Q2. God our Savior

Recommended Posts

Q2. "Save" and "Savior" are used so much in Christian circles that they have become almost jargon words that we don't even think about. What are synonyms for "save" and "Savior"? What does a "Savior" actually do to earn the name?

Save - redeem, rescue, deliver, set free from sin

Saviour - the One whoe does the saving, the delivering, the setting free from sin

To earn the name, a saviour has to take the debt of the world's sin upon Himself, die on the cross to redeem us from the price we cannot pay

Synonyms for save and Savior: Rescue, preserve, deliver, defend, take care of, Jesus, Good Shepherd, Deliverer, Protector, Provider.

Savior like the Good Shepherd, will protect and provide for his flock, if need be he will lay down his life to keep them safe. Jesus, Our Lord and Savior did exactly that, He laid down His life to save us from our sins. Without the sacrifice, that Jesus made, we would all be doomed to spend eternity in hell.

He takes the bullet meant for us. He takes upon Himself the punishment due to us. He protects us and keeps us from the fate we'd otherwise have to face.

Jesus (Yeshua, God our salvation), redeemer, deliverer, defender, Messiah, restorer, rescuer, protector, preserver, liberator, guardian.

To earn the name Savior, one must be willing to go to all the extent, even if it results in jeopardizing oneself, in order to save. That’s what Jesus did for us. We were unable to save ourselves. Ephesians says we were dead in sin, i..e. spiritually dead. If we go to a morgue and ask a body to lift its little finger, he would be unable to do, even with all the prompting or cheering, if we are willing to give to the dead body. Similarly, there was no way we could save ourselves in our dead situation. It is in this situation of ours that He gave us a new lease of life and a fresh start to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Savior all because of what Jesus did on the Cross. That’s why He is truly called Savior, and He is my Savior.

Some synonyms for Savior are deliverer, redeemer, rescuer, and saver. For save are, deliver, to free, remove from danger, release, recover, and emancipate.

A Savior rescues us from the clutches of the devil and frees us from our sins. He pays the price for our freedom. Jesus came to earth to suffer and die for us on the cross.

Some synonyms for "save":-  rescue; deliver; and "Savior":- Redeemer; Deliverer; rescuer.

To earn the name "Savior", that person has to be in the habit/practise of saving or rescuing, e.g. Jesus is the "Saviour" of the world because He saves whoever calls on His name.

Save, make, deliver and rescuer--all synonymous.  The epistle to the Hebrews can answer the second question.   Christ is our Joshua and High Priest; His ministry of being High Priest is still in effect.  Christ has opened the Holy of holies for us;  oh that we can see this more clearly !  We are not outer court Christains; we have immediate access to God at this moment.  The enlarged life is for us here on earth.  God beckons us to have more of the precious renewal of the Holy Spirit;  we can have that holy boldness to come before the Lord in prayer and be active agents of reconciliation to those here on earth.
