  1. Q4. (3:17-18) With what tool do peacemakers sow peace? Why does this produce a ripening crop of righteousness? In whom does this crop grow? The first is always with love one for another. The fruit of the Spirit is love and we know that also holds in it joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance. Gal. 5:22/23 This will grow in those that seek the Lord first and put others before them. It will grow in one that is seeking God and living to the best of all that is with in them to be like Jesus. We have the example for us to follow and if we do what we see them do in the word then we will see the things we need crow in us.
  2. Q3. (3:13-16) In what ways are "bitter envy" and "selfish ambition" (3:14) direct opposites of "humility" (3:13)? How does denial of "bitter envy" and "selfish ambition" prevent healing? How does boasting about these prevent healing? Bitter envy and selfish ambition are looking out for one self and not caring about the lives of others. It is putting self first and that is not a kind thing to do. We do not reflect Jesus when we put self first for with him self is always last. And with us we need to always have in our hearts and mind the order in which we are to think and speak and that is Jesus first then others and you. That is a wonderful way to spell JOY. When you are putting self first you do not see what others need or have anything on your mind but yourself. You have to be able to step outside of self to forgive others and if we do not forgive others we cannot receive forgiveness from God. We are to love one another and put the others in before ourselves. Ambition is too easily entwined with other motivations. We wrap ambitions in our own sense of self-worth, and so achievement of our goals is no longer pure. It is no longer to accomplish God's goals in life. It is also to vindicate our own selves, and to highlight our own achievements. Lofty ambitions become convenient blinds from which to further our own objectives of popularity, power, and prosperity. Any time you put self first you do not heal it is like you take Jesus out of all that is going on around you. We need to keep in mind that he has to be first and others second in our lives and then we can look at a better way for us to grow and get ahead. Then we have put things in the right order and we will be able to be healed.
  3. Q2. (3:7-8) Read Matthew 12:34 and 15:18. In light of these verses, why is the tongue untamable? What has to happen before it can be tamed? It is what is in a mans heart what he has put there that will always come out of the mouth. We may think we are being careful what we read and what we let others teach us but we need always to make sure we don't listen to gossip or anything that is not in line with the word of God. Even the things we hear go into our hearts and then we will be speaking them if we let them stay there. We must bridal the tongue in order to get it under any kind of control and we have to do this with the word of God. It is like with any animal or ship it is a small thing hard to stop from speaking the things we have let enter our minds but it can be done with the word of God and lots of prayer. Still it is evil and hard to tame and we know none are perfect no not one and we need to work hard at this. Without salvation there is no way to try to tame the tongue we need the help of the Lord and the Holy Ghost.
  4. Q1. (3:1-2) Why does James discourage people from aspiring to be teachers of the Word? Why is greater strictness appropriate? Should you set higher standards for your pastor than you do for yourself? The ones they teach are trusting them to know the truth to have been in the word and checking to make sure what the teach is the truth not to take anyone else's word for it. We shall be accountable for every word that come out of our mouths so we must make sure it is the right word of God not the words we think. Pastors are held as a higher truth and we depend on them to know the truth and never tell us anything wrong. They are humans still but they as teachers will be judged stricter and maybe even more than a teacher. They have a great responsibility to those that they lead they are like the shepherd with sheep they are responsible for each one that they are pastor too.
  5. Q4. (2:20-26) How does James' point about the necessity of works jive with Paul's emphasis on salvation by grace without works (Ephesians 2:8-10)? James and Paul both taught that you need faith and works and they both knew they go together and without one the other is dead. We need to put into action all the things we say God can do and will do. Our faith can't stand alone and they knew that so we need to read and learn to do what is right and keep doing it till the answer is with us and we have more faith to stand upon. James point is not a contrast between faith and works but between a real faith, a faith that does works, and a false faith, one that doesn't do anything for anyone but self and those in family. Also, Paul's context is the relationship between the believer and God, while James's context is the relationship between the believer and his neighbor. James was teaching to love your neighbor and Paul teaching to love everyone. Both men are right and we can learn from them both if we just read and except the truth.
  6. Q3. (2:18-19) What is the difference between the "belief" of a demon and the "belief" of a practicing Christian? The "belief" of a non-practicing Christian? A demon is a spirit an evil one but still moves in the spiritual world. He knows of God and was at one time that worshiped God as did Satan himself. They know and fear God so they have seen him in action. Still even though they fear him they do wrong things the belief they have is not faith it is seeing what God can do. The belief of a practicing Christian is the faith in God for what he has done and for what is written in the word of God we know we can stand on that faith and he will not fail us. God cannot lie the word makes that clear so we believe his word. A non-praticing Christian is filled with knowledge and not doing anything about it. That is so sad and the person will not grow. They do not read the word to learn they do not step out in faith to see the miracles of God. We all know those that do this and we need to reach out to them to help them see they need more in their lives than just to sit and do nothing.
  7. Q2. (2:15-16) To what degree are we responsible for the poor and needy in the church community? How about our responsibility for those outside the church, in the community at large? Even as far back as Cain and Able we know that we are our brothers keeper. God ask Cain about Able and God already knew that Cain had killed him. The ground cried out that his blood was there. We know we are blessed if we help others and give all we can to help them. God supplies our needs so why would we not help others. We need to be our brothers and sisters keepers. We are to be kind to all the same way as much as is possible. How can you reach others if you never give of yourself or of the things they need? They should see God in us and know of his love through us and we do this by reaching out to all not just Christians. We are the hands of the Lord we need to do what is needed for all in need.
  8. Q1. (2:14-18) In what sense is faith dead if it is unaccompanied by action? In what sense might (if that were possible) it be alive? Faith is wonderful we all need and must have it. The thing with faith is that it don't do on its on. We can have the best of intentions and still nothing get down without putting our faith into action. We want all our brothers and sisters to prosper and to have all they need. God supplies all our needs according to his riches in glory. What a wonderful statement that is and it is true. The thing is God uses people like me and you to give the things that are needed. He can drop them out of the air yes with him all things are possible. He put us here to be a blessing so we are his hands of mercy and his love when we put faith into action. Like anything that is alive faith is best when alive and moving. It can be there like a rock and never do anything but it is always nicer to see a tree with leaves and branches over that rock so we have those that will do and those that will not. Those that do and put faith into action will grow and the rock or those that sit and do nothing have all they will get. Thank you Lord we can let our faith grow and experience the things he has for us to do and help others.
  9. Q4. (2:13b) In what way is showing regard towards the wealthy (2:2-3) a denial of mercy? God shows mercy to all alike. When we show mercy to only the wealthy we are leaving them out of the mercy of God he does not hole one person higher than another. He uses all that will chose to be used of him. God is no respecter of person he is the same toward all and we need to be the same to all. We need to tell the whole world that Jesus loves them rich or poor it is all the same. Extra credit: Read Hosea 6:6; Matthew 5:7; and 9:13. In what way does mercy "triumph over" (NIV, RSV, NASB) or "rejoice against" (KJV) judgment? What does this mean? When we show mercy we are doing what God wants us to do. He set the example by giving his only begotten son on the cross for our sins. We have been set free by the mercy of Jesus to die for our sins. We are not to place judgment over others for he did not judge us he saved us from sin. Thank you Jesus. WE are to forgive as he has forgiven us and took our sins upon him. Mercy wins out each time and judgment is for God not for people.
  10. Q3. (2:9-11) Why does James refer to the Great Commandment as the
  11. Q2. (2:4) In what way does favoritism make one a judge? How does favoritism make one a judge with
  12. Q1. (2:1-3) What kind of person or what kind of sinner do you tend to discriminate against? What kind of people are you (or your church) trying to make a good impression on? Those that set out to hurt other human being is hard for me to deal with. I do not understand how anyone can hurt a child or abuse their families. I think it is hard if you have never done that to think of them even as being humans. God loves them and I must love them to be a child of God. They are also ones that I need to pray for more and except and reach out to help them see they need to except the Lord into their lives and change the things they are doing and let love of Jesus lead them to a better way. I am not out to please man and I thank God that the church I go too is not out to do that either. We try to be the same with all people that is one of the reasons I choose this place to worship in. God is real and from what I can see we are doing our best to reach all people. Thank you Jesus.
  13. Q4. (1:26-27) Why does James make taming the tongue and caring for the poor the prime tests of pure religion? Why not the quality of our quiet time or worship? The tongue being a small member of the body is still the hardest thing to tame. We can curse God and bless God with the same tongue. We know it is hard to control every word that comes out of our mouths and it is hard to care for the poor. That mean self denial and we don't want to do that. Human nature tells us to take care of ourselves and we know the word says to take care of the poor the widows and orphans. When we can do all this we will have pure religion without fault and we will be living in the word of God not in self. Our quite time and worship time is for us to be built up and for us to get closer to Jesus. We need to do this as much as possible but first we put the word of God into action and help others and do Gods work.
  14. Q3. What is this "perfect law" that James mentions? How would you define it? How does it relate to the "royal law" (2:8)? In what sense does it bring liberty? The perfect law is love of God and your neighbor as yourself. God is always first them other and you that is the perfect way to spell joy and any that do that the love of God will be first. The royal law is the love of Jesus that we are to love others and to respect them and help in all areas we can. We need love to be an action not a word. Perfect love casts out all fear the word tells us and we know that fear if not of God.
  15. Q2. (1:22) Why are we so easily fooled into thinking that listening to Bible teaching means that we are living out righteous lives? What is the nature of the self-deception? Faith without works is dead and the word tells us that when we think we stand that is when we seem to fall. We can't depend on what we feel or what we think while here on this earth we need to depend totally on the word of God and then we will not find ourselves thinking we are righteous. None are perfect we can all use improvement and we all need more of the Lord in our lives. Thinking we are something when we are truly nothing except what God has made us to be is self-deception. We are only what God makes us and we are willing to do for him. We have to be careful Satan is out to destroy all he can and when we get into self that is when we fall.
  16. Q1. (1:18) In what sense are we given spiritual birth by the "word of truth"? What does spiritual life have to do with the Word? The word is life to a Christian. We can't just listen to it and go on we have to live it. We need to dig into it for ourselves. What others can teach us is wonderful and lead us to understanding. If we want God to speak to us we need to read his word. He speaks still today though his word. Thank you Lord. Life and death are in the word of God we need to read it and learn it so we live for him.
  17. Q1. (1:18) In what sense are we given spiritual birth by the "word of truth"? What does spiritual life have to do with the Word? It is only through the faith we obtain from the word of God the truth that we are born again. The word was God and He put the word above his name. There for we are to except the word to be born again and know him as he is and always will be. Be doing of the word and not hears only is what we have learned in James and if we are not going to obey then it is a waste of time to read the word so for us to have spiritual life we have to do what is written in the word.
  18. Q2. (1:13-15) Why do people blame God for evil? Does God tempt us with evil? Does he tempt sinful people with evil? Why does he allow people to sin? Why does he allow evil to exist at all? Adam was the first one to shift the blame over and he blamed God for giving him woman Eve. After that it seems all mankind still wants to blame God for all that is bad. God does not tempt us with evil as we have read in James James 1:13 says, Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man. Neither tempteth he any man so do he does not temp people with evil. James 1:14 says, But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own ****, and enticed. Man decides what he will do in this life. We have free will and make our own choses and it is up to us to decide if we will let evil in us or not. Pro 16:4 The LORD hath made all [things] for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
  19. Q1. (1:2-4) What value have trials had in your life? Have you let Satan destroy you with those trials? Or allowed God to refine you? How have you changed? The valleys or trials is where we do most of our growing in the Lord Jesus Christ he is there with us to help us and we only have to go through things one time if we learn the first time is what I have learned. I am changing all the time reaching new high's and praising God for everything and praying without ceasing and we are so blessed to be able to live where we can worship and pray and read the word of God the Bible the truth from our living God. Thank you Jesus for all you do for us and in us.
  20. God wants us to be bold in his word and his ways he don't want us to be pushy he will chose whom he will and we have to be like Peter on the day of pentacost and say what he gives us to say. We have been told that he will supply even the words for us to speak to go boldly and the Holy Ghost will tell us what to say give us the words. God wants us to pray for others and to trust him to answer the prayers and we have have to keep asking for he said ask and you shall receive. So God wants us today to be the same as Abraham was and Paul and Peter was boldly come before him. We do not need to always be asking for something for ourselves or our family we need to stand in the gab for others that are not able to stand at that moment. I love the word JOY Jesus Others, You that is the way God wants it to be and when we are always saying give ME he has always put an if on all his promises.
  21. Q3. (18:19) In your own words, describe what a lifestyle of "keeping the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just" looks like in the twenty-first century. In what ways is this difficult? In what ways is this easy? What are the special challenges? It is not just reading the word but as I have said being a doer of the word and faith will spring up in you and God will use you. It looks different to us because we are not fully trusting in God for all things the way we should we need to have more of him in our lives and do what he has told us to do. Today it seems all are religious and not many really know who Jesus or God are it is the in thing at this time in life to be religious but it is not the in thing to serve the God of creation and to know his son Jesus personially and to follow in his work and word. Today all want to be christian or religious but most do not do what it takes to stay in the will of our Lord.
  22. By being what GOD has called them to me spiritual and Godly men. By setting examples for them to see. Read the word and do the word is the best thing a man can do to lead his children. He should bring up his children in the care and admonition of the Lord. Be more than a reader of the word be a doer of the word. Then the children wife and all will fall into place. Jesus told us that a mans body is his wifes and his wifes body is his and it they will respect each other all things will work out for them if they keep God in the center he will balance the relationship for them. He has to be first at all times. God will not take second place in any life. Being submissive does not mean you are going to go against the will of God it means God first them your husband then the children balance is very important in serving God.
  23. God does not change we change but he never does he will always do miracle as he did in the old he will continue in the new. He will use a willing vessel to do the miracles through like he did with Peter and Paul. He will use all if they are willing to let him. Mark 16: 15-18 tells us what we are to be doing. Mat 21: 22 tells us to ask what we will and he will do it. The only thing that stops miracles in our lives is lack of faith in GOD. Really the lack of faith in Jesus Christ for he is GOD also. The three cannot be taken apart and today the Holy Ghost is with us as it was in the upper room on the day of pentacost and we today see miracles still. Priase the Lord.
  24. It is the cutting away of the worldly things that are in our hearts that are not pleasing to our GOD. It show a way of getting the things that are not pleasing to GOD out of you. We talk to God today and believe what he says in his word, we keep it alive through faith in him and the knowing Jesus was the son of the living GOD. We have to read his word and learn from it to be pleasing to him. I have to say I am not always right where GOD would have me to be. I strive to be perfect but we know none is perfect no not one the word says. We should love our neighbor more than ourselves I can't say I show that all the time but I pray God will help me with this.
  25. It shows Abraham obedience to God. No question ask he was going to do it right then. It was a reminder to Abraham of what God had promised him and his generations. Abraham faith was without dough it was shown by the way his obedience of the same day he was told to do it. We all need to do things when God speaks to our hearts.
