Q3. Anointing and Spirit

Recommended Posts

What is the significance of Samuel anointing David?

For 2 reasons. It is an outward appearance to the Jewish people that God has chosen David to proceed Saul as King. It seems as if Saul and probably God did not want the people to know that Saul was going to loose his kingship. There were things that needed to be done and David needed to grow up. Telling the people that it was coming could have been disaterous. Secondly, when Samuel anointed David the Holy Spirit entered David and mentally, spiritually prepared David to be King.

It set David apart for future kingship. The H.S. coming on David gave him God's power. It gave him discernment to act in a godly way. In being led by God, he chose right attitudes, actions. We have no power apart from Him.

The significance of Samuel anointing David is that it designates David as the king-to-be. The anointing also symbolizes that David is God's choice to be the next King of Israel.

The significance of the Holy Spirit coming upon David is to empower and anoint him.

How is the Holy Spirit upon us vital for our own success as disciples? Without the Spirit's anointing, then our works for the Lord will be done in the flesh. We come to depend our own power rather than God's power. <_<

Q3. (1 Samuel 1:13) What is the significance of Samuel anointing David? What is the significance of the Holy Spirit coming upon David? How does this explain his success? How is the Holy Spirit upon us vital for our own success as disciples?

Samuel did not anoint David as act of his own will but as of God's will, by anointing David Samuel was declaring David as king of Israel. When the Holy Spirit comes upon David is confirming or sealing the anointing that had just taken place. David's success comes as a result of the empowerment of the Holy Spirit in his life, and also as a result of his relationship with God, by placing God first in His life he was able to obtain the victory.

The Holy Spirit is protecting us, guiding us, as a result of not belonging to the enemy anymore but to God, the Holy Spirit lives within us.

(1 Samuel 1:13) What is the significance of Samuel anointing David? What is the significance of the Holy Spirit coming upon David? How does this explain his success? How is the Holy Spirit upon us vital for our own success as disciples?

a. David's anointing by Samuel signifies God's choice of the future King of Israel, but it is much more important

Spiritually.

b. When the Holy Spirit came upon David it empowered him, now he becomes the shepherd of a nation as king, all

by the power of the Holy Spirit who came upon him.

c. Anytime God leads you, and you follow and obey Him you will profit in God. You will reap the rewards God has

set for you.

d. When you follow God and accept the Holy Spirit in you, then you will have the success in life God wants for you.

For without God you are nothing.

Anointing represents the coming of the Holy Spirit and the presence of His power. When Samuel anointed David at the direction of Yahweh, it signified that David had been set apart and sealed by God for the special purpose of leading God’s people as their king [representing God to the people by that leadership].

Every success David had was because of the leading and empowerment of the Spirit that rested upon him. The difference between Saul and David was that David sought to obey God. He fell into grievous sin at times, but always repented and returned to God when he realized what he had done. He listened with his heart and responded to the truth with his own spirit. This pictures the importance of our reliance on the Spirit today, with the primary difference being that the Spirit is actually living within us now rather than resting upon us.

Samuel anoints David indicating to us that he is the chosen one by God. It is as though God wants to physically show us who he has chosen and that he is not ashamed of him. This shows us that God will never deny us as his children if we act according to His desires. The significance of the holy spirit coming upon David from that day on is to ascertain that he will be lead by the Holy Spirit in all he will do.

The significance is that through the anointing of David, the Holy Spirit was poured into him. The significance of the Holy Spirit upon David is that David now had the living God inside him much like we, as believers, in a post Jesus (AD) period have the living God residing within us. Without God residing within us we are powerless to live a live apart from our flesh.

David’s anointing is significant both spiritually and politically, politically because it designates David as the king-to-be and spiritually because when he is anointed the Holy Spirit comes upon him mightily and fills him with power. His anointing is also symbolic in that it shows that he is the chosen one.

When the Holy Spirit comes upon David it empowers him, he is able to do even great things than before he was anointed.

David’s success is due to the empowering of the Holy Spirit, He fills him with great power which enables him to do extra-ordinary things.

It’s through the power of the Holy Spirit that Christians are able to live a fruitful life. We are able to do what is required of us by the Lord.

(1 Samuel 1:13) What is the significance of Samuel anointing David? What is the significance of the Holy Spirit coming upon David? How does this explain his success? How is the Holy Spirit upon us vital for our own success as disciples?

Samuel's words and actions were important to the Jews because they understood he was a prophet of God.  So when they knew he had anointed David, this meant David was chosen by God to be a leader. Something unique must have happened at this time for there to be recognition of a Spirit upon David.  Because of the Holy Spirit's anointing, David would be capable of doing the job God had called him to do.  In addition to the power of the Holy Spirit in him, his devotion and obedience to God made him a successful leader.  This is also true for us today as believers.  When we accept Jesus as our Savior, we are given the Holy Spirit to empower us to live lives for Him.  We'll be successful if we rely on the Holy Spirit to lead us, if we listen to God and obey Him.

Significance of Samuel anointing David: To show that David was God's chosen one. Chosen for the mission that God had set for him.

Significance of the Holy Spirit coming down on David: To empower David with Divine help/ whatever he will need to do his God ordained mission

How does this explain his success: It shows that when you have the Gift of the Holy Spirit, there's nothing you can't do but it also shows us that when God calls you for a task, He will never leave you alone. Just like when He ascended to heaven, He said that he shall never leave his disciples alone but will leave them with the Holy Spirit.

How is it vital for our own success as disciples: It's vital in that It will help us go through any challenges we might face. It will help us in fulfilling our God ordained mission.

This really shows me the God that we have. His will shall never take us where His mercy shall never cover us. That's just beautiful.

We can do anything through Him that gives us strength.

How is the Holy Spirit upon us vital for our own success as disciples?

The Holy Spirit is, what I like to call, our "Savior map". The Holy Spirit is somewhat like a map written in and on your heart. He guides us, but only if we allow Him to. He says, "turn here child", or "keep straight, you're on the right path". He tells us when we embarking on a wrong turn and warns us that it's not the right way. We have to be completely open to the Holy Spirit or we are blindly guiding ourselves through life and missing what He has in mind for us to do.

Samuel anointed David at God's direction.  Not of his own volition.  He waited on God's approval and direction as to who to anoint.

The Holy Spirit came upon David powerfully at his anointing.  This is one of the few times in the OT where the Spirit is on someone.  It is significant because Jesus has not come yet and given believers the Spirit.

David's success is completely dependent on God and David's relationship with God.

The Holy Spirit is vital for us as believers in our daily walk.  We have to have it...even though for me, a lot of times, it hindsight.  I should have done this or said that.  I am working on hearing the Spirit first...not after I have said or done something.

Q3. (1 Samuel 1:13) What is the significance of Samuel anointing David? What is the significance of the Holy Spirit coming upon David? How does this explain his success? How is the Holy Spirit upon us vital for our own success as disciples?

The   anointing of David to be king indicates to David and to the family is there present that God has put his finger upon David to be a servant of the Lord in his service and doing his work. Much of the building off the kingdom of Israel is based upon the work that David did in uniting the two kingdoms and setting up a structure in which the theology off the one true God could be developed and expands.

The Holy Spirit came upon David and it would be through the power and the work of the Holy Spirit that David accomplished of the things that he was able to do.

Just as the Holy Spirit was vital to the success of David in developing his kingdom so also the Holy Spirit must descend upon us so that we also can serve the Lord as being annointed in Christ.

Q3. (1 Samuel 1:13)

Samuel anointing David was an outward sign to the people who witnessed it that the lord has chosen David. In the anointing, God causes the Holy Spirit to come upon David.
When the holy spirt came upon David, david had a supernatural power to defeat the phillistines, and strength to persevere through all the trials that were to come to him
Without the power of God, David wouldn't have had success defeating the phillistines. It was the Holy Spirit that won the battle through David.
As a disciple, we receive power through the Holy Spirit, and it's through abiding in the spirit and seeking to live our lives full of the Spirit and constantly relying on him for power and strength that we can be effective disciples that bring glory to God during our time on earth! We have power to defeat whatever "giants" are in our life! Whether that be a sin struggle, the enemies attacks, etc.

Q3. (1 Samuel 16:13) What is the significance of Samuel anointing David?  It signifies God's approval, and spiritually, to sanctify and empowered him for service . Also it designates him politically as the soon to be king.

What is the significance of the Holy Spirit coming upon David? Empowerment to do what God has called him to do. He is to be an effective and efficient leader depending on God's leading.

How does this explain his success? He carried the presence of the Lord, which granted him wisdom, and understanding, counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. He depended on God for his decisions and judgement before making pursuits (Proverbs 3:5-6). He sought God after his failures and weaknesses. a man after God's own heart. He was quick to repent.

How is the Holy Spirit upon us vital for our own success as disciples?  The Holy Spirit let us be bold no more a slave to fear, the Holy Spirit help us in time of our weaknesses, help us discern,  teaches us, help us to walk righteously broke the yoke of bondage. Without Him, we can do nothing.

Samuel was a well known priest and prophet in his time. Anything he said was directly attributed to the Lord. When he anointed David it was made "official" that God had chosen David as the next king. The Holy Sprit in the O.T. only came for a specific reason, season and purpose.  In David case it was to fortify his relationship with the Lord and lead him in becoming a great king with a eternal promise that his bloodline would save all mankind.  His success was directed by his willingness to be obedient to the Law of Moses and his loving the Lord with all his heart. The gift of the Holy Sprit to all believers leads us in all matters of our heart and soul.

Q3. (1 Samuel 1:13) What is the significance of Samuel anointing David? What is the significance of the Holy Spirit coming upon David? How does this explain his success? How is the Holy Spirit upon us vital for our own success as disciples?

1 Samuel 16:13b "And the spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward". The significance of Samuel anointing David was far more than symbolic. It was an instruction made by God. No doubt the spirit of the Lord rushing upon David would have been witnessed by others as well as been experienced by David. I think this reality would have helped him to identify and have a relationship with the spirit throughout the rest of his life, thus enabling his many successes, pulling him through his many darkened human times of sin, and bolstering his desire for obedience and service to God.

In exactly the same way we have the holy spirit living with us and we should always seek to have a closer instantaneous relationship with the holy spirit who is miraculously God and our advocate to God as we are transformed to me more like Christ.
