Q4. Servant's Heart

Recommended Posts

Why is Samuel's servant attitude such an important preparation for hearing God's voice?

Having a servant attitude, means that you are willing to hear Father voice, and willing to obey and serve Him where He calls you to serve. Father knows our hearts and minds, therefore knows when we are ready to hear His voice, we have to submit to Him and be willing, desiring to hear it, with all our hearts.

Why is surrender to Jesus such an important element of discipleship?

We have to desire in our hearts to be more like Christ, to preach the Gospel, The Kingdom of God, to become His disciples, therefore our hearts, minds, lives, desires must be surrendered to Him so that the Spirit of Abba can fill us up, and guide our steps. We have to surrender to Jesus to become more like Jesus, He is the only way.

Love and blessing to you all. Xx

Samuel is such a sweet child. It is easy to imagine him waiting to hear God's voice, and then finally believing it is God Himself who is speaking.

--To be a servant is to be like little Samuel. Samuel had to obey Eli before he could obey God, interestingly. He had to be willing to say the words that Eli told him to speak.

--To be a servant is to see yourself in a lesser role, one less influential, powerful or important.

Powerful people don't surrender, only those who know they are weak or lesser, so surrendering and servanthood are attitudes that conflate.

Q4. Samuel was instructed by his mentor Eli, to address God as Lord because it shows that Samuel is aware of who is speaking and his superiority over Samuel. Samuel refers to himself as “your servant” , here we see Samuel in full submission to his God. It is only when we are humble and in full submission that we can hope to hear the Lord speaking to us. Samuel was also listening , this is another way of being submissive. He was not trying to put in his ideas or opinions. He was engaged in active listening. This is also a lesson to us to give time to listening to God and to be always talking.
