Q4. Never Give Up

Recommended Posts

Q4. (Ezra 6:1-12) When faced with "insurmountable odds," why do we give up so easily? What are the characteristics of a disciple who retains a robust faith in the God of amazing breakthroughs and impossible solutions?

1. We listen to the devil. We feel like there is no way out and it is easier to give up than to obey God. We let depression get the best of us. Our trust in God disappears or becomes wavering.

 2.  We put our trust in God and believe that he will handle everything when we are obedient.

When faced with insurmountable odds people give up easily because of lack of faith in the God, actually we do not have any alternative but we simply have doubt weather we should wait upon the Lord or not in certain cases the alternative is get carried away in unbelief and follow the worldly. We should overcome this situation by faith alone.

The characteristics of a disciple is the have faith in Almighty God all the time in all the circumstances, including the most impossible situations. Because to our God is everything is possible. Lord says that we see people externally but our God see what we cannot including the inner self and the heart, should walk by the word of God and immolate Christ the ways He showed and walked.

When faced with “insurmountable odds,” we sometimes give up so easily when our faith in God is not where it should be.  The characteristics of a disciple who retains a robust faith in the God of amazing breakthroughs and impossible solutions is one who lives in the realm of the supernatural where God resides. Leaving the natural, where Satan rules behind.

somewhat related to previous response of moving forward without necessary Prayer and patience attending a response; in this particular, when confronted with major obstacles/surmountable odds quite easy (tempting?) to take these as "sign of the times" and rationalize "caving" as God'sWill now being more clearly visable.  End or on-going results is always "blowing in the wind"

When faced with insurmountable odds we often give up to what might seem "easily" because we are human and are subject to attitudes within us as the result of the various kinds of push back to our Christian walk and service.

Those that overcome only overcome by the grace and strength of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  They don't take their eyes off Christ.

I think most of us give up when we face difficulties, not just insurmountable odds, because we are self-oriented and committed to ourselves before God.  We make plans we think will benefit us but when we encounter difficulties, we decide that the difficulties destroy the benefits and we quit.

A Christian who perseveres in faithful service to God in the face of difficulties is a person who

--- believes God knows everything, is present everywhere always, and is all-powerful,

--- believes God is sovereign and controls everything, and as our Creator, has the right to do whatever He wants with us,

--- seeks direction and wisdom from God for all his endeavors:  studying and meditating on Scripture to see what it teaches and how that applies to this particular situation,

--- prays a lot about everything, and

---has picked up his cross and is following Jesus willingly to his death because overcoming these difficulties may, no ... will, result in great loss, disability, and even human death.  (Matthew 10:38-39, 16:24-26; Mark 8:34-38; Luke 9:23-26, 14:27)

I think when I hit barriers, I back off, assuming I was not really on track with what I was supposed to be doing.   it is so easy to doubt oneself and one's reading of what God wants.   A disciple who is sure is confident, faithful,  persistent, dedicated.

James 3v17,18

Wisdom that comes from Heaven is first of all pure; then peace loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy, and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

When we give up we lack this heavenly wisdom but also we are not clinging on to God which is what we must do when times are really tough. We forget His promises when we are face with difficult circumstances Joshua 1v9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. He may not remove the hard situation but He will surely go through it with us. We must trust and know in our hearts that He can bring up through everything that can possibly happen to us.

Lack of faith and succumbing easily to ideas that seem to give a sense comfort even if temporary -

A disciple with robust faith would continue doing what is right in God's eyes while offering up prayers of faith even as opposition persists. Prayers will keep one's spirit up and bringing to mind God's promises will sustain an unflagging spirit when faced with 'insurmountable odds' . This faith comes with being in the Lord's Word and with constant communication with Him, which helps build up faith, so when the rubber hits the road, it does not cause any deviation from the path towards the objective.

Haggai and Zachariah were the voices that held up the spirit of the builders of the temple while the building was being opposed. They urged the Israelites on, urging and advising them to move forward with the project.
