom. Those who reject Christ will be lured into sin (snared) and thereby enter the worst type of slavery to sin (trapped by sin) Every device of Satan will lure Gods people to form a confederacy with the agents of Satan . This latter-day-Assyrian confederacy will be a fearful trap and will separate God’s people..Those who know and recognize it will “escape” the trap but a majority of Christians will be caught in it . In what way are people broken in this stumbling? They trip on the stone and fall and break their bones….When they reject Christ they will leave the right path and fall a prey to the devil and they will reach destruction..All those who persist in unbelief of the Gospel of Christ will be destroyed….they fall into other sins and then are punished and die and perish eternally. c) Why do you think people stumble over a God who is almighty and righteous and must be obeyed? The problem with many people and the Jews is the way in which they pursue righteousness. They want to do it their way not God’s way . They want to use Law as a way to obtain righteousness.but no one can fulfill the demands of the Law and they will remain sinners . Christ alone fulfilled the Law. Instead of seeing God’s righteousness by faith that Christ did it all; they stumble over works. People refuse to come to God by faith. Lack of faith prevents them from recognizing Jesus as the Messiah. They have an attitude problem. Instead of reigning in the rich blessings of Yahweh through Christ they consider Christ a hindrance on which they trip and fall to destruction or eternal peril.
  14. Q1 a) What is the gist of the prophetic instructions to Ahaz? Isaiah told Ahaz that the Syro-Ephramite Confederacy was nothing to fear: as it would be unsuccessful and would not harm him. He gave two positive commands….. ..Be Careful and Be Still and two negative commands….. Do not Fear and Do not Doubt. God desired that Ahaz stand firm in the Lord and not allow doubts and fears to weaken him. .Isaiah assured him that God was with him as revealed by a sign …..…the birth of a child called Immanuel meaning “‘God is with us” and that the Israelites and Syrians would be unable to destroy Judah in the face of “God being with us “The name of his son Shear-jashub means “Quick to plunder .Speedy to spoil” indicating that Assyria would conquer and plunder Israel and Syria .before the child speaks. Isaiah warns Ahaz that refusal to accept the sign would lead Assyria to overtake Judah and desroy it and the name Maher- shalal- hash- baz meant “ a remnant would remain” Isaiah concluded his prophecy by warning “Trust in the LORD or you will be destroyed”. Why do you think Ahaz chose to disregard it? Faith is the confidence in the unseen things hoped for in the future. This faith was beyond Ahaz’s grasp. Ahaz was a human being and since he had been living a sinful life he had lost communion with God.. He could not sense the strength in Gods words and amidst panic and fear resorted to the human instinct to protect his people in the way he thought best…as most of us do in solving small problems. c) What did Ahaz do instead? Ahaz disregarded the advice of Isaiah and instead used his human skills and ungodly manouvres offering his wealth and admitting to become a vassal of Assyria to rally the support of the king to protect him from his enemies Ephraim and Syria . d) What was the consequence of this disobedience? He trusted Tigleth Pileser who ruled Assyria and Babylon as well and wanted to increase his empire to the farthest North. In the reign of Hezekiah the fortified cities of Judah were destroyed and later in 701 BC besieged Jerusalem also…he shaved Judah like a razor to the ground. e) Why do we sometimes seem to think we are smarter than God? Faith and fear are contrary to one another .Prov 25:26 When a godly man joins a wicked man it is like polluting a fountain or muddling a spring..we just do not realize where we are heading when we take carnal counsel and this leads to ruin. We forget to wait on the Lord when circumstances are overwhelming. Nobody thinks he is smarter that God. f) Why is it so hard to do what God tells us to do? Very simple ..no excuses ..we lack Faith and Obedience. We cannot sacrifice and deny ourselves….We wish to remain comfortable. ..
