Q2. The Power of the Holy Spirit

Recommended Posts

Q2. (1 Thessalonians 1:4-5) Why is the Holy Spirit's working so necessary to effective ministry? What happens when the main power behind our ministry is will-power? What is the role of miracles in Paul's evangelism? What would happen if we saw miracles in evangelism in our day? What is hindering this?

The Holy Spirit is necessary to effective ministry because we can do nothing on our own. The Holy Spirit teaches us, lead and guide us, help us in so many ways. He know exactly what to do to reach the unsaved, to build up the saints and to keep us strong and moving in the things of God.

When the main power behind our ministry is will-power than we are really relying on the wrong power. It is good to have will-power, but will-power without the Holy Spirit may lead to pride and unbelieving. We must rely on the power of the Holy Spirit so we can remain humble and be effective in the things of God.

No ministry should be operate on will-power along. We need will-power to accept what God has call us to do, We need the strength of the Holy Spirit if we are going to be effective. Even Jesus did not operate in His own strength He operate in the power of the Holy spirit.

Jesus tells the Pharisees, in verses 31 and 32 of Matthew 12, that they have committed the Unpardonable sin by blaspheming the Holy Spirit. Because they said that the spirit that is working through Him delivering people is not the Holy Spirit but a demonic Spirit Mark 3:30 gives up more specific information by saying, because they said that Jesus had an unclean spirit. They attributed His good works while He was personally there in the flesh to an unholy Spirit.

The role of miracles in Paul's evangelism is to let the people know he is operating under the power of the Holy Spirit, and so they may believe on Christ.

If we see miracles in our evangelism today, we will have a great revival, and many would believe on Christ. We are being hinder by lack of faith, and dependence on the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit working is required for genuine heart conviction and repentance.

When the main power behind our ministry is will power, the end result is emotional and intellectual converts.

Miracles played a major influence in Paul's evangelism just as they were in Jesus'ministry.

If our evangelism would be effective, then miracles need to be part of our ministry today.

What is hindering miracles in evangelism today is the belief that miracles are no longer feasible in our days. But this is not true because Jesus Christ said that those who believed in him would lay their hands on the sick and they would be healed. Mark 16:17-18

"And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover".

(Mark 16:17-18 KJV)

The holy spirit is vital because we are one with God, the holy spirit and Jesus, we can be assured that when we minister it isn't coming out of our own agenda. It's important it's God speaking through us and we are just the vessels being used for his good purpose.

Well willpower may be good for that initial "zeal" and "motivation", to go, but again it's not our will, but "his will" be done. Also, only God knows the intent of a mans heart and can speak to that like no human person alone can.

Miracles are things in which Jesus used in order to draw people and we can too. So they are drawing tools and also help deepen our faith to be reassured we do serve a God who does miracles.

For some, the believer, it reaffirms their faith and for the unbeliever, it gives them that eye opening experience. Some may mock and put them in the category of witchcraft or magic, but that's just unfortunate for them.

What hinders miracles from happening today is a consistent prayer life, disobedience and unbelief.

God, alone, is responsible to draw hearts to himself. We are only seed-planters. If they Holy Spirit isn't in it, there will be no true fruit.

If will-power is used it becomes "won't-power" for God. Like trying to drive a car with an empty tank.

Miracles spoke to the people seeing God's power was at work among them. It became a testimony.

There are miracles today--especially in lands that don't have many believers yet. If there were miracles here, I think, it wouldn't have the witness it would have in other countries. I don't know if more would come to Christ here in the states if there were miracles. They have Bibles, Christian literature and Christian tv and many, many churches, yet they don't come......

Q2A. (1 Thessalonians 1:4-5) Why is the Holy Spirit's working so necessary to effective ministry?

Because without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, who will lead, guide and direct the paths of His chosen men and women; how can one be certain that their calling be of God or of us? The Holy Spirit will confirm things to us and allow us to know when we are in the will of God, when we stay in contact with Him. God gives us the power to do His will when we know that within ourselves we are weak and powerless and can do nothing to affect change in anyone’s life.

2B. What happens when the main power behind our ministry is will-power?

If the main power behind our own ministry is will-power----------- IT WILL FAIL! But I do believe that ‘will-power’ that is loaded with the “main” power will succeed.

2C.What is the role of miracles in Paul's evangelism?

The role of miracles in Paul’s evangelism was to strengthen and encourage believers; and inspire non-believers into repentance and salvation. The miracles stood as a testimony of the power of God; that one day “The King” would return for His church. The miracles served to be a witness that God was a living God; and that living a Holy life brought great joy to the Father; and it brought them closer to being with Him when He returns.

2D. What would happen if we saw miracles in evangelism in our day?

I believe that some people would accept what they were seeing as God’s power and be saved. Some would laugh and call it heresy, or a fake, or a joke. Some would be as those were in Paul’s day and run us out of town on a rail.

2E.What is hindering this?

The willingness or boldness to step out, for fear of being made fun of or attacked is part of the hindrance, also we sometimes lose sight of God when we try to do things of our own accord, then when we try—we fail.

1.The Holy Spirit changes people when they believe We can do nothing on our own. When we tell others about Jesus Christ we have to let the Holy Sprit lead them and open their eyes that they need salvation.

2.God's power changes not our power without the Holy Spirit our words to others are meaningingless.Pray that the Holy Spirit is with you when telling others about Christ.

3.The people Paul was preaching to believe what He was saying to them and lived it.

4. My thoughts on this is we do see miracles when the Holy Spirit touches someone and they give their live to Christ. The Bible tells us all angels in heaven rejouices when just one soul is saved, to me that is a miracle.

5. Problem is not letting the Holy Spirit in our worship. If God is not in our worship service we feel nothing. People sit in church services and quinch the Holy Spirit. I have been in a church and never feel nothing simply because the spirit is not there.

Without the help of the Holy Spirit, everything is all man made. He is the One responsible for the miracles; Paul the Apostle being His yielded vessel. Will-power may work to motivate others but it wont last.We need Word-power to show the world that Jesus Christ is indeed The Miracle Worker of all times.Miracles were significant in Paul's ministry because they attested to the healing power of the One, True, Living God that Paul preached about and drew people to Christ. If we saw more miracles, some would believe and come to Christ, and others would no doubt reject the Gospel even when there's evidence to support the miracles.I do believe a lot of people are hindered by religious spirits and their own man- made traditions.

The Holy Spirit is necessary because: Without the Holy Spirit It would be impossible to have an effective ministry.

If our ministry is just will-power and not the power through the Holy Spirit, our ministry would be fruitless.

The role of miracles in Paul's evangelism were to demonstrate the Holy Spirit, to convince and bring them to Christ.

If we saw miracles in evangelism today, I believe more people would come to Christ, however, some will not believe.

What is hindering this is...unbelief.

The Holy Spirit allows us to worship God in spirit and truth we are not spiritual without the Holy Spirit residing with in us.

The presence of our will in the ministry will not allow us to minister correctly our self will step forward in stead of the Lord.

The role of miracles in Paul's ministry was to show the people that God was present and working.

The reason people do not see miracles is they do not believe, however, if a miracle happens to a person it will cause them to believe. I know this from personal experience

No ministry will be effective without the power of the Holy Spirit. In order for the body of Christ to fully operate, the Holy Spirit must guide it. It leads us into all truth and convicts us when we are operating within our selves. We cannot lead, people to the truth as Paul, Silas, and Timothy, did if we are not functioning under the unction of the Holy Spirit.

When the main power behind the ministry is will-power it fails because only what we do for God last. Will-power bring chaos and personal opinions and God is not the author of confusion.

Miracles empower the ministry and allow others to see the goodness and power of the Almighty. When we see the miracles of God in evangelism many accepts salvation. But when we hinder the power of God in our ministry then we block or quench the work of the Holy Spirit.

Q2. (1 Thessalonians 1:4-5)

Why is the Holy Spirit's working so necessary to effective ministry?

The Holy Spirit's working is so necessary to effective ministry because it strengthens the conviction of believers.

What is the role of miracles in Paul's evangelism?

In Paul's evangelism, the miracles had great effect to those who were hearing the evangelism and made them to be convinced of the teaching.

What would happen if we saw miracles in evangelism in our day?

If we saw miracles in evangelism in our day, this will confirm the gospel that, miracles can be performed even today; they are not for the time of Paul only.

What is hindering this?

I think this is being hindered by our little faith.

The Holy Spirit is given to us as our Teacher and Counsellor who leads us into all truth. Without the Holy Ghost there is no power to bear witness to and preach the Gospel. It is the Spirit which dwells in us which gives us grace and strength to do what God wants us to do.

If we rely on our will power we are going to fail. Without Him we can do nothing. In our own strength we cannot go on. We need the power of the Holy spirit always.

Miracles when Paul evangelised showed the truth of God and what he was talking about the Lord.

We need to see miracles today which gives glory to God the Father. Miracles are the manifestation of Gods glory and power in our lives. When we have unbelief we cannot see miracles. If we only believe ... we will see the glory of God.

Q2. (1 Thessalonians 1:4-5) Why is the Holy Spirit’s working so necessary to effective ministry?

God has chosen to work through people to achieve the growth of HIs Kingdom on Earth. The Holy Spirit fills and empowers people to perform the work of ministry. Without Him nothing worthwhile will happen.

What happens when the main power behind our ministry is will-power?

We fail, simple as that. If our monistry is not God-fueled it has nothing going for it.

What is the role of miracles in Paul’s evangelism?

Paul's miracles were the proof that God was with him and empowering him. When people saw him perform miracles it enabled them to more easily believe his message that they too needed Jesus Christ in their lives.

What would happen if we saw miracles in evangelism in our day?

Well, for one thing, our churches would have a lot more people in them.

What is hindering this?

A widespread belief that miracles were for the Biblical times only and that the Spirit of God has somehow withdrawn from the world in terms of gifting people to perform miracles. Many people believe that of all the Spirit's gifts, the only faith hope and love remain in force today. Anyone who performs miracles is seen as Satanic. Plenty of churches believe that. I think today that lots of Christians give Satan too much credit and God not enough

We sometimes hesitate to share about God, because we are not sure what to say. We need to depend on the Holy Spirit to speak through us too and then believe that He will. This will result in a effective ministry.

God recognizes and chooses - the Gospel came to us not simply with words but also with power and in the Holy Spirit. Without rival, so many of the conversions we see are intellectual and emotional of nature. There will be times when the message seems to fall on deaf ears and have little effect.

God empowers us to do the things God calls us to do. Paul new that God was doing something special. God chose Paul to bring God's message to the Thessalonians, as God's message, which they heard and accepted. It was not a man's message. We must learn to pray constantly and trust God.

The Holy Spirit gives us spiritual gifts to use eg.faith, healing etc. There are different gifts and not everybody has the same, you can also have more than one gift. The truth is every gift is necessary for the Body of Christ to function as God intends it to. We need to seek out gifted people and nurture them.

We can do nothing without the working of the Holy Spirit. We can say words however we need the Holy Spirit to illuminate them in the heart.

Our will power is great if we have enough sleep, things go well, we get the proper encouragement, etc. It is based on the human strength and we need the strength of the Holy Spirit to work.

Miracles were essential (in my opinion) to convince some people that this wasn't just another weirdo. They made hearts receptive to listening and not shutting out the message.

We are very cynical today and full of our education and self knowledge. We have seen many false prophets and frankly think Jesus our Lord and Savior is irrelevant. We don't believe. How sad, how tragic.

God Bless!

1. Without the Holy Spirit in our lives, worship and prayers all our words are meaningless. When we tell others about Jesus Christ the Spirit has to be there to direct what we say and to convict others to lead them to salvation.

2.Our will power is not enough it takes God power which is the Holy Spirit. when we pray the Holy Spirit takes our prayer and makes it understandable and takes it straight to God.

Q2. (1 Thessalonians 1:4-5) Why is the Holy Spirit's working so necessary to effective ministry?

The Holy Spirit’s working is necessary for effective ministry, because it is His power that brings about conversions, miracles, revivals, and so forth that magnifies God’s Hand in the lives of others.

What happens when the main power behind our ministry is will-power?

Determination and will-power is good, but when it is the main power behind the ministry and not Holy Spirit’s power the ministry will fail. It is not about what we can do, it is all about God. We can do nothing without Him.

Great evangelism must be undergirded by prayer, listening for God’s voice, and following in obedience to His voice and His Word. It takes faith and trust to follow God’s guidance and the leading of the Holy Spirit.

What is the role of miracles in Paul's evangelism?

The role of miracles in Paul’s evangelism is confirmation that he has been sent by God. As we read in I Corinthians 2:2-5, Paul’s trusted in the wisdom of God, the Bible, and the leading of the Holy Spirit to direct him. This was confirmed by the miracles Paul witnessed while ministering to the Thessalonians.

I Corinthians 2:2-5 – “For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.”

What would happen if we saw miracles in evangelism in our day?

If we saw miracles in evangelism today it should motivate us to be more dependent on the wisdom and power of God than the wisdom of man.

What is hindering this?

What is hindering us from seeing miracles in evangelism today is faith and obedience to God and His Word. We are still trying to please man and only say and do what man or the world wants to hear.

It is the power of the Holy Spirit that moves and convicts a person. A power that opens ears and minds to the gospel and God's will. Will power is a human thing and is not the will of God. scripture teaches us to submit our will to the will of the Father.

Miracles provide relief to the suffering and testify to the power of Glory of God. They understore the Gospel message.

Miracles happen throughout the world today and move people closer to Jesus and into the Christian faith. Lack of belief and faith hinder miracles.

If Jesus isn't a part of the Holy Spirit's working there is no ministry. The ministry can't be run on will power for willpower is no match for Christ's power. The miracles in Paul's evangelism is the pivotal events in the ministry-no miracles no ministry. Today there are many miracles happening, but they are discounted as human experiences. Non-believers.

Romans 8:14 tells us that those who are led by the Spirit of God are called sons of God. Holy Spirit is our guide and counsellor who leads us and guides us. our ministry can be effective only when we completely yeild and submit ourselves to the voice to the mighty Holy Spirit. we can do nothing without the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the ministry that we do the for the love of God can bear fruit when we are led by hios Holy Spirit.

if we work based on will power-- or based on human knowledge or human wisdom it cannot bear fruit which God has willed and they become dead works.

when the Gospel is preached accompanied with signs and wonders it makes a person believe in the Word of God and commit thier lives to Jesus Christ.

when a person has no love for God and not developed a strong relationship with Christ and no love for the word of God - they will not believe in the miracles too.

The Holy Spirit's working is necessary to effective ministry because it is the Spirit that convicts a person of sin and draws them to Christ.

What happens when the main power behind our ministry is will-power is, it becomes a work of the flesh.

The role of miracles in Paul's evangelism was, it resulted in deep conviction followed by repentance and faith in Christ.
