  1. 1. a. The kingship of Jesus is a threat to our self-determination because, as Dr. Wilson states, there is in us, an independent streak. We want to be in charge. We don't want someone telling us what to do. b. The choices in light of his Kingdom is to spend time with Him, hearing His voice and be in submission to Him, be willing to let Him have His way. Not be stubborn or hard hearted. Knowing that we need Him every day, moment by moment.
  2. 1. a. We get too busy and too distracted, we don't want to look at our inward condition, we want to be entertained (easy, lazy), we waste time, we are just concerned with ourselves, we are not totally committed. Before the world devices and all its gadgets, I believe Christians spent more time in meditation and prayer. Its time to shut those things off, the news, entertainment, face book, etc. Spending time with the Lord always brings good results, benefits and we can't out-give God. I don't know why we don't do it more often. He is a 24 hr. God and He loves us. The devil hates us and always tries to distract us with things and taking our mind off the Lord and how great He is. b. I think the Lord values the time in the morning when you are refreshed. The enemy puts wrong thoughts in your mind and you have to fight them with the Word and the Lord gives you the victory over them. You thank Him for another day and His mercy. At night, I wait too long and I am wasted. c. Because Anna listens to the Lord, she knows exactly what to do, where to be and what to say. Being in tune with the Lord, she knows what He is doing. Just as Jesus was in tune with the Lord, spending time in prayer and only did what the Father was doing and saying. We too, being totally committed and spending time with the Lord and hearing will know what to do and say.
  3. 1. a. Simeon had been waiting for the Messiah to come and it was revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's Christ. He was moved on by the Holy Spirit to go to the temple the day Jesus was circumcised and dedicated to the Lord. He was sent for the prophetic praise of Jesus coming, who He was and what He came to do. b. This incident was recorded in Luke's Gospel, because it is very important and it is a fulfillment of O.T. prophecy, as in Isaiah 49:6 and elsewhere. People would not believe Him, reject Him and finally crucify Him and He really came to free and deliver them. c. Simeon's prophecy was fulfilled because all the things he prophesied came true - He is a Light, not just for the Jews, but also for the Gentiles.
  4. 1. a. It is fearful because we had better be ready, that is, being born again and walking in His will. Not participating in sin or the things of the flesh, because He could come at any time. b. These verses were fulfilled in Jesus day, when John the Baptist came before Jesus, baptized the people with the baptism of repentance. c. Jesus comes proclaiming, "The time is come. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe the gospel. Jesus came the first time to give His life for all a ransom for those who would accept His dying for them, His resurrection and ascension. But in the second coming, He comes to judge all who didn't receive Him and are happy with their sinful lives.
  5. 1. a. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. His holiness and in His dying on the cross to bring us to God, giving us peace, shedding His blood and being obedient unto death. b. Jesus left heaven, humbled Himself and became a man that he could identify with us, making it possible to bring us to God. He came not to be served but to serve and to give His live as a ransom for many. c. The incarnation is a such a miracle because God planned it in the beginning (knowing that Adam and Eve would mess up), that man could be redeemed. The angel said to Mary, the Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. And the God/man was born: Jesus - The one and only payment for our sins.
  6. 1. a, The Angels response was to go see what the Angels had told them. They hurried, found the place, where Mary and Joseph was and the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in the manger. Then they told everyone what had happened to them and what the angel told them about the child. b. Mary kept all these things in her heart and pondered them. The shepherds went back to their flocks, worshiping and praising God for all the things they had seen and heard.
  7. 1. a. The shepherds were shocked because it took them by surprise, it was quiet and totally dark, they were taking care of the sheep and it was brighter than anything they had ever seen before. it was ablaze. b. It was not low key because it the greatest event that ever took place. The coming of the Messiah which the Jews had longed for, for centuries. c. Behold, I bring you tidings of great joy, which will be for all the people. Jesus the Christ, Savior, Lord, Anointed One, the Messiah, the God/man was born and came to save us and deliver us from sin and bring us to the Father by His precious blood. Not just for the Jews only but for all people. d. The good news was authenticated by what the Angel told them, and what to look for: A baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.
  8. 1. a. Because Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. For this registry Joseph and Mary had to travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem, the birthplace of David. Jesus is born in history, He is both historical and verifiable. b. They had to travel 4 days from Nazareth to Bethlehem and Mary was in her late pregnancy. There was no place for them to lodge, so they stayed in a stable where there were animals and Jesus was born and was laid in a manger. c. Jesus commission is to preach good news to the poor, so He is born the poorest of the poor. Jesus did not come to be served but to be a servant. He emptied Himself and was made in human likeness. They were certainly humbled in all they had to go through. d. He allows difficulties in our lives that we might learn to depend on Him.
  9. 1. a. God does everything perfect. He sent His Son at the proper time, something He had planned since the beginning of time. b. Being redeemed means He bought me from slavery to sin, to freedom and from darkness to light. c. He adopted me, made me His child, His daughter. I received the full rights of being His child. Loved me enough to send His Son to die for me. d. I am a co-heir with Christ. What Christ inherits, I inherit. Christ is my older brother. I am seated in heavenly places, in Christ.
  10. 1. a. Love is most at home when their is peace in the family and God is the center of the home. b. There is strife in the home when people are not in agreement but we need to give in at times in order to bring peace, praying about it, asking God to bring a solution. We don't have to win every argument, don't let it bring hatred. What does God want? He says, love one another as I have loved you. What do you have when you argue - unhappiness, stress, emptiness, high blood pressure and more. c. You can peace from Jesus to your world, but telling others how much Christ loves them and that He died to bring them freedom and eternal life. d. It will bless you for witnessing and those you tell with a new life in Christ.
  11. 1. a. God has a special place in his heart for the poor and disadvantaged because He hears their cry and sees their need, feels their pain and has compassion on them. b. The unloved are even people in your own family, who even carry the wounds of childhood. Let them know they are loved by you and how much God loves them. The overlooked may be parents in their old age or the elderly in a nursing home. I found out through my Mom who was the oldest in her family and the last to survive, felt alone because all her family was gone and people did not come to visit anymore. For some reason, people neglect the elderly. They really have so much to give, living all the years they did and the lessons learned. Visit one, they love the attention and the encouragement. The looked down upon, they all respond to love. It could be you. God made us all equal and He loves everyone. Show His love to all. Like God does, look on their heart and see their need, not their outward appearance. c. Show God's love, visit the elderly, treat everyone equally, give to the missions, give to loving more, different ministries our church supports.
  12. This lesson is reckoning time! I keep saying tomorrow I will spend more time with the Lord and tomorrow comes and its gone, another day of not spending time with the Lord, feeling bad, but not enough to change my ways. I have enough time, but I guess I choose other things and get busy with other things. When I first came to the Lord how exciting i was and how i wanted to tell everyone about the Lord. Over the years I have cooled off and let my heart get hardened. I welcomed Dr. Wilson's Bible study and another Bible study because it disciplines me, Bible memory has also helped because it puts the Word in my spirit. It also makes the Word come alive. Realizing how important God's Word is and the revelation it brings. I asked the Lord, why don't I hear your voice like some other Christians and I got the thought, like you spend time with your family and friends, you build a relationship and get to know them, by spending quiet time with Me, you build a relationship with Me and get to know Me. He is working on me. Its in the choosing. He did give us the gift of choice. Thank you Lord.
  13. 1. a. Jesus is sitting at the right hand of God. b. Make His enemies His footstool. c. Bring us to God, Mediator - For, There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. ( 1 Timothy 2:5) d. He gave Himself for us. He is God/man. He came as a man, holy, that he could pay for our sins, the only one who could. Because He was God without sin or blemish and represented us. When we accept Him, He takes away our Adam sinful DNA and gives us heavenly DNA (2 Cor. 5:17) Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
  14. 1. a. They don't really know who He is. The Son of God, equal with God, their Redeemer, the one who can set them free and deliver them. b. They resist authority because they want to rule themselves and do what they want to do. They are ruled by self-will, not God's will. c. When I detect resistance in my heart, I cry out to God and ask Him to change me that I would be more sensitive to His voice and submit to Him, nor my will, but thy will be done. d. Kiss the Son means to me, submit to Him and obey Him, only that brings blessings.
  15. 1. a. That he was a righteous man, obedient, God fearing, compassionate, considerate and willing to protect Mary. b. His faith was bold and resiliant. c. It effects his reputation to the townfolk, he seems to acknowledge his own sexual impropriety unworthy of an upright Jew.
  16. 1. a. Because great civilizations come and go, but Jesus' Kingdom will be just and righteous and will last forever. b. A just and righteous government is so rare because of sin and most people will not repent. They rule their people harshly, do not really care for the people but for themselves. c. Jesus will bring perfect peace and will right wrong things bringing justice and righteousness.
  17. Wonderful Counselor - You can come to Him and receive counsel, direction, advice, something you never thought of before but it is quickened to you by His Spirit. Mighty God - He us all powerful, almighty, strong, nothing is impossible with Him, All knowing, all understanding, etc. Everlasting Father - He was in the beginning and He will be forever. He is a Father, loving us, caring for us, providing for us, teaching us. Prince of Peace - He gives us His peace, not like the world. There is nothing like His peace - comfort and contentment. Now we have received not the spirit of this world, but the Spirit which is of God, that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. (1 Cor. 2:12) For all the things He is and all the things that He has done for us, provided for us, loves us, cares for us we should give Him first place in our lives. We don't need to look anywhere else. He provides and satisfies every need.
  18. 1. a. People chose to live in darkness when light is available because they don't know the real truth and they are content to live the way they want and feel they are doing just fine until they come to the end of theirselves. b. People seem to resist the Light of Jesus, because "The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers,so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God." (2 Corinthians 4:4) c. I sometimes hesitate to step into Jesus full light because I chose my own way at times. I need to make better choices. d. Jesus came into Galilee and did signs wonders and miracles and the people believed Him and were changed. He brought light into darkness. e. Light has transformed my reputation. I am now in Christ, a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Cor. 5:17
  19. Through Abraham all the nations of the earth will be blessed because of Abraham's obedience of giving his only son. As the Father did in giving His only begotten S on and by Jesus obedience we are free and blessed. Obedience brings blessing. Jesus the one and only Seed. Galatians 3:29 If you belong to Christ then are you Abraham's Seed and heirs according to the promise. I love Dr. Wilson's mentioning of the song: "Praise God from whom all blessings flow" It has more meaning now after this lesson.
  20. 1. a. It tells us that Judah's descendant will be strong, powerful, overcoming and triumphant. b. Jesus qualifies for the promise of the ruling scepter as he is the Son of God, Deliverer of Mankind, King of King and Lord of Lords. c. Obedience is so hard for us, as we have our human nature and we have the ability to chose and unless Jesus is totally Lord over our lives we can chose disobedience, it is a struggle. d. It is so important for us, because that is how we grow in God. Disobedience gets us no where.
  21. 1. a. They both had the Spirit of God in them and had a lot to share, both touched by God. Just as Christians have the same Spirit of God in common and are able to share the things of God together. b. When Elizabeth heard Mary's salutation, the Babe leaped in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost and prophesied words of encouragement to Mary, about the child that was to be born of her. c. Mary was an encouragement to Elizabeth, as she comforted her and probably helped with the birth of John. Especially knowing that both the children were ordained of God for this special purpose. d. God has sent me to give encouragement to my neighbor, who is older, has health problems and is faithful to visit her husband in a nursing home every day.
