Q12. Narrow and Wide Gates

Recommended Posts

It is necessary to seek the narrow road because that means that if you follow it you will live. Jesus concludes this brief parable with the phrase, “and only a few find it” because He knew that there weren’t going to very many looking for it. This parable will strength the disciples because He knew that they were going to have to go down a difficult road that the culture will try influence them to abandon.

Q12. (Matthew 7:13-14) Why is "seeking" necessary to “find” the narrow gate?
To seek something out means you really what to know more about it. So it causes you to have to put in work to find it and it doesn’t come easy. In the world we live in it’s so easy to follow behind the masses, it takes courage to be set apart especially when so many in our world don’t believe God is real. Seeking the narrow gate means you put aside the worldly things, you desire more so your willing to search for the more.

Why do you think Jesus concludes this brief parable with the phrase, “and only a few find it”?
Many don’t believe that God is even real and the others aren’t focused on trying to find the truth. A lot of believers think going to church every week and hearing the word is enough or doing enough good deeds. You have to have an intimate relationship with God, know him for yourself, then He will lead you on the right path.

How is this parable designed to strengthen disciples to be willing to go against the flow, to be different from others in the culture?
It causes you to want to be set apart. The narrow gate leads to life in Christ, for me that means I get to see Him. To dwell in His house forever, to forever be in His presence. Our soul longs for that kind of peace.
