Q4. Head of the Body, the Church

Recommended Posts

Q4. (Colossians 1:18) How should the assertion that Jesus is the "head of the body, the church" affect the way we conceive of the church?

We should never forget who the Supreme Head of the Church is and should follow His lead.

Is he talking about the universal church or a local congregation, or both?

He is talking about both the universal church and the local congregation.

If we believe that Jesus is the head of the church, how should that affect the way we conduct our life and ministry as the church?

Serving Him should be the church

Q4. (Colossians 1:18) How should the assertion that Jesus is the "head of the body, the church" affect the way we conceive of the church? Is he talking about the universal church or a local congregation, or both? If we believe that Jesus is the head of the church, how should that affect the way we conduct our life and ministry as the church? In what ways does the visible church represent the "head"? How well do we as the body follow his leadership?

Answer:That Jesus is the Head,Leader,of the Body, and without the Head the body cant function in full coordination, and that the church can only function as God intended it to be,by constantly following the brain or the Head, which is Christ Jesus.

He is talking about the Universal, and local congregation church, that it is the intention of God to bring all the believers into one body, united in the LORDSHIP of JESUS CHRIST.(Matthew 16:16-And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.)

If we believe that Jesus is the head of the church,we should follow the Head,.and that Jesus is in us,our life should manifest the fullness of the Fruit of the Spirit(Gal 3;22-23),and that church ministry should be according to his will to reach out and teach among all the nations Christ Jesus Lordship, and the good news about salvation, till we come into unity of faith(Ephesians 4:13- Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:)

The visible Church should represent the Head, according to the Word, spoken the universal hierarchy of virtue that Jesus has come to earth to show Love, and to Love God above all,and continue spreading the Gospel(Matthew 22:37- Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.)..(Matthew 28:20- Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world Amen.

We follow His Leadership by doing what He says, as what he direct us to do,and act as he says.Trust and Obey Him.

I think it is easy to forget that Christ is the head of the church and to take on all the burdens of ministry ourselves. We feel guilty for failing and too responsible for other people's choices. While we need to be obedient and listen to the Spirit, ministry and the church are not all about us nor all up to us. That said, the visible church represents Christ to the world that doesn't know him. We need to remember that we are what the world sees and that our primary purpose is to love God and others. We so often as a church get caught up in making sure our "rights" are acknowledged, our various politics publicized. Ministry becomes all about meeting these goals, and we soon forget about those waiting outside the flock.

I actually have a question instead of an answer. Point seven talks about Jesus being the first to rise from the dead, but he wasn't was he? He caused people to rise from the dead while he lived on earth. Could someone shed some insight on this for me?

We should see the church and all aspects of its meaning, as the building is the Father’s house, and the members is the body of Christ, and He is the authority over it -- not the pastor. Jesus is the Head of the church meaning He is the Head over His own body. The senior pastor is the shepherd of the flock in the church and takes direction from Jesus. I believe that the pastor plays a major part in the life of the church and can shape the demeanor and personality of the church (for example, controlling pastors can be intimidating). Then there are many different personalities, agendas, and motives, which occur in the church that I am sure Jesus is not always pleased about.

The church today and the seven churches in the Book of Revelation are very much related with two exceptions…the media and technology. Both play a large part in the church today and can sway some to become places of entertainment more so than deliverers of God’s true message (the gospel, saving souls, deliverance, etc.). Instead of preaching and teaching biblical truths, some messages speak what people want to hear in fear of losing members, which can be misleading. Church should be conducted in a manner that is acceptable to Jesus, not man.

Christ being one with God enables us, as Christ being head of the church (1 Cor 11.3), to place our trust in the church.

paul is referring, for our day when there are so many denominations, to both.

We should devote all of our hearts minds and spirits to the church for Christ is its head.

The church is not the head- Christ is the head of the church.

Well, I would say that at many times and places the church has missed the point and failed to recognize Christ as head of the church. There have been so many schisms in the church caused mainly by pig headed folk who wre unable to see beyond their own little sty. Christ looks at the big picture, and calls all into the fold-rich and poor, male and female, Jews and Christians and Moslems, slave and free. All are to be gathered in to the fold.
