1. Q2. Was Rebekah a spiritual woman, that is, interested in spiritual things? Was Isaac a spiritual man? Which do you think was the more spiritually sensitive? What evidence of spirituality do you see in Jacob? In Esau? When we look at Rebekah, Issac and Jacob we may come to the conclusion that they may have not been spiritual because of their choices. I believe they were all spiritual. We see them being devious and calculating.God had told Rebekah that her younger son would have precedence over the older. They all knew God yet and still bad decisions were made. We know God and many of us as believers have done the same.In the end we see God identified Himself as the God who Issac and Jacob believed.
2. Q1. Why does the New Testament condemn Esau for selling his birthright? (Hebrews 12:16-17) What did selling the birthright represent? What does this transaction say about Esau's character and values? What does it reveal bout Jacob's character and values. Esau illustrates those who are irreligious. Under the law the eldest son would receive a double inheritance. Esau scorned God's promise given to the heirs of Isaac. Esau disregarded the inheritance from Issac the priviledge of an everlasting covenant with God. It seem like all wanted to take matters in their hand instead of trusting that God had it all worked out.
3. Q1. (1 John 5:4-5) How does a defeatist mentality differ from a belief that in Christ we have overcome the world? What part does faith have in this overcoming? What part does unbelief have in a defeatist mentality? We can overcome because Christ did. As believers we can't have the defeat mentality because this will cause us to give up. We can be victorious through Christ Jesus. Unbelief is no faith at all. Anything that you truly believe you will let nnothing stop you from going all the way.
4. Q2. (1 John 4:4) What in us is greater than false prophets and even Satan? In what sense have we overcome them? In what way will we overcome them in the future? How should this truth affect fear in our lives? We have the Holy Spirit. God knew we would need a Helper. How grateful I am that He is greater than false prophets and Satan. The Holy Spirit will lead, teach and guide us in all truth. We can be victorious because of the Holy Spirit, if we heed the voice. The fear is not of God, He did not give us the spirit of fear but of love, peace and a sossund mind.
5. Q1. (1 John 4:1-3) Why is believing that Jesus was God in the flesh so important? Why doesn't Satan want us to believe that? What are the implications of the fact that Jesus could live out his divine life in a human body like ours? What significance does it bring to the crucifixion and to the resurrection? What is the significance for your Christian life? It is very and truly important the we believe the Jesus was Christ in the flesh becasue our true foundation is Jesus. We confess and believe in our heart the Jesus is Christ in the flesh. He took on our sins which is hard for some to believe. How blessed are those that believe. Satan want us to believe this in impossibe that Jesus in the flesh can take on the sins of the world, die and rise again for those that believe. Believeing that He did is our salvation and Satan wants eternal death for all of us.
6. Q3. (1 John 3:4) How does lawlessness show up in a person's attitude and actions? In what sense is an attitude of lawlessness the cause of sin in our lives? A tree is know by the fruit it bears. If it is an apple tree it should bring forth apples. If it bring forth any other fruit then something is wrong. So it is with believers. We should be showing fruits of the spirit. We are children of God. We know that sin is of Satan. With this attitude of lawlessness, sin is going to follow. We want to live a life to show we are a part of God's family through Jesus Christ.
7. Q2. (1 John 2:28; 3:2-3) In what way does our expectation of Christ's Second Coming motivate us to purify ourselves from sin? How does purifying ourselves from sin relate to God's grace? If we are truly expecting Jesus to return we will confess and repent of out sins. We are saved by Grace but we have a responsibility. We know not the time but we are to live expecting Jesus to return any moment. We should be good stewards over what He has entrusted to us. ONE THING I KNOW FOR SURE IS HE IS RETURNING!
8. Q1. (1 John 2:29-3:2) In what sense are we "children of God"? What does the Holy Spirit have to do with this "new birth"? How does the new birth change us? We are children of God because He loves us. It is the Holy Spirit that makes all the difference. This new birth is spiritually. When we accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior we received the Holy Spirit. This new birth changes us from the inside out. We should share thhis Good News with others so they will have the opportunity to become children of God>
9. Q2. (1 John 2:20-21) What is the "anointing" that John is talking about? In what way is anointing connected to the Holy Spirit in the Bible? Has every Christian received this anointing? What do you think? The anionting here refers to the Holy Spirit or to the Scripture. The anointing is the protection that believers have against the false teachers. The Holy Spirit is also our protection. He leads, teach and guide us in all truth. Every Christian receive this anointing.God did not leave us helpless, without a comforter.
10. Q1. (1 John 2:18) What is this antichrist that John expects to come? What is the difference between the antichrist and antichrists in the church John is writing to? In what ways do we see the spirit of antichrist at work in our day? More than likely John is speaking of those that seeks to take the place of Christ. The many antichrists that John appose of in his letter is the many false teachers. In the book of Revelation the antichrists is know as the beast who will exalt himself above God. In our day we can see the spirit of the antichrist at work by all that is against the work of God, not true believers.
11. The world is what is in opposition to God. Satan is influence in the world and we can't serve or love two masters. It comes appearing as light but is truly darkness once we are trapped in the web of deceit. We have to stay in the WORD and love God with all our heart, soul and mind. We love God with our total being, regardless of circumstances. We can't look at the now, we have to look at the future, which is eternal.
12. He take the time because he loves them and is concern about their spiritual growth. It seem like no level of maturity is left out. No matter what our level of maturity is in Christ we all have room for growth. I have learned dealing with people requires time and love. John deal with each group on thier level. We have to know how to encourage others. I see John working in love. If we do it in love the results will be great!!
13. Q1. (1 John 2:7-11) How does hate and unforgiveness blind us spiritually? If we have been darkened by hurt and hate, how do we come into the light? When we hate and fail to forgive we are not showing the love has commanded us show. We are walking in darkness and not the light. In order for us to be forgiven we have to forgive. Forgiveness is not about the other person but us. We come into the light through Jesus Christ. To rid our life of hate and unforgiveness we have to have Jesus. Our flesh will lead us to believe we have a reason to continue to hate and not forgive becasue we have been hurt.
14. Q4. (1 John 2:1-2) What assurance does John give us if we do sin? How does this comfort us? How does it make us want to avoid sin? If we do sin we have an advocate to intercede for us. I am grateful for this blesssing and it is a comfort. It is a comfort that if I sin that there is a way back and that is through Jesus Christ. This make me not want to sin becasue of the love God has shown to me and I love Him when I am obedient. Through Jesus Christ I am not a bondage to sin.
15. Q3. (1 John 1:9) How would you define "confession"? Why is confessing our sins so important? What happens to us if we stop confessing our sins? What are the promises given to us if we do confess our sins? How is forgiveness of sins different from cleansing? Confession is agreeing with what God says. Confession is literally good for th soul. Confesssion also restore our realationship with God. If we stop confessing we will be separated from God.If we confess, God will forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. When we confess we are forgiven and God will remember no more. We are cleanse by the blood of Jesus. Cleansing and confession both give us a new start and another chance. All this was made possible by what happen on the cross, Jesus death and resurrection .
16. Life is about choices. All our choices have consequences. God set before us life or death. When we willfully walk in darkness we are truly headed for trouble. We deceive self when we think we can continue this behavior and all is well. There is a way back into the light when we sin and that is Jesus. If we truly repent and ask for forgiveness, God is just to forgive us and cleanse us of all unrighteousness.
17. We not walk in love as we are commanded to do. Inorder to have this kind of fellowship with fellow believers we have to have it with God through Jesus christ. We are a family and a family care for each other at least we are suppose to. I often wonder when we go back to our separate homes do we think, talk or even pray for each other. We have a bond and that bond is Jesus.
18. Q5. (1 Timothy 2:11-15) How should Paul's instructions about women teaching and leading in the church be applied in the twenty-first century? How do you support your view? Isn't is great that God loves us all. Glory be to God. We know in Paul's time women were viewed differently than they are today. I agree with Paul that women should learn. We as women should have the right attitude and manner when learning. We want to be submissive and not in an unruly manner. In the last days, God is pouring His spirit upon all mankind. We should all work together to get the Good News out to a dying world. Let us all go forth and be SERVANTS.
19. Q4. (1 Timothy 2:9-10) How did women dressing in fancy clothes threaten to compromise the church's witness in Ephesus? How do we apply the principle of Paul's directive in twenty-first century churches without instituting a new legalism? The women dressing in fancy clothes threaten to compromise the church's witness in Ephesus becasue it draws attention to themsevles and not the message. We (male/female) should be modest in dress. We all want to keep the focus on God through Jesus Christ. There should be reverence, respect and shrinking away from what is inappropriate. We should also have sound judgement or self control We can apply the principle by urging christian women that beauty is her godly character and her love for the Lord and demonstrated in all types of good works.
20. Q3. (1 Timothy 2:8). What problem among the men of the congregation is Paul referring to in this verse? What is so serious about worshipping with the opposite of love in your heart? The problem is of leadership in public worship. Who were to conduct this worship? There seem to be a problem about the role of the female. Some seem to insist that only male should be the only one to conduct publish worship. Paul describes women as praying in public in some of his other letters. Biblical prayers must be done with a clean heart and life. Worshipping with the opposite of love in your heart carries the idea of disputing. Prayer is to be offered without resentment or disputing among those in the church.
21. Q2. (1 Timothy 2:5-6) In the context of the salvation of all, why do you think Paul emphasizes the roles of Mediator and Ransom? In what way did Christ fulfill both these roles? One God is the central truth of the Hrbrew scripture. Mediator is a concept derived from the ceremonial worship prescribed in the Old Testament. The priests mediated between God and the Isrealites by offering animals sacrifices, to atone for the people sins. The one mediator is the Man Christ Jesus. There is only one way to God, through the Mediator Christ Jesus, who has full nature of God and full nature of man. Christ has inentified with us; He understands us perfectly and respresents us at the right hand of God the Father. Christ gave himself a ranson for all. Christ substitued His life for our sins; our sins separated us from God. Christ paid a pentalty for our sins so that we could be reconciled to our Father
22. Q1. (1 Timothy 2:1-4) Why does Paul emphasize salvation of all mankind in this letter? What does this suggest about the practice of evangelism in the Ephesus church? Salvation for all mankind is available. God desires that none shall perish. This is not restricted to believers. Non-belivers are included, such as kings and all who are in authority. We know only those that believes in Christ will receive salvation. We know God extends the offer of salvation to all. There were issues in the Ephesus Church, so Paul elaborates on what will build up the church. We should pray for all mankind.
23. Q4. (1 Timothy 1:18-19) Why does Paul need to remind Timothy about the prophecies spoken over him? In practical terms, what does "fight the good fight" really mean? Why does Paul tell Timothy to "hold on to faith and a good conscience"? What temptation is Paul trying to counter in his prot
24. Q3. (1 Timothy 1:17) What do we learn about God from this doxology? What do we learn about praise? Have you ever tried speaking out a doxology in your personal prayer or praise time? What effect does a doxology have on the speaker? We learn that Paul called God the King eternal. God is truly eternal. He is immortal and invisible. This draws attention to the exalted nature of God, and the discription only points to His uniqueness. God should be praised above all. This put in prespective the true nature of God in Paul's heart. LET EVERYTHING THAT HAS BREATH PRAISE GOD!!!!!!!!!!!
25. Q2. (1 Timothy 1:12-14) Why does Paul comment on his own life after a paragraph on the law (1:8-11)? Why does he share this with Timothy and the church that will read the letter? How might sharing this help get the church back on center? Paul shared that before he trusted in Christ as Savior, he was a blasphmer(speaking against God); a persecutor(pursuing christians like a hunter pursuing his prey);an insolent man(a violent person acting out of personal pride); but he obtained mercy. If Paul could find mercy after the terrible things he did against Christ, then God surely offers salvation with "open arms" to all people. Grace is God's underserved, unearned freely given favor. This was encouragement to Timothy and the church. If this happen for Paul then it is available to all. Tiomothy and the church could have the same favor and so can we. Than God for His grace and mercy. Something to shout about!
