Emergency Aid for Eldoret, Kenya
Following
the presidential elections in Kenya on December 27, 2007, in protest for what
they considered stealing the election, there was violence all over Kenya,
especially in Eldoret and Western Kenya. Hundreds were killed and thousands were
burned out of their homes, leaving a humanitarian disaster.
Through the help of our online Bible study students we were able to send aid to Eldoret within just a few days through Pastor Chriss Barasa Lusweti, senior pastor of the Word of Life Harvest Church in Langas Estate, a suburb of Eldoret. At one point in the crisis over 900 people sought protection in his church's compound.
Here are several pictures Pastor Chriss sent of one the food distributions. The President of Kenya visited Eldoret and assigned four soldiers to Pastor Chriss for security during the food distribution.

Here the food you purchased is delivered to the
Show Grounds in Eldoret ready for distribution.

Once it was announced that food was available
hundreds of hungry people lined up.

A soldier in a tree surveys the crowd to keep
order. Pastor Chriss is standing in the background
above the crowd.

Portions of rice and beans are distributed to
literally hundreds of hungry families.

To give food to hungry people in Jesus' name is
an immense privilege. Praise God that we could
help.
Reports on January 29 were not good. Many have left Eldoret to go to their hometowns where it is safer. Last night in Eldoret the police brought many families from their homes to the police station compound for safety -- safe but outside in the cold.
Please continue to pray for Kenya during the continuing political tension and occasional violence.
- Pray for the people who are homeless, the quarter of a million who have fled the violence and are away from their homes and jobs.
- Pray for the pastors and churches.
- Pray for Eldoret Mayor K.T. Maiyo and for the government of Kenya as they seek to help the people and restore order.
- Pray that God will bring a mighty revival that will sweep through all of East Africa!
We have now completed our goal to channel immediate aid to Eldoret, Kenya, to help in emergency relief work through churches there. You may give emergency relief through agencies suggested below, specifying the particular region to which you want to direct your giving:
Probably the best approach is to designate funds through your own church denomination's international aid organization. These organizations go by different names, but channel monies directly through mission agencies very efficiently at very low overhead.
