  1. Q1. In Romans 8:14-21, 28, how many times is the idea of being sons and daughters of God alluded to? What are the promises made to these sons and daughters? What do we learn about our future and our role in the future of all creation? In Dutch translation, five times. Full rights of natural children, for example the inheritance. Our future will be wonderful because then we will have the full inheritance: heaven.
  2. Because it was the sacrifice for our sins. It didn't contain sin by itself. Therefore this was possible.
  3. Jesus can be in our head but not in our heart. Then we know about Him without feeling inner peace in Him. Personal assurance makes it easier to fight the devil. Then we can tell him with confidence to back off. Praying?
  4. Q5. (Romans 8:13-14) What does it mean to "mortify" or "put to death" the deeds of the body by the Spirit? What would it look like to watch a person do this? What does it mean to be "led" by the Spirit? What does this look like in actual practice? How do "putting to death" and being "led" by the Spirit fit together? How much of this is the Spirit and how much is us? To 'mortify' means that we completely eliminate the deeds of the body. This means that if our flesh wants us to do something, we have to resist if it's not according to God's will. To be led by the Spirit means that we think about what the Bible says and then we obey that. The guidance of the Spirit is the only way we can resist sin. I don't know the ratio. To me, it doesn't make sense to guess.
  5. We can't help being sinners. We can't avoid to sin every now and then. This doesn't mean that we have to sin. If I feel like doing something bad, I don't have to give in. If you think the enemy is stronger, you don't fight him with all power. Satan is just one of those enemies. If we believe Jesus will beat him, we don't have to be afraid. Then we don't have to give in.
  6. I think I would feel myself a part of Christ. To feel makes to know more strong, I guess
  7. When you eat something, it becomes a part of you. I really don't understand how it makes somebody part of the food.
  8. All Christians have the Spirit inside. However, not all Christians feel Him completely or have much of His gifts. We have to chase the Spirit.
  9. Normally our mind is focused on wordly things - like money and sex. When our mind is set on the things of the Spirit, we think about good things. We know a big part by reading the Bible. We also need the Spirit - the third part of the trinity - to assist us. Many bad thinking is habit. Another part is our own mistake, like watching indecent TV programs. If we were dependent on our own free will, we would always fail.
  10. It means that we share something (i.e. Jesus) in common with other people. If we participate in the blood of Christ, we're part of His church.
  11. We can't obey the law. The only way to get saved is the unconditional grace of Jesus.
  12. We have to choose between A. Jesus and B. something else, like the world/a false god/money/... In this case, demons are the false gods of the greek and the romans. For us it can also be money or **** - whatever might be more important to us then God. The people in Corinth would have an easier life on earth if they would be following the false gods. Therefore they were in danger of following those gods and by this leaving the true God.
  13. Purpose: to remember the exodus from Egypt. If we don't repeat, we forget. That God is God and that He's done miracles. Then they would have forgotte it or maybe they would have thought it was just some story.

  15. Flesh can mean: - the material we’re made off - the human body - a human being - the rebellious human nature In these verses, Paul means the rebellious human nature: what we want ourselves. Most times, this is the opposite of what God wants.
  16. Sadly, that often happens. Jesus commands its repetition because we people tend to forget.
  17. That Jesus loved us so much He even died for us, that we're connected to Him and that He'll take care.
  18. Jesus took the bread. This one is obvious. Then He gave thanks. Here He's praying. Then He gave thanks again. Here He's thanking. Then He brake the bread. That means that they didn't had to bite in a whole bread. Then He gave the bread and the disciples took the bread. This is about giving and accepting. Then the disciples ate the bread. And drank the wine.
  19. Q5. Summarize the lessons of this chapter. 1. What are the churches criticized for? giving up first love, compromise with the world, apathy 2. What are they praised for? resistance to false teachers, not giving up, love, being faithful 3. How should these observations shape the twenty-first century Church? The lessons haven
  20. People want everything on a silver platter. When you have to do something yourself, all effort will be too much if you don
