Old Jerry
The thing that happens to people who seek revenge on those who hurt them is that they end up being hurt even more. They carry that burden with them at all times and the person that offended them doesn’t even know or maybe don’t care. So when we forgive those who have wronged us we are relieving ourselves from that burden of always carrying a grudge. An unloving and superior attitude towards outsiders will make it that the church will not grow. I don’t know of anybody that wants is be in such a cold congregation. If they drop their superior and unloving attitude when visitors come to the church they will be more willing to join that congregation. van
People who has to seek vengeance on those who hurt them is not of Christ, but, of the world. Congregations that has unhealthy attitudes toward outsiders can't expect the church to grow. As a matter of fact, eventually the church will have very low members. In order to get healthy again, they need to ask forgiveness from God and those they have hurt and move on with a more positive outlook. That's with love, patience, understanding and kindness. Commissioned
Q2. (1 Thessalonians 5:15) What happens to people who seek revenge on those who hurt them? What happens when they neglect to forgive those who have wronged them? What happens in a congregation that has an unloving, superior attitude towards outsiders? How do these attitudes reflect on Christ? How can people or congregations get healthy after have been vengeful, proud, or unforgiving? People who seek revenge on those who hurt them are in a state of unforgiveness and when they neglect to forgive those who have wronged them they forfeit forgiveness from God for their wrong doings. In a congregation that has an unloving, superior attitude towards others, they will have few new-converts. People and congregationa can get healthy after been vengeful, proud, or unforgiving by adopting a loving nature as Christ asks us to have. When there is love there will be opportunities for reconciliation.

People who always seek to repay hurt or wrongdoing are not healthy christians themselves. We must remember who forgave all sins and died for all of our sins and walk in love toward one another in every instance. When a church has a judgemental attitude toward outsiders it creates a division in fellowship and does not reflect the love and acceptance of Jesus Christ. Churches will run stangnant and not grow if they continue with this attitude. The fulness and beautiful love of Christ is never experienced when a church is reflecting their own self righteous attitude. The way for a church to get healthy after being this way is to turn back to our first love, repent and let His forgiveness and love shine out through us to others. These christains are like babies who feel that it is them that has to make all wrongs to right instead of God. As far as congregations being unloving or superior, these christains is what drives people out of their churches as well as any church because they feel that this is what christains do to those who are grea sinners. The only way I see churches get back to an healthy state is for christains to be convicted enough to ask for forgiveness of their attitudes toward God and those they have against. I have witnessed this and it is a beautiful experience to see.
sunshine1962
When people are revenge seekers, God temporarily takes His hands off them (I believe) until they come back to their senses. If they don't forgive others, God will not forgive them. If a congregation is unloving to outsiders, that congregation will not grow and God will not bless them. An unloving attitude does not reflect Christ in any kind of way. If the congregation begins to change into the type of congration it should be, Christ steps back into the picture and they begin to receive their blessings again. WinstonY
Holding onto a 'hurt' is harmful. And probably it does not really hurt the one who hurt you. Think of the non-forgiving of the McCoy and Hatfield feud. The hate hurt both families and the sin of it all finally wiped both clans out. Revenge only helps Satan, he and his devilish glee are the only winners. People who hold grudges are harmful to themselves and to society. As the notes say " People who must pay back every hurt are miserable, selfish, vengeful wrecks" . Healthy Christians take their cues from Christ himself and forgive. The act of forgiveness makes us whole and we are enabled to live in Christ by God's grace. A congregation that has an unloving, superior attitude towards outsiders and to a degree to many in their congregation itself is really just the same as an individual that does not forgive! They are are miserable, selfish, vengeful wrecks and soon become dysfunctional. If outsiders see and experience these attitudes from an individual or a congregation they immediately ask " Are these Christians?" These people then begin to think of the body of Christ as being miserable, vengeful and proud. People or congregations get healthy by means of prayer and the grace of God. These must become open to God and respond to the admonishments of the Bible, of Christ and by listening conscientiously to the Holy Spirit. JoanG
People, who constantly seek revenge, are those that are angry. They have no self-respect. They lower their standards to those or below those that had hurt them. They hurt their own hearts and souls with this sense of revenge. They might even become paranoid waiting for the next person to hurt them. When they do not forgive, they cause pain onto themselves. They cause their hearts to turn cold. When there is an unloving, superior attitude in a congregation, many will leave the church and go to another church or they will turn from God believing that all Christians are like these few. People will think that this is how all Christians are and start to blame it on a hateful God that brought these people together. I feel that there will need to be a shake up within the congregation. People of strong moral and Christian beliefs will have to take over. There will need to be much praying. There will need to be much teaching and preaching. People will need to confess their sins. lighthouse2014
People who are revengeful to those that hurt them are themselves miserable, selfish wrecks. They are not happy unless they pay back all evil for evil. They usually have no friends and are rude in public. When they do not forgive those who hurt them they are usually very unhappy, selfish people. A leader who is unloving and feels superior to outsiders, these are very unhappy and selfish people. With attitudes as mentioned above their personalities do not display a Christian way of life. Contrary to Christ teaching of love, patience and forgiving reflects a bad example of Christ and usually drives people away from him. It would most likely be very hard for a congregation that has had a bad reputation in the community to bring people to believe they have changed. With outward displays of love, no longer being revengeful a congregation can rebuild it's reputation as being followers of Christ.
Damary Alembi
Q2. (1 Thessalonians 5:15) What happens to people who seek revenge on those who hurt them? People who must pay back every hurt are miserable, selfish, vengeful wrecks. There is a kind of spiritual pride in their own righteousness. What happens in a congregation that has an unloving, superior attitude towards outsiders? A congregation that has an unloving, superior attitude towards outsiders is judgmental and vengeful. There is no peace with each other. There is no spiritual enthusiasm. They have a condescending attitude towards those who are not as spiritual, or even outright secular. Reuben
People who seek revenge darken their hearts, and although we instinctively want to get even, we are not living in love and expressing that Christ like attitude when we are all about taking revenge. By seeking revenge we are sinning as it is a commandment in the Bible that we should not act this way. If you cannot forgive those who have wronged you , you are giving in to the devil poisoning your mind and letting you walk a life away from the peace that Jesus wants you to have. More important Jesus himself has said, how can we ask and expect forgiveness from God if we can not forgive one another. He has also said it is a sin to go to bed angry with someone at the end of the day, and you should make your peace before you go to sleep. I have never experienced an unloving congregation, but I would only assume that it will be a congregation, set in their ways, not growing since outsiders will not feel loved or welcome. Superior attitude I have experienced in some churches, where the leaders only mingle with the influential members, and that does not lead to an inclusive , loving feeling in the congregation. Jesus is all about love, inclusion, and humbleness, and most importantly forgiveness. All of these things will create a congregation that is Christ like , and can only grow and get stronger. Congregations that do not have these attributes need to reflect deeply on the spiritual health of their church, and they need to repent from these bad attitudes, and ask God for forgiveness, and ask for spiritual revival and healing in the church. Nothing angers Jesus more than church leaders, and members that act like they are superior to others, but are nothing more than hypocrites. Jonathan Edwards
They loose their joy in the Lord, prayerfull watchfulness goes out the window. Bitterness, resentments and other negative things deter these believers from focusing totally on the Lord Jesus Christ. The fruits of the Holy Spirit ! The Christain cannot afford to let hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife and seditions to take root in his or her heart. St Paul knew how terrible the works of the flesh were; he knew that the local church would be negatively affected. Not a good witness for the Lord when a church goes on a constant condemning people constantly. We are to be patient to ALL MEN. How we conduct ourselves is very important to those outside the church. Very important to witness for our faith just by how we live each day. Acting kindly and appropriately testifies to the wonderful work of grace in our lives. Krissi
It is extraordinarily difficult to forgive people who have grossly and permanently wronged us, but it must be done. Jesus' words are clear. We're to not harbor anger and the desire for revenge, but trust Him to avenge. The good news is He promises to repay! So we will get justice. Somehow. In His time. In His way. Forgiving has to be internal first. In the heart. It's most difficult to forgive ongoing wrongs, that is, wrongs that have not stopped but continue to inflict pain and suffering. Yet, even those who continue to wrong us must be forgiven. Only with His grace are we able to do this.
