The Messiah is called the Lion of the tribe of Judah because Jacob prophesied that the Messiah would one day come from the tribe of Judah. Isaiah speaks of the Messiah coming forth as "a rod out of the stem of Jesse", Isaiah 53 speaks of Him as "a root out of a dry ground." Jesus is the fulfillment of these prophesies.

The Lamb is called the Lion of the tribe of Judah because it was prophesied that the Messiah would one day come from the tribe of Judah. The Lamb is also called the "root of Jesse", because He was a descendent from the line of David, son of Jesse. Jesus is the fulfillment of these prophesies.

THERE ARE SO MANY FACETS TO GOD THAT IT WOULD PROBABLY TAKE ALL OF ETERNITY TO COME TO A FULL UNDERSTANDING OR REVELATION OF JUST WHO HE IS AND HOW POWERFUL HE IS. ASIDE FROM BEING OUR SAVIOUR, HEALER, DELIVERER JOHN IN REVELATION IS REVEALING TO US ANOTHER FACET OF OUR LORD; THE LAMB WHO IS SEEN AS A LION FROM THE TRIBE OF JUDAH, JUST AS JACOB HAD PROPHESIED. ISAIAH PROPHESIED OF HIM AS BEING THE ROOT OF DAVID. THUS HE FULFILLED THE PROPHESIES ABOUT HIM; THAT HE WOULD COME FROM THE TRIBE OF JUDAH AND A DESCENDANT OF DAVID. BOTH THESE TITLES SIGNIFY HIS AUTHORITY AND POWER OVER EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE..THAT IS HE IS OMNIPOTENT AND WORTHY OF ALL PRAISE FOR THERE IS NO ONE MORE POWERFUL THAN HIM THAT WAS EVER BORN OR CREATED.....GOD BLESS.

Q1. Why is the Lamb called "the Lion of the tribe of Judah" and "the Root of David"? What do these titles signify about him?

God had chosen Judah to be the ancestor of Israel's line of kings. Judah's line would produce the promised Messiah, Jesus. THe Messiah is the fulfillment of God's promise that a descendant of David would rule forever.

Jesus Christ is pictured as both a Lion , symbolizing His Authority and Power, and a Lamb Symbolizing His Submission to God's will .

Root of David , refers to Jesus being from david's Family line , thus fulfilling the promise of the Messiah in the Old Testament.

Q1. (Revelation 5:5) Why is the Lamb called "the Lion of the tribe of Judah" and "the Root of David"? What do these titles signify about him?

"The Lion of the tribe of Judah" refers to Jacob's ancient prophecy over his son Judah (Genesis 49:8-12), picturing Judah as "a lion's cub" and a "crouching lion," from whose tribe, the Jews believed, would come the Messiah:

"The scepter will not depart from Judah,

nor the ruler's staff from between his feet,

until he comes to whom it belongs

and the obedience of the nations is his." (Genesis 49:10)

"The Root of David" is a reference to Isaiah's prophecy:

"A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;

from his roots a Branch will bear fruit....

In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his place of rest will be glorious." (Isaiah 11:1, 10)

Jesse is the father of King David, from whose descendents the Messiah would come.

Q1. (Revelation 5:5) Why is the Lamb called "the Lion of the tribe of Judah" and "the Root of David"?

It was prophesied, the Messiah would come from the house of Judah, He will sit on the throne of David, in Zion.

What do these titles signify about him?

It signifies that Jesus is the king of the Jews, and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever; and His kingdom there will be no end.

It signifies that Jesus is the promise to Israel, the Messiah, the Son of God and the hope for the Gentiles. The Lamb that was slain is now the Lion, the King of Kings.

Q1. (Revelation 5:5) Why is the Lamb called "the Lion of the tribe of Judah" and "the Root of David"? What do these titles signify about him?

This is good for me, I was not aware of the prophecy of Jacob in Genesis, which is much earlier in the bible that that of Isaiah 11:1, 10. It again shows that the truth of the old Testament was, is and always shall be about Jesus. Praise God for such magnificent stories that link together a comment theme: Jesus is our only hope, our only salvation. As Lion and sacrificial Lamb, he is our ALL IN ALL.

Q1. (Revelation 5:5) Why is the Lamb called "the Lion of the tribe of Judah" and "the Root of David"? What do these titles signify about him?

Ancient prophecy about the Messiah was given to teach the people where He would come from. That is, in Genesis, it was promised to Adam and Eve that One would come "born of woman" who would save the world and crush the serpent's head. Later in Genesis, God promised one man that his descendants would outnumber the stars, thus choosing a people from which Messiah would come. Now people knew that the Promised Savior would come from a woman, who was part of Abraham's descendants. Then Jacob, one of Abraham's children, prophesied through a blessing, that his son Judah would father a great Leader, who would have ultimate authority over all the world. And, within the tribe of Judah, God found a man who had a heart of deep love for Him: David. He promised David that the Messiah would be one of his descendants.

So, in the Revelation passage, we are reminded that the Lord Messiah was to be a King of Judah, and that the kingly line would be from David's family. It is establishing the right of the Lamb to open the book: because He is of David's line, and within the tribe of Judah, of the people of Abraham, and born of a woman, but no man's seed.

These names come from the prophecies about Jesus from the Old Testament. The scriptures from Genesis tells us about Jacob. From his son Judah would come the Messiah. Judah was pictured as a lion's cub or crouching lion. Isaiah tells us the Messiah would come from the Root of Jessie, Davids father. Jesus would be called "the Lion of the tribe of Judah" and "the Root of David".

"The Lion of the tribe of Judah" refers to Jacob's ancient prophecy over his son Judah (Genesis 49:8-12), picturing Judah as "a lion's cub" and a "crouching lion," from whose tribe, the Jews believed, would come the Messiah: I believe that this is the reason that Christ is call the Lion of Judah. He will like the lion be King over all not just a few. The Root of David is the sign that Jesus is of the family of David the son of Jesse. It shows that again like David was King Jesus will be King and rule over all things.

Q1 Jacob's ancient prophecy over his son, Judah as 'a lion's cub' and 'a crouching lion.'

Jesse, the father of King David came from the tribe of Judah and Isaiah's prophecy

indicates that a descendant (shoot) will come from this tribe who will be the

Messiah for the Jewish people.

"Lion" being the king of the animals will triumph over all odds. The lion is

powerful and fear no one. Jesus, being the Lamb and with these titles meant that He

is victorious and glorious over His enemies. Following in his forefathers, He is

the King of kings and Lord of lords. He is great in every way. He has triumphed

over sin and death and all authority has been given to Him in heaven and on earth.

The lion is a symbol for royalty, the king of the land. the phrase "the Lion of the tribe of Judah" is referring to Jesus' as king and connecting him to a long line of people who are royalty. The phrase "the Root of David" is affirming his place in the line of David. He shares ties to King David, who God called a man after his own heart.

Q1. (Revelation 5:5) Why is the Lamb called "the Lion of the tribe of Judah" and "the Root of David"? What do these titles signify about him?

The Messiah - Jesus Christ - would be of the house of David. He would sit upon the throne of David. There is plenty of scripture to support this. In the Davidic Covenant God told David that his ancestors would sit on his throne forever. Forever equals the Messiah Jesus Christ.

Q1. (Revelation 5:5) Why is the Lamb called "the Lion of the tribe of Judah" and "the Root of David"?

Jesus was fully man and fully God...as a perfect man He died as our sacrificial Lamb, having completed the mission for which He came to earth. Now victorious over sin, death and the grave, He rose triumphant, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, our God and King forever, once again robed in the royal robes of glory He put aside to come to save us....seated on the throne of David.

What do these titles signify about him?

That He is God, the promised Messiah, King, Creator, Savior. Every prophecy about Messiah was fulfilled in Him. He came to earth to die and to conquer death for those who will receive Him as Savior and Lord. He is our soon coming King, Who will one day crack the sky and call us to rise up to meet Him in the air to be with Him forever. So amazing to belong to Him, to be God's child, His bride, to know that one day soon we'll see His precious face radiant with glory!!!!
