Q2. (1 Thessalonians 4:3-4) What does it mean to be “sanctified”? In what sense are we “holy” now? In what sense are we in the process of becoming “holy”? What does holiness have to do with our sexuality?

To be “sanctified” means that one is dedicated to God. We are "holy" now in the sense that God who is "Holy" dwells in us and we are separated for His exclusive use. We are God's own people and possessions from the common and secular. We are in the process of becoming “holy”? in the sense that as we yield to the Holy Spirit we are being changed day-by-day into Christ's likeness as we focus on Him.

Living holy unto God requires that we avoid fornication and commit sexual acts within the bonds of marriage.

Q2. (1 Thessalonians 4:3-4) What does it mean to be “sanctified”? In what sense are we “holy” now? In what sense are we in the process of becoming “holy”? What does holiness have to do with our sexuality?

To sanctify means to set apart for divine use. In one sense, all believers have been set apart from the world to serve the Lord. After repentance and accepting Jesus Christ as the Messiah, the believer repurposes his/her life from self and the world to the Lord God Almighty.

Again, all believers are set apart from the world to the service of the Lord. This is known as postional sanctification and it is perfect and complete. However, in another sense, the believer should sanctify themselves, that is, separate themselves from all forms of sin. This is known as practical or progressive sanctification. This process will continue until the believer's death or the return of Jesus Christ. The sanctification process can only be accomplished through the power of the Holy spirit.

First and foremost, sexual immorality is a sin against the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6:19). It is a sin against one's own body (1 Cor 6:18). It is also a sin against other people. In the Torah, God said: "be Holy as I am Holy." I cannot implement this command into my life if I am practing sexual immorality. It is unholy.

What does it mean to be "sanctified"?

It means to be holy; set apart from the world for God and His purposes for you. A lifelong process, as we yield to the Holy Spirit and allow and desire that Christ be the Lord of our lives.

In what sense are we "holy" now?

We are positionally holy because we have been justified through Christ's work on the cross, and have accepted His free gift of salvation.

In what sense are we in the process of becoming "holy"?

In a sense that, as we yield to the Holy Spirit, He begins the refining process in us that conforms us to be like Christ. As the silversmith heats the silver into a molten liquid in order to purify it by removing all the dross; the Holy Spirit refines our character and leads us towards holiness. This process is not without pain or discomfort, but is essential to our growth and is always in our best interest; because God loves us.

What does holiness have to do with our sexuality?

God has given us marriage between one man and one woman, a mutually exclusive relationship, to enjoy and express the sexuality He has given us. Sex within the parameters of that relationship is holy.

Q2. (1 Thessalonians 4:3-4) What does it mean to be "sanctified"?

Sanctified means - to be "HOLY"- This is the bride that Christ is coming back for, His faithful, "SANCTIFIED" bride.

In what sense are we "holy" now?

When we become (betrothed) to the Messiah, it is in that sense that we are "HOLY".

The Hebrew word for betrothed is "kiddushim" which signifies "SANTIFICATION", separation, set apart for Him; and as we accept his proposal, our promise to Him is that we will be “FAITHFUL".

When we receive our engagement ring, the Holy Spirit, it signifies "HOLINESS", and as we walk in that holiness we reveal to others that we are preparing ourselves for the Wedding Feast, our day of great "CELEBRATION".

In what sense are we in the process of becoming "holy"?

Because we are devoted to Him, the process is a daily, moment by moment adventure, making ourselves ready for His return.

What does holiness have to do with our sexuality?

The Bridegroom has invited us into his family, a holy family, and because we are under the headship of the Bridegroom, and the Bridegroom is under the headship of his Father, the Father is head over all.

When we became engaged to the Son, we understood the requirements of the family is that of holiness, therefore the Father has established a set of codes for us to live by, showing us the path of holiness and joy.

Sexuality is one of the greatest, most enjoyable, sensational pleasures that we may enjoy, the Father even gives us a set of rules to help us avoid the pitfalls that sexuality good present to a person, destroying self worth and that of holiness.

What an awesome God we serve.

To be sanctified is to be made holy.

We're holy positionally--in Christ Jesus.

God is working in us by the Holy Spirit to make us holy day by day--more conformed to the image of Christ.

Holiness requires we put our sexual lives to the test--sex only in marriage with own spouse. All other sex is not holy--it is sin..

Q2. (1 Thessalonians 4:3-4) What does it mean to be “sanctified”? In what sense are we “holy” now? In what sense are we in the process of becoming “holy”? What does holiness have to do with our sexuality?

To be sanctified means we have a personal dedication to the interest of God and holiness. We are set apart. We WANT to be holy and pure according to God's standard.

We are holy now positionally. We are deemed holy because we are "In Christ."

"For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will -- to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves." (Ephesians 1:4-6)

We are sanctified and justified by Christ's finished work on the cross.

We are in the process of becoming holy experientially.

We are being changed day by day into Christ-likeness.

"May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify (hagiazō) you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it."

Holiness and our sexuality come together when we learn to control our bodies in a way that is holy and honorable and acceptable to the Lord. We are to be set apart to live the standards that God has set as holy and pure. God blesses sex within the confines of marriage with our chosen spouse. That is the standard that is holy and blameless before Him.

What does it mean to be "sanctified"?

Being sanctified means to be "cut off from the world - separated from the worldly society - a part of God's holy nation."

In what sense are we "holy" now?

When we turn our lives over to Jesus, He then possess us and we are declared righteous and holy. The blood of Jesus makes us clean, spiritually, and sets us apart from worldly desires.

In what sense are we in the process of becoming "holy"?

We are like a big rock that a sculptor takes his chisel to and makes it into a beautiful piece of art. As we experience life, Jesus helps us "cut off" all the unnecessary parts of our life to become more holy.

What does holiness have to do with "sexuality"?

Paul instructed the church at Thessalonica to have bodily control and not to let their bodies run loose in immoral things. Holiness means to separate their total life from the sexual attitudes of their society.

Q2. (1 Thessalonians 4:3-4)

What does it mean to be "sanctified"?

In what sense are we "holy" now?

In what sense are we in the process of becoming "holy"?

What does holiness have to do with our sexuality?

Sanctification is the on-going process of our growth in likeness to Jesus Christ. We were sanctified, the process started, when we were born again. We terminated our love for sin and our lives were no longer ruled by sin. This is all made possible by the Holy Spirit taking over and helping us. The moment we repented and accepted Jesus as our Lord and Saviour we became new creatures – we are positionally made holy, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Corinthians 5:17. About our sexuality; heterosexual and monogamous marriage is the only context in which God approves of a sexual relationship.

To be sanctified means becoming pure and holy in by the renewal of our minds by the word of God and cleansed by his blood. Leaving the former ways of life and putting on the new self dying to the flesh and living a holy life before god.

We are holy because the Spirit of God is dwelling in us and our bodies have become the temples of the Holy spirit when we are born again in Him.

We are in the process of becoming holy because day by day we are growing and constantly renewing our lives by His word.

Holiness keeps us from impure motives and desires.. Keeps us from the sin of **** and every other sin relating to our sexuality.

Q2. What does it mean to be "sanctified"?

A. Sanctified means made holy; Set apart for sacred services.

Q. In what sense are we "holy"?

A. According to the lesson, we are "in Christ," because we are part of Christ. Colossians 1:22 says " But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight without blemish and free from accusation".

Q. In what sense are we in the process of becoming "holy"?

A. According to 2 Cor 3:18, "And we all who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory are being transformed into His image with ever increasing glory which comes from The Lord, who is Spirit.

We strive to be holy every day. Heb 12:14, "Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see The Lord.

Q. What does holiness have to do with our sexuality?

A. It is God's will that we do not take part in sexual immorality. Sex was invented by God for a husband and wife to enjoy each other and to be fruitful and multiply. Anything outside of that is not holy. God wants us to control our body in a way that is holy and honorable. He has given us His Holy Spirit to help us.

Q2. (1 Thessalonians 4:3-4) What does it mean to be “sanctified”?

Sanctified means that I am consecrated and separated, set apart for pure and holy living for God's use.

In what sense are we “holy” now?

When I received Jesus as my Lord and savior, the great exchange took place: He took my sin and corrupt flesh, and He clothed me in His Righteousness. When the Father looks at me now, He sees Jesus in me rather than my fallen nature.

In what sense are we in the process of becoming “holy”?

Becoming Holy is the process of "working (walking) out our salvation". I love the example in Ben Patterson's book "Why is it taking me so long to get better?". He likens Salvation as when the U.S. Marines landed on a shore during the war. They immediately wired the ship "The island is secure", though they had no more than a toe hold. Their role was then to take the rest of the island from the enemies control, step by step. After our salvation, the Holy Spirit works with us and In us to renew our minds, teach and train us in holy living....to keep taking "ground" from the enemy!

What does holiness have to do with our sexuality?

Being set apart involves our entire being...including our sexuality. Sex outside of marriage is fornication if single, and adultery, if married. Both are the antithesis of holiness.

To be sanctified is to be made holy for relationship with our holy father in Heaven.

This is done through first, by justification by the Lord Jesus when we put our faith him for the forgiveness of our sins and then ondly, by our determination and effort to keep ourselves holy by shunning all acts of immorality.

Q2. (1 Thessalonians 4:3-4) What does it mean to be "sanctified"? In what sense are we "holy" now? In what sense are we in the process of becoming "holy"? What does holiness have to do with our sexuality?

Ans. To be sanctified means to be set apart, preserved and holy. We are holy through Jesus Christ. “Be holy for I am holy”. As we continue to grow in Christ we are becoming more like him. Our sexuality has to do with holiness because being in Jesus Christ reminds us not to do as the world do but to follow the Word of God in sexual conduct.

Paul is urging the folks to please God in their endeavors. The guideline He gives is only to help them gain the pure life that God wants everyone to enjoy. Keep ourselves from sexual promiscuity is an obedience that we can do to show our love not only to ourselves and others but our love towards God and His love towards us. Learn to appreciate and give dignity to our body, not abusing it, as is so common among those who know nothing of God. Don't run roughshod over the concerns of our brothers and sisters. God will take care of His own.

Paul is admonishing that folks manage their sexual impulses in a holy and honorable manner. The Bible does after all speak of not giving into lustful desires like pagans who don’t know God.

Q2. (1 Thessalonians 4:3-4) What does it mean to be "sanctified"? In what sense are we "holy" now? In what sense are we in the process of becoming "holy"? What does holiness have to do with our sexuality?

Hebrews 4:2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

The Bible says, ‘But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. This is our first step towards sanctification is to believe that God is Who He says that He is and that He is’.

Paul reminds these folks that he has warned them about these things before. God hasn't invited us into a disorderly, unkempt life but into something holy and beautiful—as beautiful on the inside as the outside. If they or even us disregard Paul’s advice, we would not be offending our neighbors; we would be offending and rejecting God‘s council, and it is He who has supplied us with the gift of His Holy Spirit. If we do not mix our faith with what we have heard, none of it will profit us and sanctification goes out the window.

Paul is admonishing that folks manage their sexual impulses in a holy and honorable manner. The Bible does after all speak of not giving into lustful desires like pagans who don’t know God. Holiness and righteous living is what sets us apart for the glory of God in that we do not go whoring with other gods, keeping ourselves pure, awaiting for the marriage supper of the Lamb of God.
