  1. Ones who were most responsible for killing Jesus are our ancestors Adam and Eve and all of their descendants including us who has sinned We bear in this the responsibility of our sins, which are the debts to God which must be paid, for which we have to be condemned Jesus was praying for us in a sense that he was asking God to forgive us our sins, to cancel our debt of sins. Jesus could ask to God that appeal because he bore our sins on the cross. The Jesus
  2. It is important to Paul for Timothy to come before winter because travel became more difficult in winter because of storms, which caused the Mediterranean to be closed to shipping. So, if Timothy does not make haste, he will probably leave after winter. If Timothy delays, he will not meet Paul again forever because Paul will have been executed, and he will lose the opportunity forever to assist Paul in his last days Yes, I think Timothy dropped everything and came to Paul's side. It is because he was a Paul’s very faithful associate and disciple, and he has a very close relationship with Paul, he with Paul is as a son with his father. If I were Timothy, I hope I would have done the same
  3. It is so difficult when trusted friends desert us because they betray our trust, they are not as we trust; we have already spent much of our time, resources for them for a particular goal, but all of them become vain because of their deserting It is so difficult when they move away or die because we no longer have the ones who always help, support me, with whom we can share life one another, with we can enjoy together things each of us like, our hope or goal in them is gone. No. We should trust one person or more in our life, because we need them to be our friends and to achieve our goal or God
  4. The "crown of righteousness" represents, as written by Pastor Wilson, the crown that consists of righteousness, purchased at great cost by the blood of Jesus It is given to all who has longed for his appearing, who has satisfied with the eternal things that will be awarded by Christ Jesus in his second coming, so that they do not satisfy themselves with the worldly desires It is awarded on the basis of what one has done and finished in this world as a response of God
  5. To have "fought the good fight" or "run the good race" means to have undertaken and finished well the ministry, or service that has been entrusted by God or put into one
  6. Paul commands Timothy to "discharge all the duties of your ministry" because Timothy maybe has slacked off a bit in his ministry The work of an evangelist that Timothy is to do is preaching the Gospel and teaching of how one must live one
  7. Paul has to resort to the command in verses 1-2 because he wants that the charge that he gives to Timothy is carried out all diligence because God and Christ Jesus are the witnesses and sanctions to that charge, and Timothy has to give account to Christ on his second coming day for that charge He has to talk about being ready when it's inconvenient and when it is convenient because the opportunity to declare God
  8. Scripture equips a Christian for ministry in ways that provide him with anything that is demanded in ministry and make him ready for undertake his tasks of ministry According to verse 16, the Scriptures can function in the different ways, that is, in the ways of teaching, rebuking, correct and train in righteousness
  9. Scripture equips a Christian for ministry in ways that provide him with anything that is demanded in ministry and make him ready for undertake his tasks of ministry According to verse 16, the Scriptures can function in the different ways, that is, in the ways of teaching, rebuking, correct and train in righteousness
  10. Inspiration of Scripture means divine guidance or influence of the Holy Spirit exerted directly on the mind and soul of the Scripture writers About the source and authority of Scripture, the term "God-breathed" tells us that all scripture comes from God and creates the Word The doctrine of inspiration of Scripture is important because without firmly holding it we can be doubt or not be confident of all verses written in Scripture and if we doubt that the Scripture come from God we will doubt to believe, be useful for us of, and do what is in Scripture
  11. A failure to accept the inevitability of persecution hinders our witness in this way: we will not give our witness in the way that it should be done if we know in it will cause us enduring persecutions To "take up his cross daily" (Luke 9:23) and to "carry his cross" (Luke 14:27) means to endure whatever consequences of following Jesus, that is, sufferings as results of denying ourselves or of not indulging in our sinful desires, and ones concerning persecution as result of our witness
  12. It is so easy to become a hypocrite because on one side we are unwillingly to suffer or carry the cross as a result of our spiritual life transformation, but on the other side we so want to be considered and praised by people as a godly or faithful Christian We can prevent our faith from degenerating into "a form of religion" without the power in a way that open always ourselves before him and repent if he shows us our sins
  13. The various characteristics that enable a Christian teacher to correct opponents: a. Kindness, that which enables us to keep being kind, gentle, caring to everybody we teach although somebody oppose us because of our teaching b. Skill, that which enables us to teach rightly and effectively so that everybody fully understand our teaching even in the face of controversy c. Lacking resentfulness, that which enables us not to retaliate, threat when somebody insult or slander or even persecute us because of our teaching d. Humility, that which enables us to be humble and set aside our self-importance or egos when we teach and correct opponents e. Trusting God to work, that which enables us to believe that God himself will make them whom we teach repent and have a knowledge of the truth instead of believing that we able to accomplish it by our own strength The lack of any of these hinders the task in this way: first, it makes us quarrel, second, it makes us not different from our opponents or become like them; third, it makes our teaching not be received well, and, fifth, the Holy Spirit difficult to work effectively in us
  14. I put my good plates and silverware on the table when I hold a special party in my house in which my guests of honor will visit our house I use my everyday tableware at my everyday breakfast, lunch and dinner times The point Paul is making with this example is as the using of an article depends on the user
  15. The analogy with a skilled workman that forms the basis for Paul's instruction to Timothy is that Timothy does his task of teaching in the similar way as a skilled workman does. The skilled workman does his task or work with all his capability and skill that he has, correctly, carefully, seriously in order that his work is perfect, no defect, on schedule, fulfill his boss
  16. That illustrates this well: - In the experience of a soldier, that in order to be a good one in war a soldier has to endure hardship in form of no enjoying the involvements of civilian life, and military discipline, weight training of war, and life-or-death combat - In the experience of an athlete, that in order to win the athletic contest an athlete has to endure hardship in form of a never-ending discipline and practice, hours of weight training - In the experience of a farmer, that in order to receive a share of the good crops a farmer has to endure hardship in form of laboring all day in the field in terms of planting, nurturing, and harvesting Of these examples that speaks most strongly to me is the example of a soldier.
  17. Our churches tend not to declare the call to endurance and suffering because they themselves is unwilling to have endurance and suffering Timothy tend to shy away from it because he is unwilling to have it The result of a willingness to suffer for the gospel is blessed by God in this world and given the Kingdom of heaven and a great reward in heaven as stated in Mathew 5:10-12
  18. It is important for pastors and church leaders to execute a strategy of mentoring teachers and elders in a congregation because through it the teacher and elders will be made able to teach others that will also be able to teach others. It is an effective effort to multiply Christ
  19. According to verse 12, the source of Paul's fearlessness is his very deep knowing of Christ That he trusts God to guard for him are his life and the fruit of his ministry to be revealed on the Last Day, as told by Pastor Wilson
  20. Paul's focus on Christ and the gospel is designed to encourage Timothy in this way: it displays more clearly of the power, worthiness and glory of the Gospel, that is, the gospel is God
  21. The advice I would give to a person who has let use of a spiritual gift or ministry lapse is this. First, reminding him of the spiritual gift or ministry that God have given or entrusted to him and through which many people were blessed. Second, exhorting him not to neglect it but reignite it with giving him the reasons why he should do those. The reasons may be that the gift or ministry is a great thing and grace given only to a person that has a particular character quality, and was given through many prayers or laying the hands of a pastor or the body of elders A gift or ministry can be rekindled in a way that starts exercising it again and may start from the embers that remain and leave all things that make the gift or ministry neglected. Repenting and claiming forgiveness of our sins that cause neglecting the gift or ministry
  22. We can guard the faith without becoming narrow, backward-looking people who oppose all change, and complain about "what things are coming to" in a way that while we guard the faith and live our lives in Christ we too keep increasing our knowing of Christ and open ourselves to the leading of the Holy Spirit, which may lead us to the change in the way we worship or serve God or respond God
  23. The actions that the best antidote for the love of money are firmly fixing our hope in God, doing the goods we can do, and being generous In order that it remains healthy and do not go overboard and hurt our family we cultivate generosity in a way that we and our family study deeply about generosity from the Bible, ask God for his guidance and then we and our family do the action of generosity together
  24. Love for money grows when one is not content with what one has and wants more in money or wealth to fulfill the things that one thinks it is a need that should be fulfilled It becomes a trap when money become the objective or top priority of one
  25. We should seek contentment because we always feel not content, want more and more, and always try to fulfill our need so that, in turn, forget about or forsake our priority in our life or what we should seek first in our life, and our heart is no longer towards God but towards wealth or money. No, contentment does not keep us from trying to get ahead so our families can have what they need. Contentment is of learning to rely on God to fulfill the need of our family. Contentment is of self-control in satisfying our need, of keeping from being greedy, of free from the love of money. The question is what needs should we fulfill, and to what extent of needs should we fulfill? We know that our need will be unlimited because if we have fulfilled a need, then another need will appear in us. The balance between contentment and the quest for improvement is this: we should do as stated in Mathew 6:33, that is,
