Q4. The Prayer of Surrender
Katzen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 7. David's Psalm of Surrender (Psalm 139)
This prayer is hard to pray, because it's hard to step out into the unknown that God ha planned for us. We're afraid of the things we'll be shown and afraid to let go of some of the things we do. The first time I made this prayer was just a couple months ago. The result? I'm losing the man I love, the home we've shared, and have to start over completely. It's been very painful. But I'm back on the path God put before me. And the seemingly enless pain, fear, and uncertainties of life now, are just a grain of sand, compared to the eternity I'm working towards. -
Q3. Intricate Prenatal Weaving
Katzen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 7. David's Psalm of Surrender (Psalm 139)
It's encouragement, because we can be assured that we were created on purpose and for a reason. We were created by someone who loves us very much. To the parents-to-be this should serve as a reminder that their unborn child is a gift from God...a tiny human entrusted to their care. That's an awesome responsibility. -
Q2. Touched by the Hand of God
Katzen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 7. David's Psalm of Surrender (Psalm 139)
God's hand is protecting and guiding the psalmist I'm not sure if I've felt God's hand on me. I know at this particular time in my life, He is making some pretty major changes in pretty much every area of my life. It's definitely going to be good, because I'm following God again for the first time in many years. What is it like? Scary and depressing because I'm losing a relationship over it and have started a new job over it as well. I have to make all new goals and dreams for my life. It's also exciting. I'm getting a whole new start. I know God has plans for me and they're going to be good ones. -
Q1. Fleeing from God
Katzen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 7. David's Psalm of Surrender (Psalm 139)
People want to flee, because they feel "tied down" or they struggle with wanting to do things they know they shouldn't. People think God doesn't always see everything because they don't see Him. I have to admit that yes, I have felt that way too. I've gotten too wrapped up in my, myself, and I, that I've forgotten all about God. *embarrassed* -
It was an open display of placing it all before God. An example of how we need to ay everything open at His feet, holding nothing back. I'm sure we all have problems toataly giving everything to God. When we don't, we aren't giving our full faith and trust. Then, since we're trying to "fix" it, it doesn't get any better. We aren't allowing God's will to prevail.

It is related, because if we realize it's all His, we'll be more giving. In giving we're reminded exactly how we've become stewards of it. It gets in the way of worship, because our heart isn't 100% into it. Everything I own belongs to God...He's just let me borrow them. I should be very careful not to allow "my" naterial possessions to take a place in my heart that belongs to God. It will re-energize my praise, in reminding me how good God has been to me.

Our praise tells God of the respect and honor we have for Him, and we get to bask in a spiritual manifestation of Him. We should exalt Him because He's worthy of it. In doing so, our faith becomes stronger and deeper. It shows God we love Him and that we're loyal to Him. I'd like to mention that there's a typo in the section under "Power and Glory 29:11a", in case someone couldn't find the verse in their Bible. It should be Psalm 22:3, instead of 23:3.

Our hearts should break with sorrow because of our sin. This is essential, because without it, we're not truly sorry for our sins. That's what makes it a true sacrifice...the sorrow actually causes pain. I'm not sure why we resist this. Perhaps we think it'll make us appear weak? (But remember...when we're weak, THEN we are strong!) I would guess that part of it could be an attempt to avoid pain.

Q3. A Pure Heart
Katzen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 4. David's Prayer for Pardon and Confession of Sin (Psalm 51)
Yes, we can all have a pure heart. God wants us to have a pure heart...all we have to do, is have faith. How wonderful! How marvelous! Or as my daughter-in-law says, "Woo Hoo!" :-) -
Q2. Confession of Sin
Katzen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 4. David's Prayer for Pardon and Confession of Sin (Psalm 51)
David does not try to make up excuses for his sin or to exaggerate them. He is honest about his sin, truly sorry, and wants to be right with God again. This is the only way to be forgiven for our sin. -
Q1. Prayer for Pardon
Katzen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 4. David's Prayer for Pardon and Confession of Sin (Psalm 51)
To pray for pardon, we need to believe that God is capable of forgiveness. This requires faith. Faith is based on beliefs and things we know about God and His character. Reading and sutdying the scripture gets us to know God. In knowing Him, we can have the faith to pray this prayer. -
Q4. Persistence
Katzen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 3. Abraham's Prayer for Sodom (Genesis 18:16-33)
Abraham showed persistence in that he keeps asking, and even keeps lowering the number. Persistence shows God that you really are serious about what you're praying for. I can't say I've ever "prayed through". Something to share.... My Dad has an aneurysm on his aorta and this week came to see the doctors at the Arizona Heart Institute. I am going through a lot in my life right now, and really couldn't handle losing my Dad. I prayed and ended it with accepting that God's will be done. The doctors said that the doctors who sent him to the Institute over-reacted, and they're just going to check on it again in six months! Praise God! -
Q3. Pleasing Boldness
Katzen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 3. Abraham's Prayer for Sodom (Genesis 18:16-33)
Yes...because he believed in God so much. God would love me to talk to Him a lot...to praiseHim, to be totally 100% sure that He hears and answers me, to show 100% faith in Him. -
Q2. Humility and Boldness
Katzen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 3. Abraham's Prayer for Sodom (Genesis 18:16-33)
We must always be bold for God, Jesus, the gospel, etc., but we must be humble, so we don't stop out of our place, or over-step our boundary. To do so, would be a sin. This includes times we're witnessing to others. We must step forward boldy, but not in such ways that we represent ourselves more highly than we should. We don't want to come across to others as "holier than thou". -
Q1. Contending for Righteousness
Katzen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 3. Abraham's Prayer for Sodom (Genesis 18:16-33)
Abraham's basis, is the fact that God is righteous and holy. He calls Him "Judge of all the earth". Abraham's arguement is based on fact...true characteristics of God. -
Q4. Changing God's Mind
Katzen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 2. Moses' Intercession for Israel (Exodus 32:9-14)
God can change His mind about the outcome of things, because it's conditional to mankind's response or behavior. The answer will still always be within His will. Yes, I think God can answer a prayer that is outside of the scope of His will...He can say "No!" -
Q3. Prayer and Determinism
Katzen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 2. Moses' Intercession for Israel (Exodus 32:9-14)
If we feel that everything is predetermined, we won't pray as hard. I think it's plain sill to think that our prayers make no difference. We're told repeatedly through the Bible to pray. God would not tell us to pray, if it made no difference. -
Q2. Praying Boldly
Katzen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 2. Moses' Intercession for Israel (Exodus 32:9-14)
We should pray based on God's promises, charachter, righteousness, and precedents. When we pray this way, we're praying with/for God's will, not against it. Knowing the Bible helps us know God and His Will. -
Q1. Rebellion
Katzen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 2. Moses' Intercession for Israel (Exodus 32:9-14)
The people turned to idols to worship, instead of God. God can be angry, because the people turned to everything God stood against. Yes, His sentence to destroy Israel and raise up a new nations through Moses was justified.
