  1. Q2. (Matthew 5:21-22) Why does Jesus treat calling someone a fool in the same classification as murder? Does this mean that murder is no worse than an angry insult in God's eyes? How would we act differently if we actually believed that angry attitudes towards others are viewed by God as murder? Why does Jesus treat calling someone a fool in the same classification as murder? Becuase he knows how much words can hurt, how deep that hurt can go. Its just as if you took a gun to some one and shoot them and killing them. Does this mean that murder is no worse than an angry insult in God's eyes? It kind of puts it on the same level. Just as murder can cause pain for the family. God knows our words are just as deadly unless we learn to control our tongue. How would we act differently if we actually believed that angry attitudes towards others are viewed by God as murder? We would start thinking before we open our mouths. We would think about the affect our words will have on the ones we are speaking to.
  2. Q1. (Matthew 5:17-20) Can you see any tendencies in the church today to effectively "abolish" the Old Testament from our Christian faith? What does a "Christian" legalism look like in a church? What does it look like in a church where there are no moral standards and no obedience expected of Christians? Can you see any tendencies in the church today to effectively "abolish" the Old Testament from our Christian faith? A lot of people see no reason for reading the old testament today. thet say we are to live under the new coventant and there is no reason to go back to the old. What does a "Christian" legalism look like in a church? It's thinking things have to be done the same way all the time. That your way is the right way or you are wrong and going to hell. What does it look like in a church where there are no moral standards and no obedience expected of Christians? It's everyone doing there own thing thinking its everyone else that is wrong but not them.
  3. Q4. (Matthew 5:13-15) How do verses 13-16 relate to verses 10-12? How does hiding our light affect the glory of God? Why must glory and suffering go hand in hand? Was Jesus' suffering necessary? Is ours? What does this have to do with Romans 12:2? How do verses 13-16 relate to verses 10-12? That we should stand out for what we believe. Instead of hiding we should be happy. How does hiding our light affect the glory of God? If we hide the light then no one can see God. No one will know his love and mercy for them if we refuse to let our lights be seen. Was Jesus' suffering necessary? Yes or could have never payed for our sins. Is ours? Yes or we wouldn't grow into the person he wants us to be. What does this have to do with Romans 12:2? The change our thinking so that we can be the salk and the light that he talks about in the world.
  4. Q3. (Matthew 5:14-15) In the parable of "the light of the world," Jesus notes the stupidity of lights being hidden under bowls. Concerning what danger in the life of a Christian disciple does Jesus warn us in this parable? A christian that would hide his light is living in fear. Afraid of what others will think. What might be the symptoms of a Christian who has lost his "saltiness"? One that maybe has a bad attitude. Doesn't really care about others. Is it possible for a believer to detect such symptoms in himself or herself? We should be able to tell if are not living like we shoulh by the Holy Spirits conviction in our lives. What do secular people notice about a "de-saltified" Christian? That we have become no differnt than them. Our personalities has changed to be more like the world, instead of being a witness for Christ. What do other Christians notice about you? That we have lost our joy and our peace. An attitude change. Is it possible to "resaltify" your life? Yes with the help of Jesus we can start being hungry for him again and doing the things that draws us closer to him. We can get back into the word and talking to him so that our peace and the joy of the Lord can return to us.
  6. Q1. (Matthew 5:13) In what sense are Christians the "salt of the earth" using the preservation analogy? In what sense are Christians the "salt of the earth" using the seasoning analogy? In what sense are Christians the "salt of the earth" using the preservation analogy? We preserve it by praying for the world so that they can be saved so that God's wrath doesn't come down on them. In what sense are Christians the "salt of the earth" using the seasoning analogy? We are the salt of the world by keeping our faith in him strong and showing the love of Christ in us. And being a witness to draw others to Christ.
  7. Q6. (Matthew 5:10-11) Why should we rejoice when we are persecuted? What keeps this from being some kind of sick masochism, or finding pleasure in pain? Why is the blessing "for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" appropriate for the persecuted? Why should we rejoice when we are persecuted? Because in the end it pleases God. We canrejoice knowing it will only draw us closer to the Lord. we can rejoice in the fact if our relationship with Jesus is bothering some one else their heart has been touched and it bothers them so they take it out on us. We should rejoice because it may turn them around for Christ if they see it doesn't affectus the way they want it to. What keeps this from being some kind of sick masochism, or finding pleasure in pain? We may never see joy in being persecuted but when we are being persecuted it means others are seeing Jesus and it bothers them so they work to make us feel bad. we just need to go right on being happy and showing them that nothing that will do to us will get us us to change how we feel about Jesus. Why is the blessing "for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" appropriate for the persecuted? Becuase they have push past the persecutions and have kept the mind of Crist through it all drawing us closer to him.
  8. Q5. (Matthew 5:8) Why can people with a pure heart see, know, and discern God? Why can't "chronic" sinners see God? How do we obtain the pure or clean heart that Jesus describes? Why can people with a pure heart see, know, and discern God? Thosw with a pure heart don't have sins blocking them from being able to see and discern the things of God. They have love and mercy for others instead of hate. We can see things more clearly by looking a things through seeing things God's way instead of our own way. Why can't "chronic" sinners see God? They can not see God because they can only see from the worlds perspective. To their life styles of sin blockes them from having a pur heart. What promise are we given in this Beatitude? How can an intense desire for righteousness put you at odds with the world? Because we desire the rightousness that comes from God, not mans rightousness. The world is against the people who do wrong instead of just the wrong thing they did. God's rightousness helps us to help the person so the wrong so they do can be made right. What kind of mourning is a common experience of Christians? (See Isaiah 61:2-3; Ezekiel 9:4.) Why is it necessary to be aware of your spiritual poverty before you can become a Christian? If we are not spiritually poor, we are not ready to see the need to become a christian. Sometimes we feel we are doing ok on our own and don't need a savior. What kind of mourning is necessary for a person to become a Christian? That they should see that they are sinners and the need to repent and turn to Jesus who came to save them. What kind of mourning is a common experience of Christians? It should cause us to mourn when we see the ways of the world. 12. Q1. (Matthew 5:3-11) Each Beatitude consists of two parts. What are these parts? Why do you think Jesus made each Beatitude a paradox? What is the relationship of the Beatitudes to the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)? Each Beatitude consists of two parts. What are these parts? 1. Those who are blessed 2. Those that are seeking after God and his kimgdom Why do you think Jesus made each Beatitude a paradox? He wanted us to to have something to think about. And dig the truths out for ourselves. If we have to study it we will learn more how to apply it to our lives. When we go by what someone else has learned we may miss the one thing he wanted us to grasp from the teaching. What is the relationship of the Beatitudes to the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)? Both are to help us to become more like Jesus.

Sometimes it can be a group from work or just those you hang out with. doesn't need to be a position that is only done in a church setting. We can be mentors to those outside the church and to new Christians to help them grow. What must a church do if its "senior pastor" doesn't have the spiritual gift of pastor? There is usually someone else in the church that can do that. Anyone that knows the word and the truth of how to apply it can help those that need help in the church and fulfill that position.

How can we encourage and stimulate the Spirit-gifted evangelists in our midst? How can we stir up the gift of evangelism among members of our congregations? We would have to feel the need to win lost souls to Christ. And to give me a hunger for God so that many would want to return to Christ. What might be the earmarks of a person with this gift? Someone with Love for Jesus and cares about people and where they are going. How can we encourage and stimulate the Spirit-gifted evangelists in our midst? By praying for them and with them.

To make sure the word they are teaching is the truth of God. What needs do our congregations and regional groupings of churches have that an apostle might meet? To get right literature that is going to help their churches grow together in Christ. How might we detect false apostles? Bye reading the word four ourselves and testing what is taught against when we have learned from the truth in God's word. 2 timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. If we don't do what this verse says how can we know that we are being taught wrong? He had to read and study for ourselves so that we will know the truth when we hear it.

How much energy must we expend on Christian unity? We must give it all we got. It is far better to be in unity with Christ and with each other than to go against each other. Nothing works if we are not together on it. What is "the bond of peace"? The bond holds us together. Without the bond of peace there would be no peace. How do we strike at peace when we are intent on argument and dissension? We have to see that arguing is getting us no where. We have to let go of the arguing or we will never have peace.
  18. Q2. (Ephesians 4:2) Why are patience and humility so important to preserving unity? What happens to the reputation of Jesus Christ when we have right doctrine along with a sense of arrogance towards those who disagree with us? How are we to be both "gentle" and to "fight the good fight of faith"? Why are patience and humility so important to preserving unity? Without either it would be hard to be who God intends us to be. We we can be patient and walk in humility its easier to walk in love than when we don't have either one. What happens to the reputation of Jesus Christ when we have right doctrine along with a sense of arrogance towards those who disagree with us? We make him look bad when that happens. We need tow alk in love and let his love flow out into others. How are we to be both "gentle" and to "fight the good fight of faith"? We are to do everything out of our love for him. If we learn to love even correction is easier to take.

What would be different in your life if bringing God glory was your most important job, bar none? What might be different in your own congregation if bringing glory to God were considered the very most important function of the church? We would see more life and power in our churches. Our worship would have new meaning. What would be different in your life if bringing God glory was your most important job, bar none? I would have a closer walk with him and see more power in my own life.
  21. Q3. (Ephesians 3:16, 19) What does it mean to be "filled with the Spirit" (verse 16)? Is this a one-time experience or a continual reality? What can we do to be filled with the Spirit? Is it different or the same as being "filled with all the fullness of God" (verse 19)? What does it mean to be "filled with the Spirit" (verse 16)? To fully know him. To remove the things that do not belong and to give our lives completely over to him to do as he wills in our lives. Is this a one-time experience or a continual reality? Its a day to day thing. We have to keep seeking him and his forgiveness each day to continue to be filled with his Spirit. What can we do to be filled with the Spirit? Repent of any sin in our lives and to live for him daily. Is it different or the same as being "filled with all the fullness of God" I think its the same. We can't know the fullness of God without his filling us with his Spirit.
  22. Q2. (3:18-19) What kinds of things prevent us from comprehending the far reaches of Christ's love? What happens in the way we live when we do Comprehend, know, and experience this love? What would be different about your life if you could grasp this? (3:18-19) What kinds of things prevent us from comprehending the far reaches of Christ's love? We can only see how others respond to our love. Out love is limited and I think it blocks us from comprehending how deep his love really is for us. What happens in the way we live when we do comprehend, know, and experience this love? Its overwhelming. It mind boggling. Its wonderful. It helps us to love others just because his love has no limits. What would be different about your life if you could grasp this? My love for him would become deeper and would give me a stronger desire to be in his presences all the time.
  23. Q1. (Ephesians 3:16-17) Do the concepts of (a) strengthened by the Spirit in the inner person, and ( Christ dwelling in our hearts say the same thing, or are they separate and distinct ideas? What do you think? I think they are the same thing. Both cause us to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit and by Christ. The Holy Spirit encourages our inner man in prayer, and Christ gives us strength in knowing he is there for us.
  24. Q3. (Ephesians 3:7-9) Why is Paul so careful to be humble about his call and apostleship? How can his example help us remain as humble servants? Why is Paul so careful to be humble about his call and apostleship? Becuase he knows who he is, but doesn't want to give the others the impression that he is better than them since he sees himself as the chief of sinners. He does not want to turn people away from coming to christ. How can his example help us remain as humble servants? To remember we were once where they are should keep us humble to have compassion for the ones that are there now.
