Recommended Posts

  • 5 months later...

It is symbolic to The Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is flowing through every believer and is flowing everywhere here on earth. He is always present whether someone gets a physical feeling of something or not. He is unseen but present.

The Lord creates the spiritual thirst within people.

The promises have been fulfilled with the outpouring of The Holy Spirit on the day of pentecost. The Holy Spirit is constantly manifesting himself through us to be a blessing to others.

Q24. (John 4:13-14; 7:37-39) If water is symbolic of life, what is flowing or living water symbolic of in these passages? Who creates this spiritual thirst in a person? How are these promises fulfilled in believers?

The power of the abundant life giving Holy Spirit, living and active in the heart of a believer.

Jesus creates this spiritual thirst in a person. Psalm 34:8 says, O taste and see that the Lord is good: How blessed is the man who take refuge in Him!” When we experience an encounter with the living God, we are forever changed and want to that experience to never end.

The Holy Spirit in the life of a willing believer flows through him/her into the lives of those God has placed before them. Through acts of evangelism, personal witness, acts of kindness, service and sacrifice. 1 John 5:11, “And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.”

Q24. (John 4:13-14; 7:37-39)

If water is symbolic of life, what is flowing or living water symbolic of in these passages?

Eternal Life given to us through the Holy Spirit

Who creates this spiritual thirst in a person?

The only way we can be drawn to Jesus is by His Father through the Holy Spirit (John 6:44). Just as seeing a tall glass of water is able to increase our physical thirst... experiencing the Holy Spirit is able to increase our Spiritual thirst.

How are these promises fulfilled in believers?

We have been given the incredible gift of God's Holy Spirit which flows through us continuously supplying us with the water from the River of Life which flows from the throne of God.  This source of Life supplies our every Spiritual need continuously filling us and flowing through us to those around us.

Q24. (John 4:13-14; 7:37-39)

If water is symbolic of life, what is flowing or living water symbolic of in these passages? Who creates this spiritual thirst in a person? How are these promises fulfilled in believers?

Flowing living water is both symbolic of eternal life, when we will never thirst again (John 6:35), and the Holy Spirit who just as water satisfies our thirst enabling us to bear fruit. We hear the Word of God, the Holy Spirit regenerates us, and we become aware of our sinfulness and our need of a Saviour. Our Lord Jesus invites the thirsting soul to come to Him, “let him come to Me and drink” (7:37). No one else will do – only Jesus Christ. To “drink” here means to appropriate Jesus for ourself. It means to trust Him as Lord and Savior. It means to take Him into our lives as we would take a glass of water into our bodies. As believers we will have our needs fulfilled, and will receive rivers of spiritual blessing that will flow out from us to others. That is, we will be channels of blessing to others. We have the promise of eternal life with our Saviour and the promise of being indwelt by the Holy Spirit.

Flowing water suggests a continuous flow. So "living water" is a symbol not just of life, but continuous, eternal, everlasting life.

Jesus creates the thirst in us.  He invites anyone even in our day who thirsts for healing, for reality, for truth, for love.

Jesus promises that the Holy Spirit will flow from within like an artesian well, never stopping.

Flowing or living water is symbolic to an eternal, everlasting and continuous life because ordinary water is just symbolic to life.

Jesus Christ creates the thirst in us as He is the Fountain, the Spring where we get the everlasting life and will never thirst again.

When we have receives Christ as our Lord and Savior, we will not need anymore water because the Holy Spirit will be at work in our lives as we continue to read the Word of God and spend time in prayer. All we need to do is to ensure that we have a permanent, intimate relationship with God so that we never thirst again.

Q24. (John 4:13-14; 7:37-39) If water is symbolic of life, what is flowing or living water symbolic of in these passages? Who creates this spiritual thirst in a person? How are these promises fulfilled in believers?

1. Flowing or living water is symbol not just of life, but continuous, eternal, and everlasting life. It is eternal life we are give through the holy spirit.

2. Jesus said, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come tome and drink.  He also said, "whoever believes in me, as the scripture has said, "streams of living water will flow from within him. Jesus was saying the spirit, whom those believed in him, they would later receive it.

3. We are to repent, believe on Jesus' invitation and promise that thirsty people seeking for his living water will be filled. Believe that the invitation is universal not just for the Jews, but thirsty people seeking him everywhere. Believe that the holy spirit will flow from within like a river of water on the day of Pentecost.

Flowing or living water has to be opposed to tepid, stagnant water. One is life-giving, the other is life-threatening. Flowing water is always changing and moving. It's pure. Clean. Lovely. Living water symbolizes the continual work of the Spirit within us sanctifying us.

The Spirit creates a thirst for Himself within us. We are called to Him and are not "naturally" inclined toward Him. He makes us "thirsty."

Jesus promises to give us the SPirit, which is the flowing water within us. He promises that the flow will not stop -- unless we want it to. I think this is the same as growing closer to him daily, incrementally and without notice, as the flow ... flows.

Q24. Living Water (John 4:13-14; 7:37-39)

If water is symbolic of life, what is flowing or living water symbolic of in these passages?

ANSWER: In the Old Testament, flowing or “living” water stands for God’s faithful and lasting provision for his people.  Living water is a symbol for salvation and a true knowledge of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. It is also a symbol of cleansing. The living water that Jesus gives us as believers is spiritual blessing and life-giving power. “Living water”, God’s Holy Spirit, is not Jesus Himself, although spiritual faith in Him (Jesus) is needed to truly receive this life-giving blessing. Unlike ordinary water which only quenches our physical needs, God’s living water inside us satisfies our far greater spiritual thirst for Him.

Who creates this spiritual thirst in a person?

ANSWER: Spiritual thirst is a way of describing a person’s own search for God. Spiritual thirst is a God-created hunger that begins when He calls us into His family. He creates this hunger and thirst in us, by causing us to acknowledge that thirst, and to relieve it by drawing from the well of prayer. In summation, there are three things we need to do if we’re going to quench our thirst in Jesus.

1) admit you’re dehydrated;

2) stop drinking the things that make you thirsty; and

3) quench your thirst with Jesus.

How are these promises fulfilled in believers?

ANSWER: Jesus promises that the Holy Spirit will flow from within like an artesian well, never stopping. the continued presence of the Holy Spirit in each believer. The blessings of living water is living water heals. It nourishes and sustains. It brings peace and joy. As believers, we have the ability to refresh and witness to others. Not only do we receive blessings, we also become a source of blessing to others as well.

A24.

Living water represents the Holy Spirit of God poured on all believers in Jesus Christ through His saving work accomplished on the cross.

It is thus needful for an individual to hear the Word of God, believe that Jesus died to redeem us from sin and death that leads to life in hell after death, accept Jesus Christ as Saviour, and is filled with the Holy Spirit.

Q24. Flowing or living water means not just life but continuous, everlasting and eternal life given to us by the Holy Spirit.

When we begin to feel the need for God in our lives and we start searching for Him, The Holy Spirit has given us these feelings and desires and we must keep seeking and searching until we find the “ Living Water”.
When we are walking with the Lord we are privileged to have the Holy Spirit in dwelling us. He is our counsellor, guide , teacher, and our conscience. As a result of this we should be becoming more and more like Jesus every day, as long as we keep drinking from the Living  Water.

Flowing water or Living waters r are where the Jews would go for ritual cleansing .

Today the Holy Spirit in us bubbles up daily as a stream of Living water constantly cleansing us and leading us from within until we lay hold of Eternal Life .

He creates the thirst

He fulfils it

He gives us seeing eyes , hearing ears and a heart of flesh that understands the things of God .

That we may ask Jesus to be our Lord and Savior in thought, word and deed.

The Spirit goes to work as He indwells the believer transforming us from the inside out .

Q24. (John 4:13-14; 7:37-39)

If water is symbolic of life, what is flowing or living water symbolic of in these passages?

Who creates this spiritual thirst in a person?

How are these promises fulfilled in believers?

To live, we need food, water, and air to be able to breathe.

A well needs replenishing. It contains water that is all gathered in one place.  A spring has running water, that bubbles out of the ground.  One can almost see it leaping out of the earth, as it were, with a never ending joy.  In John 7 "Rivers of Living Water" are spoken about.  It furnishes a picture of bountifulness, never ending, a continuity.

If we take the picture of the woman at the well, we find her spiritual thirst brought about by degradation in life, disillusionment in people and life itself, and total dissatisfaction about what her life had become.   In general thirst is beneficial to a person, because one senses a need to be fulfilled, to be quenched.  With no desire or thirst to change, that soul becomes dehydrated and dies.

Rivers are suggestive of life in quenching of thirst, also in providing means by which fruit or a harvest can be brought forth.

When Jesus said the words, "If any man thirst, let him come unto Me and drink," when STANDING, He was proclaiming them, like a herald.  When we believe we begin thirsting, and come to Him to quench our thirst.  Then the Holy Spirit fills us with the Living Water, that flows like a river from within us, bubbling up, beautifying satisfying, building us up, refreshing our souls, bringing forth fruit.

Q.24 (John 4:13-14; 7:37-39)

Water as a symbol of life is vital in human life. It is necessary to help us stay dehydrated and used for our daily basic needs.

Living water is a symbol not just of life, but continuous, everlasting life. Living water is the Holy Spirit that dwells all believers.

The Holy Spirit is the only one that can really quench the thirst of a thirsty person.

The promises of God do not return back void. God keeps His promises in Jesus Christ. And God fulfills His promises through His timing. Jesus promise that the Holy Spirit will flow from within like an artesian well, never stopping.

Flowing or living water is symbolic of not just of life, but continuous, eternal, everlasting life.

Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, Streams of living water will flow from within him, By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive.

The promise was in going to the Father He would send the Holy Spirit to those who believe.  John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
