  1. Q2. What happened when the Israelites disobeyed God and intermarried with the Canaanites? Why do you think God commanded them not to intermarry? Was this racial or spiritual or both? Why are Christians to marry
  2. Q1. (Genesis 34) Why do you think Jacob is so silent after the rape of his daughter? What should he have done instead of being silent? What was right about the sons
  3. Q4. (Genesis 33:1-16) How has Esau changed since Jacob had gone to Haran? How has Jacob changed? How does the encounter demonstrate Jacob
  4. Q1. (Genesis 32:1-2) Why does God reveal the angel army to Jacob? What is the significance of the presence of this army? Why do you think he calls the place Mahanaim (
  5. Q4. (Genesis 31:44-55) What are the terms of the Mizpah Covenant? Of what is the Mizpah monument supposed to remind Jacob and Laban? Mizpah was an agreement between Laban and His family and Jacob and his family Laban was not to cross the line of the monument to harm Jacob. and Jacob was not to crosss the monument line to harm jacob also Jacob had to promise to be good to wives and grand children and not to disinherit his wives for any reason. The monument was too remind both jacob and Laban and families of the agreement and that God was watching over them to assure they kept to the agreement.
  6. Q3. (Genesis 31:17-36) Why did Jacob and his family leave without saying good-bye to Laban? In what sense did they
  7. Q2. (Genesis 30:25-43) At what point do you think Jacob realizes that his breeding techniques are not the cause of his growing wealth? According to Deuteronomy 8:17-18, what danger are we in when our income and assets begin to increase? When Jacobs wages had been changed perhaps two or three times < I feel then he realized that God was doing the changing that it was two strange for it to be caused by anything he could do it took generations to change a full flocks pattern by just breeding practices and each time the wages changed the patterns on the sheep changed the next season. When our income and assets begin to increase we are in dangger of attributing the increase to something we did and pride and greed could become issues in our lives. And to ignore God's work and blessings of provision as not Gods work and a blessing but to our due and from our efforts. Humility and thankfullness to God will keep us from pride and greed.
  8. Q1. (Genesis 29) Why do you think God allows Jacob to be tricked into 14 years of labor for two wives? What purposes do you think God is working out through these circumstances? I feel Jacob was tricked in this way so that he could feel what deception felt like after he was decieved. It served the purpose to let him know how he had made his brother feel It also brought many more children to Jacob so that abraham's seed began to grow into nations thru all his children It was bringing him into more righteous character and a better relationship with God. God wanted Him to be more upright and though he failed at some problems he also changed with all the work and experiences with his wives. He was being tried and changed in order to allow God's character to show more than his deceptive character.
  9. Q3. (Genesis 28:18-21) What did it mean to Jacob to set up the stone? What did anointing the stone mean to him? Why does he do these things? What does he promise God in his vow? Jacob set up the stone to make this spot a Holy Spot to commerate God's speaking to him and Revealing himself to Jacob. He also anointed and set up the stone as a pillar as a sign for himself and future generations that God was in this place and it was sacred and important to remember the happenings that came to be here. In his vow He promises that if God is with him, gives him food and water, protects him and his, and brings him safely back to his fathers house in the place he lived with His father for years . That God would be His God.
  10. Q1. (Genesis 28:3-4) Why does Isaac bless Jacob, especially after Jacob
  11. Q6. Extra Credit. Whose character flaws most remind you of your own? Isaac's, Rebekah's, Esau's, or Jacob's? Why? How is God working to improve your character? I see my character flaws as mostly Jacob;s, as deceptiveness has been something I have been fighting for most of my life especially since pre teen and teen years. God has given me many a lesson thru people I have met or heard talking, He has spoken to me in the scripture studies I have done. He has given me a pastor who is open to listening and talking and has been there for me when I have been in need of counsel. He is also a pastor grounded in the word. A linguist from a missionery bible school. He can explain as you do the meaning of important words in the scripture studies we do on monday night. And answers my emails when I get confused,or just have questions. There are no dumb questions to him especially about God and scripture. And God has put me in very scarry places when I have sinned in the area of deception and I know the phrase be sure your sin will find you out is true. Only I have a couple of times ruined my testamony. I keep having to go round the mountain again I don't learn easily.
  12. Q5. (Genesis 25:28) What happens when your children sense that you love one child more than another? Did such discrimination happen to you when you were growing up? If so, how are you finding healing? How can we as parents love our children equally but differently? When children sense one is loved more than another there is competition, arguements, and alot of times seperation and break up of unity of the family. Unless the parent can give attention to each sibling in diffrent ways. Finding the needed area of which to give attention to each. Then giving a little extra attention to one of the children is not as harmfull as long as each child gets some positive attention at some of the times you interact. What is most harmfull is ignoring a child and giving a host of attention to others. I grew up the eldest of 10 and yes there seemed at timues that there was some of this but not intentional. There were a couple of children who did very well in certain areas be it scholarly, beauty contests or other areas there was emphesis on these individuals. At times. The sister just below me got A's all along and won contests and had to write compositions which she was awarded for. I was slightly jealous of her attention but then I did not put effort into school at that time as she did. I loathed school and she loved school. I don't think any two parents could give l0 children the required attention to form a relationship. they only could attempt a good relationship with some of them. Both Mom and Dad worked alot. Dad most of the time doing his job and moonlighting with another. Mom being home started helping income with wedding cakes she did in the late evennings and then she progressed to house keeping/ bsbysitting for other women/ cafateria head cook. Leaving me to be step mom at home. It all went to my being home where I feel the two just under me should have been given some responsibility. But that is all water over the bridge and life has gone on. I met my savior and that is in the past.
  13. Q4. (Genesis 27:33) Why couldn't Isaac reverse his blessing once he discovers Jacob's trickery? What is Isaac's role in this blessing? What is God's role in it? The blessing that Jacob decieved from Issac was a spiritual blessing of Godly things. It was passed on from generation to generation starting with Abraham to Isaac. Now this spirital set of blessings were really God's blessings to the individual recieving them. Isaac was just the of the blessing. This was God's blessing on the line of Abraham thru Isaac which would continue to the Messiahb when he was born. Jacob had a second blessing of earthly content only. God's part was to make the promise true that he promised to Abraham and his seed. This blessing was more for the next life and the spiritual in life than in the Earthly.
  14. Q3. (Genesis 27:6-29) God had told Rebekah that Jacob is supposed to rule over Esau (Genesis 25:23). To what extent does this excuse her plan to deceive her husband Isaac? How much responsibility does Jacob bear in the deception? Again keeping to my opinion I feel that Rebekah was overstepping her role or right to act with helping decieve Isaac with the clothes , food and skins to disguise her son Jacob. And he is doing just as his mom asks but he knows it is wrong so He shares just as much blame as his mohter they were equal partners in crime. And share the same amt. of responsibility in the deception. God had and has his way of dealing with situations and people that are not deceptive.
  15. Q2. Was Rebekah a spiritual woman, that is, interested in spiritual things? Was Isaac a spiritual man? Which do you think was the more spiritually sensitive? What evidence of spirituality do you see in Jacob? In Esau? In my opinion both Rebekah and Isaac were spiritual and connected to God as far as Isaac would pray for Rebekah to conceive and Rebecca sought God for the reason the twins fought inside her. Yet they had their carnal side and at least Rebekah wanted to help alond Jacob because she knew he was to be the leader from what God said to her. I think Isaac was the more spiritual of the two as he did not participate in any disception and was decieved by both Rebecca and Jacob. That he gave the blessing to Jacob not Esau. It was Gods plan to have Esau serve but God would have worked it out in an honest way not in the way of deception it was done in at least in my opinion. I at this point of the story do not see much spirituality in either Jacob or esau.
  16. Q1. Why does the New Testament condemn Esau for selling his birthright? (Hebrews 12:16-17) What did selling the birthright represent? What does this transaction say about Esau's character and values? What does it reveal bout Jacob's character and values? The New testament condems Esay in Hebrews 12:16 because Jacob sold his birthright for a bowl of stew or porrage. It is considered that this one act of not putting value in the birthright which would have made him the one thru whom the seed Jesus was born into his line of the family but it was despised and he sold it for one meal one little bit of food.He thought so little of a spiritual right and sometimes we make one choice and it has eternal consequences. Esau's values and character were shown thru this transaction as living for the moment for his stomach and his comfort. His birthright represented the right to have the spiritual blessing of having the savior born into his line.Esau had the character of not wanting to wait to be gratified right now. so he was but lost out in greater/future blessings . Esau could wait did not have to be gratified at the minute but he was shown to have a deceptive and gredy character.
  17. The fact that Joseph took Mary as his wife says he was humble of character and believing in the fact that The angels were from God. He submitted to God in this and God's messengers. humble and submissive. Willing to suffer for faith and God's revealed dreams to him. The significance of Joseph nameing the Child meant that Jesus was accepted by Joseph as his own son , In adoption which was done when a child was named the child became a legal part of that man's family and family line. Since Joseph came from the line of David the king this made Jesus a legal decendent of David thru his Adoptive Father Joseph. g
  18. the Child Jesus was born of a Virgin, He was named Jesus. this name meant God with us or the same as immanuel. The fact that this happened just as Isiah's prophesy had suggested says to many people that that old testament prophecy in Isiaha was fulfilled in the Birth of Jesus. That it did not apply to a child born at the time of Isiaha . It meant that God had a plan long ago and that the plan would be fullfilled in God's time. In the order God wanted it to happen The greatest part of this fulfillment being fulfilled in the birth and death and resurrection of Jesus ( God here with us ).
  19. The name Jesus is significant as it means God with Us and Jesus was fully divine nature and Human nature in on Person He was here to fill in and die for us to take our punishment so God His father's conscience would be free to forgive mankind . The Sins of mankind would be paid for because when God looked at mankind the blood of Jesus would cover all the sins we commit and He could accept us as his children thru the intercession of Jesus. I think the Angle told both Joseph and Mary separately thate the Child was to be named Jesus to be a sign that they both had recieved the message and it was like a confirmation to them as a couple that yes the angle was from God and Yes that was the name no question about it we both heard it.So it must be correct and true
  20. Being pregnant out of Wedlock Mary had few options , than to stay home with family but this would lower the standards by which her family was viewed. or Work as a servant in the home of a rich family... No one would Marry her as the stigma would put his status down .... By deciding to divorce Mary quietly Joseph showed that he still cared for Mary and wanted her not to experience to much grief from others and he did not wish her dead and stonned or punished severly. So he would keep it a quiet and experience between him and her family and two witnesses.
