That explains why Jesus was so interested in the temple and its significance to the religion of the people. As a child He listened and answered questions showing great knowledge and understanding for one His age. This set the scene for His later interaction with the teachers from the temple. All through His life on earth He met, listened and challenged them. Jesus understood His mission on earth was to reflect the will of God. He started revealing Himself and His mission at this early meeting with the priests in the temple. He also publically stated His relationship with God as His Father. Jesus, the Son of God, was interested in the proper worship of God by the Jews. To quote scripture: "Zeal for your house will consume me."(John 2:17; Psalms 69:9). Christ was a man, so he learned like any man learns -- through experience. In his life he took the measure of the teachers of the law. brad griffin Posted December 27, 2002 Report Share Posted December 27, 2002 it was important for Jesus to develop relations early with these teaching leaders to help establish that He was no ordinary man.His great comprehension of their discussions helped validate His increasing authority as he grew older. it was also important for him to learn the incorrect doctrines these men were teaching to be prepared to later correct them. It was a necessity for him, to prepare him for his later role of teacher and to facilitate his relationship with his heavenly Father. Mario Angel Posted January 18, 2003 Report Share Posted January 18, 2003 The temple was the heart of the Jewish religion at that time, was the religion center for Israel as for the gentiles, Jesus interest in the temple and the elders would be manifested later on during His ministry. The exchange of ideas between Jesus and the elders would help Him later on to improve His teachings and His own life. We as Christians must go to church and listen to those who have more experience in the knowledge of the word of God, listen to our preachers, Sunday school teachers and elders of our church to gain in wisdom and to be prepared to transfer that knowledge to the future generation of Christians. mllwrghtswf Posted December 15, 2004 Report Share Posted December 15, 2004 I believe that he was in the templ to learn the ways of his people, and to see their relationship with each other through the scriptures. Jesus being a man himself in the flesh was sitting among his peers in the flesh. It was necesssary for him to be obedient to The Father and to submit to the authority of his peers was necessary for the fulfillment of the scriptures. Brendamay Posted April 8, 2008 Report Share Posted April 8, 2008 Even as a little Child, Jesus was aware that he was somehow, Gods Son, he was very intelligent, and knew a lot of the scriptures. He wanted to learn as much as he could, about God his Father, He was learning all that he needed to know, for The future. He enjoyed dissussions and Praying in the temple. How was this interaction with Jerusalem's top teachers important for his own development? The interaction with Jerusalem's top teachers was important to Jesus for his own development because it answered questions that he had and I believe this gave him an opportunity to know the level of spiritual intelligence or scriptural insight of the teachers. How did this represent something that was absolutely necessary for him to do? How did this relate to his calling?
